Book of Nails is something I've been wanting to read for a long while. I'd love to get the chance to explore a little more of Era 2 apart from Wax and Wayne. And the few parts of Nicki Savage's adventures we've been able to see in the Broadsheets had me hooked. Hope it released sometime this year or the next. Also really want the Dark Side Taldain books, its practically Khriss's origin story and I'd love to know more about it, as well as more about Star Marks.

A Roshar without the Everstorm, and Odium's backup plans
JustQuestin2004 replied to Cocoa's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe the Singers being in Slaveform and lacking their Connection and Identity made it more difficult or impossible for Fused to possess them? Rayse wanted them back to normal, and he doesn't do anything out the goodness of his heart. I guess that Rayse also wanted to take the chance to stack the deck in his favor some more? Let the Alethi invade and kill the Listeners because he was banking on them pulling the Everstorm to kickstart the rest of the conflict? It explains why he couldn't just grab some Parshmen, force them into Stormform somewhere and use them to call the Everstorm without anyone knowing or having a chance to stop it, because he literally couldn't because the Listeners were the only Singers left that could change Forms. -
Could be that Aluminum technically does steal powers, but since Aluminum is an Investiture Sink, the stolen chunk of the soul gets sent straight to the Spiritual Realm instead of remaining in the spike. Like how burning aluminum sends all metals in your system straight to the Spiritual Realm with no effect.

Probably wasn't on Ambition's side, considering she's dead and every other Shard who knew her seems to be glad about it. Maybe she got involved because of how destructive the battle was? They were literally tearing solar systems apart from the sounds of it, it would be quite a merciful act to help put a stop to the fighting before even more of the Cosmere was destroyed.
-
Mercy worries me, she was there and probably got a front row seat to whatever Odium did.
-
I thought it said that he inverted Ambition's Intent. Reading back on it, it really does say that the Intent was removed, and the pieces of the power itself was Inverted into Negative Investiture. We know that Investiture can become 'Unkeyed', even raw power like Stormlight can be 'stripped of Identity' in some way by the Ghostbloods. So maybe this is that on an astronomical scale? Odium found a way to make even the entire Investiture of a Shard to become Unkeyed? As well as making it Negative, probably to help better insure no one can pick it up since trying would kill them.
-
I hear he also is a big fan of some strange kind of acupuncture. Speaking of which, if you dipped a Hemalurgic Spike into Ruin's Perpencidularity, do you think the Hemalurgic Charge would be preserved?

Something that was pointed out by a fellow reader that I didn't realize upon my first reading is this quote during the Epilogue of Isles of the Emberdark: This, is really something. Something that so far has been mostly overlooked. Because I think we've seen the effects of this exact thing multiple times across the Cosmere. I'll start from world to world. -Cultivation's Perpendicularity in the Horneater Peaks, and we know that certain people from their, known as the 'Guardians of the Pool' are 'Sighted'. Gifted with the ability to see Spren, even if they don't want to be seen. This ability may be from their distant Singer Ancestry, but since only the 'Guardians' seem to have this ability, it is likely that the Perpendicularity is what brings this ability out. -Odium's Perpendicularity in the Shattered Plains, its what allows Chasmfiends to grow so large and why they always migrate their in order to pupate. What effects this has on the people living there is unknown, both on humans and Singers, but perhaps we'll see more in the Back Half. -On Scadrial, the amount of Investiture in bloodlines is what determines if a person has magic or not. I theorize that the effects of the Well of Ascension, is that the people in Luthadel have more likelihood of becoming Allomancers, even if they're too far removed from the Nobility lines, probably only a small boost to the odds. And maybe since the pool isn't always full this effect isn't always active, but I do think this could be the case. -The effects that Ruin's pool may have had on people, well I don't know. Most Skaa didn't live there for long enough for any effects to be immidiatly obvious, though Kelsier's soul did have stronger ties to Ruin than Preservation, and while that may just be from his more ruthless personality, I can only wonder if such a broken soul Snapping so close to such a large amount of Ruin's power could have had effects on him. -Harmony's Perpendicularity, even if we've never seen it, perhaps people that live close to it may have a greater chance of becoming Feruchemists? That sure would be handy for a civilization that relies on Feruchemy just to survive, wouldn't you say? -We know that Endowment's Perpendicularity causes certain very colorful flowers to bloom near Hallandren, which is how they became so rich through dye trading. We know that the individual strengths of one's Breath can vary to certain extents, so perhaps people living in Hallandren have better quality Breaths than people much further away? Making it easier to gain Heightenings perhaps? -Devotion's Perpendicularity, besides being used to 'kill' Elantrians, is unclear. But perhaps, it is the reason why AonDor is so strangely freeform compared to other Invested Arts? Not in power, we already know why that is, but in why Elantrians can simply draw upon the air itself instead of needing bones, stamps or blood? I dunno, maybe Seons emerge from the pool when they're created? But either way, this is quite the discovery. Perpendicularities can possibly grant abilities to people who live close enough, and that proximity can seem to vary from "Swimming in it" with the Sighted, to "Be in the same Archipelago as it".

