Finally making my way through TLM
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh yes. I do remember seeing that. Do you think that stormlight usage for fueling allomancy would also grant the healing effects of stormlight to the users? In a situation where a bondsmith decides to open a perpendicularity in the middle of a battle field between radiants and mistborn they could be fueling both sides at this point. Not just infinite fuel but it appears that the more purified investiture available the more powerful the allomancy gets as well which is good news for scadrial and dangerous news for others. -
Maybe I am looking too much into the wording of this. I am listening to the ars Arcanum and under feruchemy it says "it is possible to be born with only 1 feruchemical ability". As I hear that it seems silly because that is all we have seen through era 2. Do you think that the Terris are potentially keeping quiet the existence of full feruchemists still being born? Or do you think that is a mistake in the way it was written (or most likely a mistake in the way I heard it)?

Finally making my way through TLM
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay okay. I finished it. I am not sure I caught that single revelation though. I see aluminum becoming mass produced to be a big advantage. I also can see the ability to harvest more investiture for spikes to be a large step in the right direction. (Although it is gruesome and I would hope that the technique could be combined with other arts to minimize the number of folks needed to turn worse than drabs.) Trying hard to think back. Do you mean the non investiture related advancements in technology? I honestly figured that every planet will eventually reach those same advancements just reskinned for flavor. It is neat to think that lerasium could be possible again. Kelsier seems to agree that technology isn't enough. The metallic arts need to be stronger in the people although this poses another issue/question I will have to post about compounding and sdna. So what was it? Have I totally missed something big? -
Precog: stormlight and chromium
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I really like this more. I would much rather this be a surge thing specific to windrunners than yet another passive ability slapped onto stormlight. -
I relistened to the arena scene from WoR today for the fun of it. Kaladin talks about dancing around the shardbearers seemingly knowing instinctively where they would strike before they did it... and then his stormlight ran out. Is this perhaps a small taste of the types of precog that chromium could grant? I like the illustration of what could be fortune used in combat. I hate that it is yet another metallic art that can get grouped up in the "stormlight does it all" package. That said I don't think that stormlight precog can touch true atium and future sight. I don't know that that level of precog will be anywhere near what a true luckomancer could pull off with chromium. But it is cool to see on screen the spidey-sense.

Oh yeah. Nightblood speaking to szeth the first time was such a great scene. I love seeing the awakeners in SA. I wish I could get PoV from vivenna and the cloak around the arm. Everytime Vasher makes a comment about colors and then curses Roshar for having none cracks me up. Roshar might have a ton of light to help but it seems dreadfully bare and dull for someone with the 5th heightening. -

Dang it. Maybe I did. I don't even know. I thought it was a later battle. I haven't touched OB 7 months at least. My spoilered brain had read all about stormlight and shardplate and shardblades long before I ever read WoK even. SA just isn't my normal style of fantasy for reading. Honestly I was purely happy with just Scadrial until a couple years ago when I first learned about Hoid. Even then I only read about him and stumbled on the cosmere thanks to wanting to homebrew allomancy for D&D. Then I read about nightblood and breaths and shardblades. I started WoK and after getting bored in the first few chapters decided to try out warbreaker (my current #1 favorite cosmere system). After that I powered through WoK. I really enjoyed WoR and then Oathbringer made me want to give up on the cosmere cause it didn't seem worth it haha. Now I am getting through TLM and will likely power through the rest of SA just to be be done with it. I have such a sad issue with the fact that Nalthis #2 seems to be on the eternal back burner. I was so hoping that was one of the secret projects. Truth be told most of what motivates me to keep returning to SA is the promise of seeing some awakeners even if I don't get to see them do their thing and get a good POV from one. -

Okay I feel got. We all know I havent read that part yet. I just thought I had read that she was shot through the eye slit of her shardplate for some reason. Either way, I think the healing at 1st and 2nd oaths would leave radiants significantly more vulnerable to 1 shots than at 3rd or 4th oaths. Do you think targeting the blessings is even possible? They are underneath the skin and being held onto by the kandra plus they are highly invested objects anyway. Highly invested inside of the body of an invested being. -

