  1. Yeah, there's no earth in the Cosmere. But it would be so cool if there was! I love fantasy books that are future versions of the earth. The dog thing is from Scadrial and Yolen probably. Hoid makes a lot of other references throughout the Cosmere to animals/technologies that may seem like they're from earth, but really they're just from planets similar to earth.
  2. Ugghhh I have a cold and it's so annoying!

But also I'm going to make cookies tomorrow.

So at least one thing is going right.

    Anyways, happy Friday!

My neighbour gave us this really good cookie recipe (like, it’s actually amazing) so I know they’re going to be really good

  3. I would read RoW first because there's some characters from it, but honestly there's minimal spoilers and it's fine as a standalone. RoW is pretty big commitment and it's understandable if you don't want to read it. Yumi is a much easier and lighter read and I would say that it's totally fine if you haven't read RoW.
  4. Welcome to the shard! Be careful with your research. Remember that the shard is a great resource because people can answer your questions without giving too much away.
  5. Welcome! Of course I agree that Brandon is an amazing author. His magic systems make me judge other books so much more harshly because they're so good.
  6. That's interesting. I guess I sort of put that together but I never really thought about it. Yeah that makes sense. I kind of like the theory about Yumi better but that actually makes sense.
  7. Are there other examples of this? (Probably there are and I just can't remember.) I really love this idea! I know that the use of nimi was probably for the benefit of whoever he was telling the story to because Hoid was translating, but I still like the idea. It would be awesome if that's the reason that Shin people call rocks holy. One thing I would consider though is that both cultures might find rocks important for unrelated reasons. Maybe Brandon thought of a cool idea, and either consciously or subconsciously decided to use it twice.
  8. This was so fun!! You can find the rules in this thread : Tarachin Rules, if anyone wants to build it for themself. The rules are meant for a full sized version, but we figured making a small one to test the rules would be easier.
  9. It's raining outside and @Stormform and I are making profiteroles. It's a pretty good day!

  10. Honestly I would be okay with this as long as the most important books were live action. Stuff like, Tress, Yumi, and even Elantris could be animated. I want at least one live action adaptation. The best thing would be Stormlight, but Mistborn is probably more likely.
  11. Letter?? Also, don't lots of numbers start and end with the same number? 1734
  12. Cool! I Love Era 2, especially the Lost Metal. From what I've read of the secret projects so far, they're pretty great. I hope you have a good time reading them!
  13. I wouldn't want this for Kaladin, because I feel like it would be such a horrible ending for his character. On the other hand, it might be really interesting. I'm starting to realize that I'm okay with stories not having happy endings. Anyways, the reason that I think it would be interesting is because it could cause the slow unraveling of Kaladin's ideals. Starting with the fourth, "I accept that there are those I cannot protect." As a shard, I feel that Kaladin would start to believe that with his great power, he should be able to protect everyone. After he discovered his powers, he realized that he wasn't cursed, and then he felt like every one who he wasn't able to save was his fault. If he gained even more power, he might go through this again. Every time a person died, Kaladin would start to feel even worse. As a shard, he would out live all of his friends, and feel horrible for being unable to protect them. I'm not sure how this would affect the third Ideal, but as the intent started to get to him, I think Kaladin would stop protecting people, or even start killing them claiming to be protecting them. He would see it this way because his perspective would be warped by the intent of the shard. Anyways, that's not even mentioning what this would do to Syl. That's why I don't want this to happen. I love Syl.
  14. I don't really watch a lot of anime, but I definitely really liked this book. I definitely thought it was one of Sanderson's better romances, although I didn't find the mystery as engaging as some of his other works. The one reason that I don't want a YatNP anime is because what I would much rather have is a more cohesive film/TV show adaptation of the Cosmere as a whole. I know that this probably won't happen because it would such a commitment for anyone to produce. It's just that I feel that the Cosmere would be such a great sort of fantasy version of something like the MCU. But if that's never going to happen than I guess a YatNP anime would be cool. I've always wanted to get into anime but I've never found the right show to start with. Maybe this could be the one!
  15. Yay! Welcome to the shard! What books are you planning on reading next?
  16. I mostly liked the ending. To be honest, I wasn't a super huge fan of the Shroud. I found that imagining this sort of dull city with hardly any light and a pretty restrictive color scheme was less fun then imagining Yumi's cities with floating plants and cold springs. When the Shroud went away at the end, it just seemed like a b=natural ending to the story. The problems that I do have with the ending are mostly about Yumi's survival. I really, really liked her character. I'm not sure why, because it seems like a lot of people didn't, but I found that I loved the way she had grown so much by the end of the book. Her sacrifice was such an important piece or her arc, and it seemed so pointless when she just came back. Other than that, I liked the ending. The epilogue was nice. Even though some people don't like happy endings, and I kind of wanted a sad one, the epilogue fit so well with the tone of the book taht it left me satisfied.
  17. Yeah. I really liked this part. I just don't like how many people were so immediately against the awakening of the parshmen, considering that even if their 'gods" are evil, they are just newly freed slaves who can think for the first time in their lives. Yeah. This is how I feel for that entire storming book. I think a lot of people feel the same. I've never really looked at this thread before. It's super fun too read all of your theories and thoughts. Thanks for doing this!
  18. WOW! That's really good! I don't know enough about Scadrial to be able to vouch for it's accuracy, but it looks amazing. I love the push/pull idea, and the positions of the hands look really convincing (I literally can't draw hands).