Definitely, over 300 years passed between her appearance in Secret History and Bands of Mourning, yet she doesn't seem 30 years older. Same goes for the trio of 17 Sharders trying to find Hoid in Stormlight. I imagine that even with massive advances in Medallion technology, which we are definitely not privy too since it would spoil Era 3 and 4, Medallions still have some limits like "No Four Powers" or something like that. I think that any Invested Art that has universal usage would be quite the rarity and incredibly useful to anyone in the Cosmere. Especially with such loose restrictions, you just need an Aviar to willingly make a Bond with you to get powers and can even Bond multiple at a time. No Oaths needed, no special bloodlines or country Connections, just a little bird taming. Well, he is implied to be a Tenth Heightening Awakener. So, you could have Breaths to spare, with Mental Commands he might not even need to touch you or say anything to transfer Breaths. If 50 Breaths give an extra decade of life, then mathematically (Assuming the average lifespan is around 80), he'd just need to give 400 of his supposedly 50,000 Breaths to double a person's lifespan. Unless of course there's something else at play here, which there very well could be, because Dragons are awesome like that. I imagine that after Retribution Ascended, that some of the Shards became at least a little more proactive when it comes to dealing with threats to their turf. Which Autonomy would count as. I wonder if that means Aviar can gain other Invested abilities from their partners, like Surges. Wait a minute... Could Lift's Chicken gain Abrasion and Progression?! Is this foreshadowing!? They mention later that they have Feruchemical healing devices. Chances are that either Dajer's self-perception keeps him from healing, or warfare in the future involves ways to deal unhealable damage. Would make sense since the Scadrians would be fighting Surgebinders who have ridiculous healing factors at a minimum, and the Rosharans would probably also start using those. It was theorized by Wax that the Malwish couldn't create Medallions that granted Allomancy, or even ones that gave Feruchemical pewter or zinc, but this was before they conned the Bands of Mourning out of the North's hands, as in the only known Nicrosilmind that can give all the above. So chances are the Malwish could have used the Bands to create Allomancy Medallions. But also probably an exaggeration to some extent, I highly doubt any society would be cool with letting irresponsible children run amuck with magitech that lets them push metal around and fly, they'd either get themselves killed or become a very annoying nuisance. I think a big part of it is that you'd need to extend the 'Mind Shielding' aspect to all within its range, not just to one target. WOB states that its possible but extremely difficult for a Smoker to shield the minds of others from Emotional Allomancy. I imagine its just as difficult as a Seeker sensing Feruchemy and needs some unrevealed 'tweak' to work. They also state there are ways 'around' the permission of Prime Aethers. But we barely know the basics on how Aetherbound work so I have no idea on what this could mean. It also seems like the Ghostbloods don't work alongside the Malwish Empire, since they only recently learned about Aviar being real and where to get them when the Ghostbloods have already been using them for years. Makes sense since Kelsier has a thing against 'Empires', and the aristocracy in general, so I doubt that the Malwish's current regime has the support of their 'Sovereign'. Maybe because its very renewable? More renewable than fossil fuels at least. And with a world like Lumar they don't even need permission from Primal Aethers to get it. Interesting, so if people back in the old days lived near the Well of Ascension they'd be more likely to be born with Allomancy perhaps? It would even make sense since it was hidden under Luthadel and there were quite a number of Allomancers living there, so maybe that might correlate? If people lived near Harmony's perpendicularity would they be more likely to gain Feruchemy? Better quality Breaths from living near Endowment's? Maybe the other step to all this could be permission from the Shard?

