Pondering other worlds, whether those be the distant worlds in our own universe, or the worlds we can enter through the stories of others.
    ...
Speaking of which, here are some worlds/stories that I like, in no particular pattern or order (though this is probably in need of some updating):
    The Cosmere
    Avatar: The Last Airbender
    The Legend of Zelda
    The Xenoblade Chronicles series
Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and adjacent books
    Project Hail Mary
    The Remembrance of Earth's Past
    Dune
    Interstellar
    Arrival
    Inception
    Tenet
    Princess Mononoke
    Castle in the Sky
    Fullmetal Alchemist
    Star Wars
...And probably a bunch of others I'm forgetting. This list is not comprehensive.

  1. I finished my re-read of the original Mistborn trilogy today. I'm re-reading the series in preparation for The Lost Metal, which as you all know comes out in November. I'm reading Mistborn: Secret History next.

And Stormwinds, I forgot how epic the ending of Hero of Ages is.

(Cosmere spoilers ahead, but I'm assuming most, if not all, of you have read everything relevant at this point.)

I paid close attention to when we saw the POV of someone holding a Shard. I should probably go back and re-read Taravangian's scenes in Rhythm of War after he Ascends to Odium, and compare them to what happens to Vin when she holds Preservation, and Sazed when he holds what would come to be known as Harmony.

Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages had a different feel to me than The Final Empire. It seemed to me that the world was stable during the Lord Ruler's reign, but then after his death, Scadrial just went into an insane death spiral until the end of HoA. Almost like they were taking a leap of faith that started at the Lord Ruler's death, and didn't end safely until they see the world remade anew. That finale, that sense of victory, that's portrayed at the very end is incredible, and probably one of my favorite scenes in a Brandon Sanderson book.

I then did some mental gymnastics trying to figure out who or what the heck Trell is, even though Trell doesn't become relevant until later. Some research on the Coppermind helped confirm that Trell has to be related to either Autonomy or Odium, which I kind of already knew. It's probably Autonomy, but I'll rant about it later.

So anyway. The ending of the original Mistborn trilogy was incredible, and I can't wait to see how he ends Wax & Wayne, and then how he ends the first half of Stormlight. I hope both endings are just as incredible.

in hero of ages when he says that the ash should be red because it makes more sense when talking to Sazed. he says, "red, now that's bold. it really says, "look, now that evil force is trying to kill me!"" (paraphrased)

Yeah, it just seems so natural that evil should be red.
