"I appreciate the consideration," Amyra muttered, disappearing into the opposite direction. She had just put the boy at risk, again. She had one job as a Windrunner. To protect those who cannot protect themselves. And so far? She'd been failing. Failing miserably.

Amyra nodded curtly. "From the time I last saw him? Possibly. But everything is a risk here."

"Lower your voice," Amyra aggressively whispered to Sage. She looked around to see if anyone was near. "I can't tell you."

Amyra looked as if she was about to speak, then bit back her tongue, thinking better of it. "I..." She had to mislead them. That was the only way. Even if she was killed for it. "I did what was needed to be done," She said, quietly, "And I have no regrets." Perhaps lying was the only true way of protection. But then again, what she said wasn't really a lie, now, was it? She had done what she need to be done. But they just.... Didn't understand. So be it. People could be so narrow-minded. But this... This was someone she could save. So she pressed forwards, misleading them all. "It wasn't the child's fault," Amyra added, agreeing with Sage.

Amyra heard footsteps of someone approaching behind her. Of course. They were still after her. She spun around and summoned Aerie as her shardblade. She was wielding the blade in her left hand... A weakness, perhaps. But she held it up confidently, with a steady arm. "Sage," she spoke harshly, "Stand down. Everything may not be as it seems." She was on guard and defensive, staring into Sage's eyes. She had to be ready for any move. Any trick.

Amyra escaped through the chasms, her body racing to catch up with her even faster mind. Her thoughts were so mixed. No true answers. She just kept running through the labyrinth. Her arm was still in pain. She had no idea where she was going. Or how long she was going to survive. All she knew was she had to fight till the end. Her breath refused to fill her lungs. I still trust you, a voice said in her mind. A forgotten voice. A small voice. But such an important voice. Aerie- Amyra stopped in her tracks. Been a while, hasn't it? The voice seemed as if it was said through a sad smile. Yeah... You've killed two people. I have. Congrats. Thanks. There was a pause. She had missed Aerie's comforting sarcasm. I still believe in you, you know, Aerie said, trying to put in an effort. I... Thanks. Amyra, I need you to live. No promises. She took in a sharp breath, waiting for the response. ... No promises. Aerie agreed.

Amyra winced in pain as the sword sliced through her flesh, leaving a terrible gash all along her arm. Her right arm. The very arm she used to fight. To wield her sword. "I. Won't." Amyra manages to say, gritting her teeth through the pain. She gripped her sword tightly in her left hand, knuckles whitening, as she endured the pain from her right arm. Nothing could stop it. But she would survive. She had to survive. She had to be unstoppable. Unbreakable.

Amyra ducked immediately, her anger accelerating. She had no training for this moment. She had no lessons. But she felt it, in her soul. In her bones. She had to fight. She had to win. She had to kill. She wouldn't go down like this. But if she did, at least she would go down with honor. Honor. She scoffed.

Amyra had no where to go. No where to hide. No where to run from her problems, like she'd done countless times before. She only could confront them all, in a fit of rage, all charging at her from different directions. They echoed in her mind. What have you done? What have you done? What have you done? Well, she'd done her best. So she stood firm, and drew her shardblade. Aerie, she pleaded, I need you to forgive me.

This is the only way. It may not be right, but all sense of right and wrong has long since been obscured. That boy... He would drag her down. He would drag everyone down. He would drag himself down, if he could. But something about him... reminded her of home. No. I have to go through with this. I can't protect him. I can't protect anyone. This is the only way. She closes her eyes and slices the blade around, pointing the tip to his throat. But something about his squeal. His cry. She couldn't bring herself to do it. She wasn't a good Windrunner. But she wasn't a bad enough Windrunner to be a cold-blooded assassin. What was she? She leaned down and whispered something inaudible to Cassian, tears streaming down her cheeks. He nodded. She looked away, and slit his neck. What did you do? Aerie's voice echoed in her mind, gone from all traces of sarcasm. True horror. True shock. What had she become? Before she ran off to the shadows of the chasms, she paused to toss back a sunflower from her pocket. There was something of a bitter, knowing smile before she escaped, leaving the body of the boy.

And there she was. With this child, asking her for help. This helpless child. This terrified child. What help could she provide? No. He couldn't experience the horrors of the game. He would die, that was inevitable. Even if he won, he had no family to return to. She supposed there was only one thing she could do. "Shhh, it's okay, Cassy. I'm here to protect you, it will all be okay. Close your eyes." Amyra stood, gently ruffling his hair, trying to offer whatever comfort she could, as she clutched the hilt of her sword. Who had she become? In one, swift motion, she summoned her shardblade. "Are your eyes closed, Cassy? Take a deep breath, okay?"

Amyra hears the poor boy around the corner. She smiles, and starts to quietly hum along as she turns the corner and walks up to him. She sits down next to him and continues humming. But her hands tremble, ever so slightly. She pulls him in for a hug.

Cassy? Amyra froze. Someone who actually needed her. She took in a staggered breath. She knew what she had to do. Who had she become? "Cassy?" Amyra asked in a soft voice, walking around the plateaus, searching for him. "Cassy, I'm here. Everything's gonna be alright." How could she trust them? How could she trust herself? Why. Why would anyone trust a monster like her?

Amyra smiled a bitter smile. Was it regret? Horror for what she became? No. She had to keep fighting. This was the only answer. Amyra closed her eyes and sliced her blade through Wren's neck. When she opened her eyes again, Wren's body was limp. Their eyes were closed and blood flowed freely from their neck. "May you find peace in the afterlife," Amyra whispered, turning away from the body. I should've died...

Amyra Ay absentmindedly nodded at Wren. Her twin was right. She had to win. Amyra walked outside, ready to take on her shift, but began sweating and shaking as she heard the interviews. When she saw her father, so broken that his very words were taken. I can't save them... I won't save them... Her eyes were red-rimmed and blurred. She didn't know what was happening. She didn't know what she was doing. But all she felt was anger. Hatred. Kill them. Kill them all. Her heart began racing. She summoned her shardblade, with only one image flashing through her mind. That man, covered in blood. Ha. As if I could protect him. Her gaze fell onto Wren, asleep. So peaceful. So vulnerable. "I'm sorry, Wren. I didn't want it to end this way," Amyra said under her breath, whipping her sword to Wren's neck. She held it there, one inch away from certain death. "But we both knew it couldn't last," She muttered through gritted teeth, staring intro Wren's eyes. Their terrified eyes. Trust. What a funny thing that is.