Here's a few more:

I find it interesting that Dajer has that throat injury, but also mentioned that they had 'Feruchemical Healing Devices' later on. So maybe the battle was so traumatizing, that he internalized the wounds and the Self-Perception limit prevented healing? So, the Malwish don't have the ability to heal those kinds of wounds through Identity hacks even in Space Age? Also, I find the implication that the Rosharan's are now willing to intentionally pull an Ashyn just to win a battle to be very concerning. Sounds like something a certain newly Ascended double god would do. So chances are, that this could mean that even after Stormlight 10 (which probably takes place well before any of the Secret Projects) that Taravangian is still kicking around, causing problems and being in charge of a large enough army to contend with the Malwish Empire. Though this is all just conjecture and extrapolation.

Binded Ones Their Surge is augmented directly by Retribution, giving them the power of Spiritual Adhesion. They possess half of the power of a Bondsmith, the ability to create Bonds. This allows them to pull off all kinds of things, Connect to lands to understand the language, forcibly form Bonds with less mindful Spren that won't immediately try to break said bond (Lesser Spren) to utilize them in some fashion, be it by using them as spies or by materializing them as tools like more breakable and smaller Shardblades? Due to a lack of a Godspren they won't be able to pull of crazier Bondsmithing like forming a Perpendicularity. And without Spiritual Tension, they lack the ability to manipulate pre-existing Bonds and can only create new ones. Also, as they are a new Brand of Fused, they do not have the same level of Finesse and Savantism that the other Brands of Fused have, experimenting with their abilities will be their most paramount goal. Most other Fused won't look upon them favorably, due to a combination of the dislike of new 'upstarts' and fear of the new replacing the old, as well as the belief among some Fused of Adhesion not being a 'True' Surge. Though the fear of Retribution from... Retribution... will keep these impulses in check for the most part.

Hemalurgy and Bloodborne Diseases
JustQuestin2004 replied to Qianweilian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Being more Invested provides more resistance against diseases in general, this is prominetly shown in the Heightening's provided by Breath, but also shown in the people of Roshar, even those who lack powers tend to be healthier than they should be due to living on such a highly Invested World. So I'd say it depends on just how far one is willing to go, Inquisitors are very much more Invested than the average person and tend to have a spike that provides healing through Gold Feruchemy. Not to mention that Koloss are able to survive even as Elders, when most of their skin is torn off by their enlarged muscles, and yet its never been said that they suffer from infections from all their torn skin. Those guys eat ash for goodness sakes. To put it short, Hemalurgy is wack yo. Though it would be pure karma if the Steel Inquisitors and the Spiked members of the Set did suffer from this. -
Well, we still haven't seen what exactly the other Attribute Spikes do to normal humans besides Iron Spikes turning people into Koloss... Plus, we do know that Snapping, while changed by Harmony, is still a thing in some capacity... And we know that the Ghostbloods now know its possible to use Hemalurgy to use normal people's souls to make Allomancers from the Set, and Kelsier has already stated that he'd be fine with using Hemalurgy on people who are 'the strict opposite of innocent'... And if that particular secret got leaked to, say, the Malwish, I'm sure they'd be just fine sacrificing their own people, probably those second-class citizens called the Blanks, to get more Metalborn. Yeah, there's a guarantee that we'll be seeing some screwed up things done with Hemalurgy in Era 3.

Observations of the Secrets of the Reshi Isles

Fair enough, I just prefer for what's in the books to take precedence over WOB's, they're only semi-canon until fully confirmed in the books in my eyes. -
Observations of the Secrets of the Reshi Isles
JustQuestin2004 replied to Frustration's topic in Stormlight Archive
But if that's the case, then why does Axies, the guy who has spent literal millennia studying Spren, think that they have a Spren in their massive Gemhearts? The, in his own words 'Soul of their god'. Asking about it got Axies strung up, though that's probably more because he's an Aimian. -
Observations of the Secrets of the Reshi Isles
JustQuestin2004 replied to Frustration's topic in Stormlight Archive
Axie's seems to believe that the cause must be from whatever Spren that they Bond with. And that these Spren must be 'spectacular' compared to the other kinds of Spren that bond with other Greatshells. So, they need to be quite powerful, likely much more so than even the Mandras from Aimia. And they aren't a Unique Spren since an entire species bonds with them. Maybe it could be the Stormstriders? The very large Spren that walk in the Highstorm that have been seen intermittently throughout the books? With how large they are and the fact that they existed entirely within what was once the main source of Investiture on Roshar, they must have plenty of Investiture in them. Possibly enough to allow for the existence of ridiculously large Greatshells like the Tai-Na? -
So, I had been waiting for the Short Story of Elsecaller to come out for quite a while, and it has but only in print instead of also an Ebook release. I prefer Ebooks nowadays, so it's rather unfortunate for me, so I now need to ask my question to the people on this site. My question is thus, is there any indication in Elsecaller on whether Jasnah has her Shardplate or not? Any hints in the wording whatsoever? Just want to know since I've been outlining a fanfic about Stormlight for the longest time, and Jasnah plays a significant role. And it starts during the first book.

