Full Cosmere Restarted RP: PHASE 1
ChickenBonanza replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
“Oh, I have a few ideas,” she says, cryptic. “But there’s no need to get ahead of ourselves. We should not be so hasty with these powers distribution, everyone shall want their say, I imagine.” “Indeed,” Grace readily agrees. Eyes turning to focus on the power of the will to dominate, which sucked in as much light as it emitted, and Mascarose, standing imperially before it, staring off towards a crumbling Yolen. “Quite firm in his want of it, I gather.” -

Grace gives a short lived laugh, hand raised to cover her mouth as if she was a demure girl. “Why, whatever I damn well please. Did you think I was going to rest on my laurels? No, there shall be many things to do, I’d imagine. Depending, of course, on the actions of our dear friends.” -

Grace breaks away from Shalta, murmuring words of surety. No surgery is bloodless, she says, matter-of-fact. Removing a weed disturbs the soil. After, she goes to Alph’s side, back subtly stooped with age, a pleasant smile on her face. As if watching her own grandchildren. “Oh, yes,” she agrees. “I had expected a tad more decorum amongst us. Too excited, they are. As if there is no more work to be done.” She makes a show of thinking over Alph’s question, a few seconds of hummed thought. “There are a few that quite like me,” she confesses, with an offhand wave towards a certain direction, beyond which lay powers of cold logic, unending feeling, and a desire for ever more. “And I think I quite like them back. Though I’d imagine you’d prefer that one of beauty. Too energetic for me, I must say.” Her smile grows when another of their number approaches. “How nice of you to join us, Eloh.” -

Grace Isilyar was there to place a steadying hand on Shalta’s arm, greeting her with a matronly smile. “Are you alright, Shalta? Surely all of this does not come as a shock to you?” -

Full Cosmere Restarted RP: PHASE 1
ChickenBonanza replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
Mascarose bristled at the attention, and the nickname, a presumption of familiarity from a woman he certainly did not inwardly trust. Nor did he trust himself to interact with her in a way which furthered his own interests, and not hers. So, he remained suitably reserved. Stood a little straighter, to reinforce a projected illusion. “The fruit of our labor, Isilyar,” he answered smoothly, eyes returning to Dominion. “This flavor of godhood suits me, I’d hazard.” -

Short moments of deliberation, spent with the mind elsewhere. Mascarose could feel Ambition’s tithe, to never stop, the promise that godhood was merely the first step of a never ending plot. He rejected that out of hand. This was to be the end result, not a beginning. Dominion. Everything he wanted, at once. The absolute wielding of authority, all his. Yes, he thought. You shall do. But it is not immediately that he moved to secure that power. He stepped away with firm command. You are mine, I claim you. For who else could bear you with as much grace as I? Mascarose forced himself away from hastiness. His attentions now turned to the others about him, next to him, regarding them with a countenance cold and calculating, a subtle disdain fit for a god. -

ChickenBonanza replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
It is stunning, the immediacy with which consequences arrive. To kill a god is to kill much more. But all lives lost are paltry compared to the reward, for it has to be. It has to have been worth it. Mascarose returns to the present, to find himself reaching for the power most resembling that which he has constantly desired. -

Author man’s willingness to identify Densities as Sel and Vapours as Scadrial, but unwillingness to identify Broken Sky could be indicative that Broken Sky is something that is not yet known, indeed. It would have to be a place suitable enough to have its Cognitive Realm be dubbed ‘Broken Sky.’ Maybe Vax’s theoretical resemblance to the Cognitive could fill that? If Ati mistook the Scadrial subastral for Vax in the physical, perhaps ‘Broken Sky’ could be a signifier of Vax’s dreary, permanently dark sky, but iunno.

What, even, is the shape of the Cosmere galaxy? The Milky Way, when viewed from a certain angle, could be considered (very roughly) flat. (Even though the ‘flat’ part is still unfathomably large.) Though, given the small nature of the Cosmere, there may not be enough star systems to form any cohesive shape asides from ‘amorphous blob’, which would make the Cognitive Realm’s flatness translate weird when considering the multiple dimensions of the physical, as noted.

Here be my reasoning: In regards the naming, I feel the descriptor ‘Broken Sky’ fits Threnody and Taldain less completely than it does Ashyn. If we consider relevance and ease of access, I would place Ashyn to be roughly equal to Threnody. While there is no known method of in-world access, like Threnody’s intermittent perpendicularities, I would say it is reasonable that Ashyn may have something similar. It, too, has been steeped in Investiture, arguably just as much as Threnody. Given their Physical proximity to each other, surely Ashyn and Braize would be the shortest distance from Roshar, when traveling through the Cognitive Realm. Surely that proximity would be especially relevant to nearby Cognitive regions It is curious, then, that Braize is absent from the Shadesmar map. It is a good point, that no Expanse is named for it, for surely the presence of Odium and the locked away Fused and Voidspren would be of more significance than a planet farther away. I don’t really know why that would be the case, other than ‘they just didn’t name an Expande after it,’ or that Expanses are only named for the paths to different solar systems. I don’t really think it particularly matters what the Expanses actually refer to, the subastrals will be around anyway, but ‘Broken Sky’ just feels ‘Ashyn’ to me.

Personally, I would consider Ashyn to be the more likely candidate for Broken Sky. Most of its a flaming hellscape, yeah? And it’s would be way closer to Roshar in the Cognitive Realm than other planets, and therefore’d be more likely to have an Expanse named for it than others, I’d think. Even if Ashyn’s Physical ‘sky’ isn’t broken, we gotta consider how it’s Subastral will appear in the Cognitive. In noncanon Silence Divine snippets, their floating islands are two-sided, with farms facing the sun and people living on the side facing Ashyn’s burning ground. To those people, their ‘sky’ is broken.

