I've always assumed that the guy hovering is either a Windrunner or a Skybreaker training a new Radiant... a hold over of training manuals from before the Recreance. I could be very wrong though!

I like the idea, but I too think that wont' end up being the case. The Lightweaver oaths after the first all (so far) seem to be pointed towards self-awareness and discovery, not having to do with apportioning blame or forgiveness, I'd expect that more from an Edgedancer with their concern for others well being. I'd expect her next oath to have something to do with her blending of identities or realization of the Truth that Veil is the real person and Shallan is just another illusion that she weaves... or something like that. Doesn't she still have 2 more oaths possible as each order was supposed to speak 5 Oaths right? The First Ideal, the truth about her Father and Mother... am I missing one?

Are We Sure the Pool is a Shardpool?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Radiant Returned's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
The very fact that Hoid used it to transit to the Cognitive Realm means that it is a shardpool. A Perpendicularity as they called it in Secret History... That allows crossing the borders -
A Lightweaver with perfect color and pitch recognition from Breaths... Even more realistic illusions! Gold Ferring with access to storm light = health compounding lite + awesome surge abilities!

Lift Stormlight Novella for Arcanum Unbounded Is Complete (Updated)
Green Hoodie Mistborn commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
This is one of those publishing thing that makes me feel foolish for buying short story collections that had other authors stories in them that I wasn't interested in, especially since I need to buy this one to get the awesome Lift novella...- 20 comments

What are the Skaze?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I would say a few things. 1. The assumption that they are Splinters if Dominion can be inferred even if we don't have a specific WoB... "They are evil Seons"... Seons are splinters of Devotion, Skaze are "related to Skai", they are involved in Fjordell politics which is all about Dominion... To me that is fait accompli that they are splinters of Dominion 2. I'd be hugely surprised if the script floating in their haze wasn't ancient Fjordell just like on the bones of the Drethi monks. We have WoB that the Dor on Sel is accessed through the actual words/scripts and just a like Seons have Ains floating in their middle, I'd bet the script on Skaze are Fjordell. -
The Problem with Sanderson's writings
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Young Bard's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It is an interesting question/discussion. Each side has a point of view as has been pointed out before. Ultimately Odium is the villain of the SA, as Ruin was for Mistborn Era 1, and Autonomy for Era 2. Elantris and Warbreaker are the only ones where a Shard isn't the main villain of the story and Warbreaker is the hardest one for me. To me, many of the people in Sanderson's stories who drive conflict, are those who I wouldn't necessarily define as "villain", but more as antagonists. They oppose the heroes, they are catalyst for plot and narrative action, but do they truly fit the definition of "evil"? I don't know... Villain and Antagonist while sometimes the same characters are not the same word, they are not interchangeable. The one I can most easily define as a true evil villain was Dilaf from Elantris. TLR was probably evil, but by his actions millions or billions of people were alive that would not otherwise have been... Bluefingers? You call him villain, he calls himself freedom fighter for his people, to the victors go the labels I suppose. Sadaes? He is the epitome of his culture. They have reprehensible practices, but is he any more or less evil than a standard Feudal lord in pre-modern times, really? I'm not sure, were they evil or encultured to indifference and assured by the religious authorities of their time that they were in the right in their attitudes and actions? Mr. T/Amaram, all believe that they are doing what is necessary to save humanity, whatever the cost. If all of humanity was at risk, what would you be willing to do to save it if you had information you thought would help, but that may cost some of those lives to save the rest, the remnant? Are they evil to do so? Paalm? The Set - they are probably true villains as they are all about their own power, prestige and rule. All in all, I find very few who I consider true villains. Evil in a fictional world is very relative and perspective based. Do Sadaes, Mr. T, Amaram, Bluefingers consider themselves evil villains? I doubt it. Opposing force? Sure, but I don't think any of them thinks of themselves or their actions as evil. Hrathen is someone who causes great evil in Dulakel and is redeemed by the end of that book. Was he a villain or just an antagonist? -
That is a mis-exaggeration of what I'm saying. I never disagreed that it wasn't difficult to figure out. My basic premise is different from yours. I assume that if he can use Stormlight to survive, then he's figured out how to do other things with it as well. It is a moot point however, as per WoB, you are correct and this should end the thread... So he should have any abilities associated with his 5th Heightening Divine Breath, but can't Awaken with Stormlight.
-
I realize that. Are you saying the feeding aspect of being a Returned/Awakener is easier because the "code" to use your term doesn't matter for the feeding aspect? Not sure I agree with that. As a Returned he has to feed on Breaths, the Nalthis "coded" form of Investiture. To feed on Stormlight, I'm sure he can't just consume it straight, but has to "re-code" it like he would for any other ability, so it takes him more Stormlight investiture to feed than Breath, but that is fine because Stormlight is so much more plentiful on Roshar, and more easily available, than Breaths on Nalthis. Ergo, he can do anything with Stormlight that he can do with Breaths. It may be difficult, but that doesn't mean he can't do so. EDIT: Here is the WoB you're thinking of I think... LINK That doesn't speak to the level or amount needed, just means it would be difficult. My interpretation is "difficult to figure out how", but once you do, not that hard...
-
Here, I think is the WoB you're talking about: To me that implies that Szeth isn't a good person since he doesn't feel sick. That aside, I think if we want to discuss Nightblood and it's implications on Roshar, we should probably move that to another thread (though I'm sure a thread like that already exists)... Back on topic, I'm sure that Zahel/Vasher can do anything with Stormlight that he could with Breaths. If he can translate it enough to feed on it, why wouldn't that translation be sufficient for anything else that Breath was useful for on Nalthis? It wouldn't make sense for me if he could use it for one thing, but nothing else.