Reluur's spikes and contemplations about Hemalurgy
JustQuestin2004 replied to Frustration's topic in Mistborn
I'd like to bring your attention to this WOB. I'd like to take a wild guess at what a Pewter Blessing would do. It would grant Health to a Kandra. I say this entirely because of the irony, because back when Mistborn had first come out, it was thought that pewter spikes stole Feruchemical Gold, which granted the Steel Inquisitor's their 'Healing Spike'. In this case, a pewter Blessing would be a more mild but constant effect, similar to what Miles Hundredlives experienced just from tapping some health without having any injuries to heal. It would greatly increase a Kandra's ability to recover from exhaustion and injury to the same level, perhaps greater, than a Pewterarm, though nowhere near what a Bloodmaker could do. It would synergize well with a Kandra's ridiculous levels of toughness. Some ideas I have for other metals if you care to read. -
We've gotten some WOBs on how a Leecher affects other Invested Arts, and they also have a very similar effect to Larkins and we know how those work for Stormlight. So it isn't too hard to extrapolate. And I dunno, the wording on the WOB about Aluminum Grenades just seemed pretty specific, but then again those are only sorta canon until something about it is brought up for or against it in the books, so who knows? Still, if the External and Internal Enhancement metals all did the exact same things when used in Allomantic Grenades, that'd be a little boring wouldn't it?

I'm pretty sure that an A-Aluminum Grenade is more about prevention of use than outright nullification like Leechers. So maybe if used on Surgebinders, it might prevent them from using Surges but not healing with Stormlight that they already have in their bodies maybe?

Of course Aluminum Gnats will be useful, when Allomantic Grenades become more mainstream Ghants will have a way to leverage their powers in an external manner like Marasi did with her Slow Bubbles. WOB states that an Allomantic Grenade charged with A-Aluminum will create an 'Allomantic Deadzone' where no one can use Allomancy. In fact, that's perhaps the best guess I have on why the Bands of Mourning were 'Drained' during TLM, the Malwish used one of these to make everyone in that room incapable of using Allomancy, and presumably from using Feruchemy and cutting off the Band's Unsealed Nicrosilminds, thus making it appear that they had been drained into a useless hunk of metal, when actuality the Malwish just pulled the wool over the Northen Barbarian's eyes with their more advanced Magitech.

Could be a plotline where an ambitious Fused ends up discovering Shalash's obsession and tries to set a trap with an old statue from a previous Desolation. Maybe even give this OC Fused some backstory with Shalash, maybe something along the lines of some old beauty contest she lost to Shalash thousands of years ago before the first Desolation and became a Fused entirely because of that petty grudge and wants Shalash herself to be permanently disfigured? I dunno, just spitballing.
-
Not quite, he wasn't leeching Stormlight out of their bodies, he was beating them handily in a tug-of-war of pulling stormlight out of spheres. Before that point, we'd never seen what happened if two Surgebinders tried getting Light out of the same gem at the same time, now we do and it turns out that higher Oathed Surgebinders have 'priority' and can override lesser Oathed Surgebinders attempts to breathe in Stormlight. Very interesting that. A skill/debuff denoting their madness, tied to whatever their obsession is. Nale is incapable of flat-out breaking the law, Shalash has a need to deface art of herself, etc. Could be their main weakness, allowing players a fighting chance against them if they can figure it out. Like quoting laws at Nale like you're supposed to in the Stonewalker Campaign or playing 'fetch your fanart' with Shalash to get her off your back for a minute.
