  1. Firstly, i wonder whether Dalinar even could beat Adolin without his Bondsmith abilities. Second, i think Adolin is emotionally/mentally strong enough to break free of this kind of manipulation, at least once he realises he's have to fight his father.
  2. What about a Nightmaw? (Don't try this at home kids) *evil laugh*
  3. Yes, i had imagined the Awakener to be singer and standing in a storm (like Eshonai when she's about to take warform) so they can hear it.
  4. Ok, i see. That's interesting. Thank you!
  5. Thank you all! This is exactly what was puzzling me.
  6. By 'recognizing' i mean 'know that it is a particular pure tone', which i feel is similiar to the usual application of Perfect Pitch, as they would immediately know a note even if they hadn't heard it previously.
  7. Would Perfect Pitch allow an Awakener to recognize the Pure Tone of a Shard which they had never heard before, and/or gain intuitive knowledge of the method of construction and effects of the Tone?
  8. Did Ishar forge the Oathpact himself with the powers he recieved from Honour, or did Honour forge the Oathpact? Also, did Ishar create the Nahel bond, and if he did, did he do it around the same time?
  9. What do we know about Endowment's Intent? It is a lot less intuitive than the other Shards. Does it simply want to "enhance'' sapient life and sort of ''endow'' them with greater power, or is it something more?
  10. Yes, it's Investiture, and it would merge with the Shard, but it's Investiture with consciousness. Couldn't the consciousness remain separate, or do you think it would cling to it's old body of Investiture and be absorbed into the Shard with it?
  11. That's true, but I believe he is one of the most highly Invested objects we've seen.
  12. Got it. By "absorbing Investiture" i didn't mean the stuff he takes from his wielder to power himself, but the Investiture he absorbs from anyone he kills (for example Rayse)
  13. So he will even absorb Investiture that he sees as good/anti evil? Or does he simply see all Investiture as evil?
  14. Will Nightblood attempt to absorb the Investiture of any Shard, or only of those his bearer percieves as evil?
  15. How do Aviar get the Investiture they need for their ablilities? Do they have limits for how much they can draw on that Investiture?
  16. Not at all, not at all, what do you mean?
  17. Ah ok, thank you for explaining this. I find it very interesting how pure, unfocused energy without direction or a pattern develops sentience. Exactly this is what i meant.
  18. Exactly, this is what i meant earlier with the corpses -> stone statue -> corpse -> lifeless compared to stone staues -> corpse -> lifeless. But how do objects which were always inanimate (e.g. the doll Vasher makes at the start of Warbreaker) know how to act and move? They wouldn't have any Connections in the other realms if they'd never lived.
  19. I doubt it, but given what BS has said on spikes having a limit to the Investiture they can contain, maybe it depends on the number of Breaths a Returned has (i.e. the spike would absorb Breaths up to its limit, and if the limit was lower than the number of Breaths they had at the start, they'd survive). However, if aluminum spikes work the way @ShardlessVessel has suggested, then the number of Breaths they have wouldn't matter. They would stop being able to hold Investiture and all their Breaths would be purged, including their divine Breath.
  20. A very good point. I believe it is unusual for Investiture alone to give objects a life of their own, as happens in awakening. The other magic systems only give the user limited control over the movement of some objects, compared to Awakening, which gives an objective and the ability to act and react on its own according to the objective. Please tell me if I'm wrong, as this is just a guess, but is Investiture alone (being pure energy) normally able to do things like this? Yes, the breath is directed by the command, but normally that would just make the object act in a partcular way when commanded, instead of continuing to act/react afterwards. If Investiture isn't, then does Breath -as opposed to other forms of Investiture- contain Identity or Connection of its own? After all, it is harvested from people who it leaves incomplete afterwards, as if they were missing part of themselves. Or I'm just reading too much into this.
  21. Mare says: '' If we can't have flowers, no-one can!" "Yes dear, of course. I will see to it"
  22. I'm actually kinda disappointed that the cosmere isn't everything... XD
  23. Continuing upon this, what if brains aren't the source of mental capabilty at all, but rather your Spirit Web stores Connections between pieces of information gathered from life experience, and the brain is simply a medium for this. This could only be falsiflied with great difficulty, and not by replicating and kind of physical matter. We also have no proof that brain size is relavant to intelligence in the cosmere at all, even if brains do store your intelligence?
  24. Well, they would'nt have any organs (though I don't know if this is relavent for lifeless). Even if it isn't, I think it wouldn't become a lifeless but something less instead, because of how a lifeless' experiences before they died affect their abilities. I.e. Jewel's lifeless (made from Arsteel) is a relatively skilled swordsfighter. Possibly an awakened soulcast corpse simply wouldn't understand how to perform basic actions such as walking, because unlike a lifeless its body has no muscle memory (or other Connection to these basic actions) left over from life. @Dunkum, I think soulcasting to stone and back to flesh would work, at the very least, better than a corpse made from stone that was always stone. Maybe the length of time they spent as stone matters, as the corpse might get used to being stone and slowly forget its previous existence. This got really long.
