Cognitive Shadows and the importance of perception.
Arsteel replied to 2spooky4myshirt's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I really like this idea. I have an ideas why Vasher might be less affected by this, despite the many legends built around him, and it is that very few people associate the legends featuring him with the names "Zahel" or "Vasher" which seem to be the two names he associates most with himself. I think maybe he has disconnected his other past names from himself, and instead simply sees them as unrelated legendary persons, like everybody else. -
Yes, exactly! The Cadmium example is also very interesting. Also, with using stormlight to balance strength/wakefullness storing, it's like you're basically able to stow the power granted by Stormlight away for later, instead of being pressed for time to use it before it leaves you/your spheres.

Ooooh.... interesting. And about the compounding: I know it's not necessary, I just added it to make it all even more stupidly OP.

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. This is what I meant with "whether or not the speed you're moving at while lashing counts as your own speed". Maybe it could also be used similiarly to how asmodeus suggests for the healing: you can store the speed gained from the surge, but you could perhaps put all but a tiny amount of your speed in a Steelmind- so much that you could barely walk- and then remain mobile by using lashing to move yourself about.

Thanks for making this clear. I'd been wondering if it would work this way too.

So, let's say you have a gold compounder, who is healed by either an Edgedancer or a Truthwatcher. Would it maybe be possible to absorb tonnes of Stormlight, use it to heal someone, and then have them store that healing in a Goldmind at just the right moment? This would then allow them to burn the Goldmind at any point (granting them an extra boost which I expect would make the healing greater than it originally would have been if just taken directly from the Stormlight), so the healing would be stored away safely for later use (as opposed to it slowly fading away in the form of Stormlight). As Stormlight is easily accesible (at least if you are on Roshar) and the healing power gained from the Surge of Progression seems to be great, at least compared to just Feruchemical gold, this could be an interesting way of easily storing lots of healing, or maybe other Feruchemical attributes too. For example, what if you could Lash yourself through the air at great speeds and then stop yourself by storing that speed in a Steelmind? The basic idea is just to combine the large raw power of the Surges with Feruchemy, which directs and controls power well. In my mind this works a little to well, so I might just have made it all up. I can see some things that might get in the way (at least with healing). For example, i don't think Radiants can heal somebody who don't percieve themselves as injured or sick. Could you bypass this by changing their/your Perception somehow? Another problem could be that Surges don't count as attributes you can store, because they aren't seen as belonging to you but to the Stormlight itself? Also, I didn't really do my research before writing this. It's likely all wild speculation, so please tell me what you think about combining Surgebinding and Feruchemy.

I actually genuinely think she's a great character. I just went really over the top.

I dunno, but I think M-Bot is more like Syl?

Jasnah: stuck-up royal control freak princess who thinks everyone else is too stupid for their own good and that she therefore needs to mentor them all. Also likes to pretend she's clever and the other ardents all humour her bevause she's a princess. Aaand is delusional about a magical realm called Shadesmar where she has magic powers- because she is insecure about the fact that she's actually just useless.

All very good points, and I also agree that Taravangian's new power makes this possibility less likely. I'm not saying this is what I think will happen, just that I think it might and that Cultivation's plans are going somewhere in this direction.

Got it. I thought because of Perception they might no longer affect him if he didn't know they existed. Thanks!
-
Also about Hoid unleashed... what if Taravodium accidentally breaks Hoid's Breath which contains his memory of being a Dawnshard, and suddenly Hoid's restraints disappear?
-
Errr... haven't we forgotten how Taravodium managed to destroy one of Hoid's memory Breaths?
-
Sorry, correction. I didn't know what a dawnshard was at this point, i thought it was synonymous to Shard. I've looked it up now. I apologise.
-
Yup, i've read it, I just forgot that too. Any ideas on how it formed? Maybe Patji/First of the Sun was a sort of staging ground for some previous Shardic interactions that didn't end in complete splintering? Or maybe it was created by Adonalsium. The latter would indicate a particular importance of First of the Sun, as I believe most/all of the other Shardpools were formed as concentrations of a Shard's power.

So, Cultivation, posing as the Nightwatcher, "blessed" Taravangian with the ability to 1: partially outthink Rayse. 2: bear Odium. What if Cultivation is still in control over Taravangian's smart/emotional days? Could she make him suddenly intelligent for a few days, thereby removing his Connection to the Shard of Odium? This would be a great failsafe for Cultivation if Taravodium's plans run, well, contrary to her own. Taravodium will likely consider this and attempt to remove his Connection to Cultivation, but it's possible this would make him revert to his original, pre- Nightwatcher visit personality and severe him from Odium anyway. In any case, I believe Cultivation's plans stretch much further than we might have thought.

Very interesting. I have been thinking about Cultivations infpuence too. For example, what if Cultivation still has power of Taravangian's "clever" and "emotional'' days? Cultivation could make Taravangian clever again for a few days, and he might lose his Connection to Odium and be split from it! This would be a failsafe if Taravodium refuses to work with Cultivation.

Hoid Insults He Never Said (and the things he did)
Arsteel replied to SymphonianBookworm's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This one sounds prophetic. Who does he say it to? -
Also, why would you give a DAWNSHARD of all things to a group of travelling researchers who are looking for arcane technology to experiment with. EXPERIMENT. The Sleepless are wiser than that, I believe.
-
If it's a dawnshard, it already has infinite Investiture, and so it wouldn't be constantly trying to absorb more.
-
I'm not sure, maybe it only worked with silver as that doesn't have any properties in the metallic arts that we know of.
-
Thank you!
-
Ohh god. I'm stupid. I entirely forgot about the worms! Maybe the pool is invested? I'd say its a shardpool but that planet doesn't have a shard, does it?
-
I've read it already, but i haven't noticed anything about where they get Investiture from. What are you ideas?
-
Also... why has everybody forgotten about El? Isn't he Odium's champion? I think Moash has already been beaten to soundly to be Odium's champion IMO.
