    Lana looked at a loss for words. "Calano, they..." she trailed off. "A couple years after you disappeared, your mother got really sick. She struggled along for years, but she didn't make it all the way. Your father went into shock, and something happened- he was never the same again. He's not really himself anymore," she looked upset. "I'm really sorry, Calano." Gtg, I'll be back in a couple hours

    Lana looked distraught. She mouthed the words before she could bring herself to say them. "Calano...they're gone," she finally said.

    "That's incredible!" gushed Lana.

    "Woah!" Lana exclaimed. "Since when have you had those?"

    "Sinceeeeeeee...I don't know, but some birds have scaly feet and claws." Lana looked sheepish. "To be fair, I haven't really tried it out."

    "Basically I can turn into a dragon. Not literally. I can give myself a massive frame and scales and a large wingspan and call it a day"

    "All I had to do was drink a potion and they could transfer them over. Good trade, I think...Remember, I said any kind of bird. So I can basically turn into a dragon"

    Lana cracked a smile. "Isn't being a bird so much cooler though? I sold them for the bracelet. Wings can be obnoxious sometimes."

    "This friend....I haven't seen them in a long time. They might not be the most welcoming." Lana looked at Calano. "Well...after I started looking for you again, I realized that you'd probably be in bird form. So I looked far and wide until I found this." She held up a bracelet. "It lets me change into any kind of bird for up to twelve hours at a time. It's really useful"

    Lana thought for a minute. "I don't know exactly where, but I do know how we can find her. I have a friend who might know where she's been."

    "How so?" Lana asked.

    Lana sighed. "I'm not entirely sure." She hesitated. "That night we parted ways...I may have asked my sister to alter my personality a bit so I didn't hurt as badly," she said slowly. "I lost myself for a while, but she may have asked me to do something to you before then..." she trailed off. "It's all so foggy!"

    Orodal laughed. "It's been hurting for a dozen years now. I don't think a hospital can do much. But might as well see what this technotic shop has to offer."

    Lana sat there thinking. There could be a lot of reasons for this. She hadn't been in full control of herself that one night, she'd known. Could she have caused this? sounds good

    "Um, that smells to me like witchcraft," Lana said, wrinkling her nose. "But not just any kind of witchcraft. My sister's witchcraft. Maybe your feathers are mistaking me for her."

    Lana looked thoughtful. "Calano, did your feathers change in any way when you left the City? When I...when I told you to leave?"

    Lana looked bewildered. "What kind of feelings?" She glanced at the feathers. "That looks like a violent shade. I think that-" She stopped herself. "I don't want to assume anything, but do you think these feeling are from before or after we parted ways?"

    Lana laughed uncomfortably. "That's a little strange. I don't know why that could be." She thought for a minute. "Hey feathers, why am I The Mother?"

    Lana scratched her neck sheepishly. "I'll do my best next time." She cocked her head to listen...but heard nothing. "What do you mean? I didn't hear anything."

    Lana's heart pounded as he replied. "You're right," she said, letting herself smile. "Corruption can do without us." "And I know you, Calano. I know you would try to find the freest place to soar. I looked in the mountains, the valleys, the rivers, everywhere I could think of. I looked for signs of blue birds and I followed the trail you left behind. I knew I would find you eventually."

    True. Though for me it makes me better able to emphasize with others and create meaningful music. So not exactly TPBM considers themself to be empathetic