Full Cosmere Restarted RP: Speculative Biology
ChickenBonanza replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
That is how it feels, indeed. I do like this concept a lot. My thoughts immediately went to Aethers, and how Roseite would need ambient Investiture to support itself separated from the source user. (“…..” mentioned something similar in the og thread, too. With Microkinesis ‘breaking’ like Lightweaving did.) (Like, maybe things like Microkinesis didn’t need a lot of power from the user because energy was naturally drawn from Adolnasium’s Investiture, like with Sel’s magic from the Dor, or Allomancy/Hemalurgy from Preservation and Ruin. With Adolansium separated, Microkinesis/Lightweaving couldn’t draw power from the Spiritual Realm, because the source it ‘knows’ to draw from no longer exists, and is instead attuned to many different Shards.) -

I mean, such a thing is not completely unprecedented in canonical Cosmere, Feruchemists do something similar, I’d posit. Through converting the state of their bodies and souls into Investiture. It is still weird, though. -

Trune is not synonymous with Fain, it refers to a non-Fain environment. (The standard, real-world Earth environment would be considered ‘Trune.’) Humans can survive in Fain environments, too, they just can’t eat anything organic that is Fain. (Fain life is perfectly safe to touch, from the Liar of Partinel snippets.) I’d assume a similar thing would occur with Sho Del and Trune organics, but maybe not. -

From Dragonsteel Prime, (so, dubious) there are a few things: There are also the general things, like them being a form of Fain-life, which can’t survive in a Trune (‘normal’) environment by virtue of them being unable to consume ‘normal’ organic substances for energy, or something. I’d seen that, too, and thought it was a pretty neat concept. -
they did have weird air currents and floating stones, so there’s something

Iunno what “Reason”, the Shard, actually is, but I feel even with this definition of wisdom, there would be little emotion to be reigned in. A mortal mind compared to an infinite aspect of God. (Like, an idealist’s perception of Reason, the Shard, if one assumes that “Reason” means “consider all facts and exercise the most optimal, efficient, rational means available to achieve your goals,” as I do.)

There is a pretty wide range of time where Ambition could have died. The range given in Wind and Truth is around 2000 years, I think. And Odium did kill Devotion and Dominion before he did Ambition. So, the Evil destroyed Homeland anywhere from 0 to ~2000 years after the Shattering, assuming the Evil started Eviling all over the place immediately after Ambition’s Investiture arrived, and didn’t lay dormant for however long. So, Threnody could be all well and prosperous right now, or they could be 2000 years removed from gunpowder and the like. Personally, I’d assume their technology level would be roughly analogous with Yolen’s. Would feel weird for THE planet to not be the farthest ahead, at least at the time of the Shattering. That shouldn’t dictate anything, though. (If Nazrilof was born around the time of the Evil’s rise, he’d be ~8-10000 years old by the time of Mistborn Era 2. That’d be pretty funny. Who knows his actual birthdate, however.)

The Coppermind only gives us the canon sources, which we don’t got too much for. Not even an overview of how it’s used in Dragonsteel Prime on its own non-canon page. In Dragonsteel Prime, however, Microkinesis is not necessarily ‘powered’ by anything specific. Like how an individual muscle might not be ‘powered’ by anything, but instead draws from the vague well of energy that is your body. (I don’t know, man, pretend it makes sense.) People do, however, display signs of exhaustion after doing intensive displays of Microkinesis. What ‘intensive’ means varies with the natural talents of the user. One person may find manipulating light to form illusions rather easy, while another might find making a small object invisible a matter of intense effort. A similar phenomenon is seen with destruction and forced growth. Even so, using Microkinesis in the way you have most affinity for can leave you unsteady on your feet. (Though manipulating light would probably fall under the purview Yolish Lightweaving instead of Microkinesis by today’s standards. Unless we consider Lightweaving a facet of Microkinesis, but that’s probably not it, I’d think.) I think these two are the closest to what we we see, and are probably best for our purposes. With the added addendum that, while Microkinesis might have a broad variety of effects and style of use, it is most common for a user to be most potent with a single or a few facets. Other uses beyond that focus might then be possible, but not to any particularly useful degree. ’Seeing’ axi did not seem to be an energy intensive task at all, and should probably be something any Microkinetic could do for nigh indefinitely. I’d say that, if a character were to be a Microkinetic, that their overall level of strength and what they can do with Microkinesis to be a must-have to include. (Can you destroy things? Cause growth of organic substances? Light? Heat? Exert a general force? Shift around a material, like with Stoneshaping?) There’s probably a lot of options. As long as people don’t go around making nuclear bombs or disintegrating people with a touch. Gasp, how scandalous!

It’d probably be best if we established whatever missing rules and limitations we need, so that it could be used in future without worry, would it not?

Personally, I would consider Microkinesis to be fine, at least in the case of Shards-to-be. Doesn’t really matter how something works if they gain a power to eclipse it in all ways a thousand times over, right? Serves well as something to flesh out a background, I think. (Along with other Yolish powers.) For non-Shards, it’d be more of something to discuss, if you don’t want to use Microkinesis as it is presented in Dragonsteel Prime without scrutiny. Even if it’s overpowered—especially, really—I think it would serve to enhance the abilities and mystique of would-be Hoid-like characters. GM’s choice, though. (Also, I’ve added pronouns to my character-submit-post thing.)
