A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Argent replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I thought about relationship, but didn't like it. Feels a little redundant, since we can shove its content in the others (family information feels like it should go in Introduction, and friends / other characters they encounter should be in History). Especially for a young Wiki too many sections is bad mojo. -
A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Argent replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
If Renarin's article is Feather's, you need to write it less like an essay and more like an encyclopedia entry I say this in good humor - it's good, no doubts about that. But it does feel more like an essay, it lacks the cold detachment I am used to seeing in encyclopedias. This, however, is not something I am going to raise beef about. -
Which Brandon Character Would You Date?
Argent replied to Chaos's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It's surprisingly difficult to find a decent drawing of a dark Superman as a likeness of Steelheart... How is that not dating material? -
A Stylistic Question: Present or Past tense?
Argent replied to FeatherWriter's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I am not sure I agree with an Abilities section for characters. This - and maybe you too - implies magical abilities, and the majority of Brandon's characters don't have those. -
Theory: How Gavilar got the Evil Sphere of Doom
Argent replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree. I briefly touched (or intended to?) on the idea that since Vorinism makes a big deal out of symmetry (in shapes, cities, names...), and since the second page of Navani's notebook shows only symmetric cuts for the gemstones that can hold spren, one has to wonder what properties a spherical gemstone - one with perfect symmetry - will have. But the number of sides, that sounds too... basic. -

So you felt the need to come here and rain on everybody's day. Real smooth there, partner. Real smooth.

Interesting. Let's keep both tables - I like that one puts emphasis on the individual Surgebinders, and one focuses more on the orders themselves.

A Warbreaker sequel is on the way about as much as you are on your way of becoming old - it will happen, just not anytime soon But, where are my manners? Welcome, welcome! Come, sit! Eat, drink, and talk about the Cosmere! Enjoy your stay here! The last part sounds much better if you imagine me with a booming announcer voice. EDIT: Mysty, somehow up until now I was kind of okay with waiting for Words of Radiance. Reading you explicitly say March up there (even though I knew the release date) made me really realize how long of a wait it will be. I now experience feelings of strong dislike towards your persona.

Lift's order affiliation doesn't become clear from Brandon's reading. But the proverbial cat is way out of the bag by now - she is an Edgedancer, this one will probably stay. Also, who changed Dalinar to a Bondsmith? Stoneward was the last popular theory I was aware of. @kurkistan, I think we can call him Darkness. It's as good of a name as any (not that we have any...). Though I am willing to call him Nalan @karaokeang, I like the idea of a table. It will have to be an image though, no table support in the forums...

Which Brandon Character Would You Date?
Argent replied to Chaos's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Too much psycho potential. -
Perhaps you are right. But you are also disagreeing with only a minor point
-
Comparing the maps of Elantris and Emperor's Soul will probably mean very little to you, as those books take place veeery far away from one another. Separate continents, I think. The second Mistborn trilogy takes place about half a century after the Wax & Wayne trilogy, so about 400 years after the Hero of Ages.

Interesting what Ym's order's words might be... Windrunners take after Jezrien's protecting attribute. I don't think Shallan has found hers, and we don't know about Jasnah - thought it would make sense for them to deal with honesty/truthfulness and wisdom respectively*. Some of you can't verify this, but Lift seems to be onto something related to the loving attribute of her orden's patron, Vedeledev. I say this so we can uniquely identify the shoemaker as a potential member of Order #5, Palah's order. Back to Ym though. He'll probably lean on the giving aspect of Palah. Learned would kind of also fit him, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with giving. So something like "I will give to those in need"? And on a side note, I wonder if the Second and Third Ideals of each order take after one of the order's patron Herald's divine attributes each. So Kaladin's / Windrunners' Second Ideal takes after Jezrien's protecting; it's possible that their Third deals with leading. If this is true, then Ym might actually be closer to becoming a Radiant than Kaladin is, because he's got both the giving (giving out shoes) and the learned (asking for stories /knowledge in return) attributes down. * Maybe Jasnah has seen something like the Cryptics - but not exactly the same. If they are the spren of honesty and truth, her own order's spren (of wisdom?) might not be too different .

Potentially wrong world. We still don't know whether a single Shard produces only one kind of Splinters. It's possible - though I admit not highly likely - that Aona was Splintered into proto-Seons and something else; something that, when accepted (bad word, implies voluntary acceptance; follow the spirit, not the letter of this idea) by a living Arelish person, turns them into an Elantrian.
-
No WoB on this, no. Teft (was it Teft?), however, was not terribly surprised that Kaladin was chugging spheres' stormlight like shots after he survived the highstorm, and I don't think he (at the time) had a way of guess which order Kaladin would fall under. Because he suspected something like that was going on. Moreover, every Surgebinder we've seen seems to experience an accelerated metabolism when holding stormlight - quicker reflexes, more energy, high strength levels; accelerated healing could easily fall under that umbrella.

I can't continue rebuffing your arguments without severely spoiling the interlude...
-
I suppose he could be one of the Ten Fools. But he feels so much like a... like a tired and indifferent Herald to me. Actually, no. Scratch that. There is a line in Lift's interlude that almost straight-up says he is not with Odium.

I am not sure it would give him enough strength to hold the claw in place - it might give him the endurance to not get punctured, or maimed, or smashed, but I still feel like he would need some added strength to exert an opposing force. I am thinking of a hammer and a nail analogy - the nail has enough endurance to not be broken by the hammer, but it will still get shoved downwards. But I definitely see your reasoning - I am more inclined to believe mine for now, but not by much. I recognize shaky logic when I see it.
-
I think you might be reading too much into it. The whole "shadow separating itself from the darkness" is a pretty common literary technique to describe somebody or something hiding in the shadows / darkness, and then stepping out of it.
-
Maybe. I think he could pass for an Alethi - Brandon suggested that East Indian matches the Alethi complexion well enough, and a quick Google search reveals (mostly) people who could pass for lightly tanned Caucasians, as far as the color of the skin is concerned. It's not like our favorite lowlander looks Scandinavian Also. +1 for Rambo Kaladin. Something about the current cover had been bothering me for months (literally since I saw it), and I finally know what it is. Kaladin does look like Rambo.

With one of Kalak's divine attributes being builder, Bondsmithing sounds like his kind of deal.
-
Moreover, @skaa, I am fairly confident Kaladin's healing is just a result of him holding stormlight.