That is Josh Hartnett, dunno, to me he seems too young/unweathered for my mental picture of Wax. He fits the cleaned up Elendel version I guess, but I also don't know if he have the emotional depth to show the horror and heartbreak of the opening scene as well as it deserves... My 2clips obviously...

Far and away for me is the scene when Bridge 4 charges to save Dalinar's army, exhausted stumbling Kaladin throws himself off the bridge and across the chasm, inhales Stormlight from the Parshendi beards and lands, saying the 2nd Windrunner Ideal. Stormlight explodes from him, knocking down the Parshendi and causing them to flee... I still get chills when I read that scene (seriously, I just read it, got chills).

Soulcast lavis tastes different
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Erinzard's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm sure you're right about the blood being indistinguishable, but it is also one of the pure Essences, which Jasnah (I think) tells us is the easiest thing to soulcast. Lavish being a complicated grain would be much harder to get right. Now, a Lightweaver may have more skill with Soulcasting due to the combination of surges, but right now Shallan herself doesn't seem too skilled...yet -
Best Twinborn Combinations (Excluding Compounding)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to DeadFencer's topic in Mistborn
How would you harness the Nicrosil once you tap your metalmind as a Twinborn to make it into Pewter rather than just raw Investiture? Can you convert burned Pewter into raw investiture with Nicrosil? I'm still very confused by the properties of Nicrosil...- 111 replies

Portrait of Adolin Kholin
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to grantmhansen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I always pictured him with hair just pushing the boundaries of what Dalinar allowed based on the codes, so as long as he could get it, but my mind tends to skip physical description stuff unless I force it to slow down and take note. Sometimes that misses key points, but that is what fan boards are for!- 16 replies

Leather-bound Edition of Elantris
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
It is a lot of $ for something that is going to sit on the shelf and look pretty, but... it is also a gorgeous book. Probably the best book I've ever owned from a stylistic and quality standpoint. I've paid over $100 for books in grad school that were like 150 pages and just canvas bound, I'd much rather drop that kind of $ on this book than one of those again! If you can afford it, I would highly recommend it. If you're on the fence from a $ perspective, I would recommend it. -
Fun Fact about The Dark One
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Young Bard's topic in General Brandon Discussion
He talks about The Dark One almost every year, looks like last year there was some good progress made, but he has no plans to release any time soon... at least that he's telling us about! http://brandonsanderson.com/state-of-the-sanderson-2015/ -
She started then, IMO, so that she could get Nightblood created, so that it could be used to kill Odium!

Welcome! An interesting theory and philosophy of the Shards. I'm not sure you can find enough correlation to really make it stick, but I like the way you think 16 Shards and 16 Metals is really I think coincidental, since the sacred number on Roshar is said to be 10 (10 Heralds, 10 Orders, 10 Kingdoms), and likely other Shards/planets have different numbers associated. Also - while the memory decay is a little weird compared to the rest of the powers, I'm pretty sure it only seems that way. Memories when we hold them in mind, naturally fade. Strength or Speed when tapped, are "used up" while tapping. I think for me the real oddity about Feruchemical copper is that you're storing something that isn't an attribute per se, but a collection of perception about an event or object. Keep your thoughts coming!

What's your choice: Feruchemy or Allomancy?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Oathbringer's topic in Mistborn
I'm with ChickenPlague - I'm too impatient to store attributes for Feruchemy, so full Mistborn for me. With maybe a couple of Feruchemically charged spikes... to get the compounding effects so I can be lazy AND have a full metalmind!