Kaladin survived a lot on the 1st ideal alone... but nothing that would have been debilitating. If Kaladin had been fighting a thug in the arena and broken both of his legs I think the thug would have finished him off in the time it took him to heal back up. That was at 2nd oath. There is a reason Brandon waited for 3rd ideal Shallan to get stabbed in the heart and 4th ideal to take an arrow through the brain. I think a crushed skull or broken legs would be too much for a 1st ideal to feasibly fight through. Same said for a face full of steel pushed projectiles. Here is an interesting one... Kaladin at 1st ideal vs Melaan. Poor kandra get left out so often. -

Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to The Sibling's topic in Cosmere Discussion
A huge nod to stormlight healing is important, however I don't think 1st oath is nearly what we see most of those healing feats used at. I have a feeling that stormlight healing at 1st oath opens up a lot of 1 shot options for opponents to take advantage of. I would say a coinshot would have a good chance against a 1st oath of most orders. A face full of coins like we see Wayne eat in TLM would be far more than what 1st ideal healing would handle. That said. Steel compounding is obvious. If you can get around the CC with speed then I would say F-steel A-chromium would make short work of all radiants at 1st heightening. They aren't efficient at using stormlight and have no 1 shot weapon. Pewter suffers from being grounded against high CC builds... but 1st ideal healing vs pewter? I would bet on pewter in the long run. Healing with stormlight at lower oaths is just too slow and too inefficient. -

Another aetherbound thought
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Is this a form of savantism? Or just a natural downside to using them? Do all of the Primal Aethers used for Aetherbound work in similar fashion? Is Twinsoul at similar risk? -

Does this consume water at all? Or does it just drain when used and needed? -

Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to The Sibling's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah. Stormlight is just too broad for a single metal user to do much against. Any surge that allows for easy CC against a non steel pusher is gg. -
So I have seen evidence that the Aethers are able to communicate with their Aetherbound agents directly. Twinsoul has used his aether to spy and peak into rooms or around doorways and such. How much control do you think an aether can have? We see pewter burners as well as surgebinders instinctively use their abilities to protect or heal themselves without needing to even be aware that they are doing it. Even in awakening at the 6th heightening there is a boon that is to instinctively awaken. Do you think there could be an instinctive use for roseite where it forms to shield the user from harm? Could the Aether that they are bound to be constantly watching their aetherbound and spread forth to protect them when harm is near? This would obviously come at a cost in terms of water consumption and the aetherbound could potentially suffer adverse effects of this... but at the same time it seems the aether is quite aware of what their servants are going through and what is happening. It would seem twinsoul has a much greater connection to his aether than harmony does to Wax and perhaps to a level near that of a spren bond (although I haven't seen any spren directly shield their radiant yet but that is what stormlight healing if for anyway).

Finally making my way through TLM
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay so 50 breaths to make the 1st heightening. 50 drabs. In this case you are making more than 50 people worse than drabs. Granted a person starting with more or less investiture doesn't say a whole lot about what you are getting no matter what the end result is. And it is possible that not all innate investiture is the same. Biochromatic breath could still be a much different type of investiture than whatever is being spiked out of these people. BTW I just listened to the roseite golem scene... that is so epic. I have been torn between which aethers I like just off of my own headcannon and what the coppermind offers. I see so many more possibilities after hearing that part of the book. I am curious if a roseite aetherbound could almost weave the invested crystal into and through their body. Almost infusing skin and bone with it. And if that would offer resistance to shardblade cuts. -

Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am curious about what others think a full spike of just investiture would do? Similar enhancements to heightening? If you had 3 spikes filled with the innate investiture of 60-90 people on Scadrial what would that do for a person even if they aren't metalborn at all? -

I am nearly done with 114. That is where I left it. The hours were dreadfully rough before that. I looked and have only 7 hours left of that book... I guess I need to hit it again after TLM. -

Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Not sure if this is the part you are talking about. But I just heard of the spikes that don't kill. The idea that you can steal pure investiture from a person. I don't know how exactly that will play out. I think it makes nicrosil compounding more dangerous perhaps. -
Possible 5th heightening interaction
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So it is a constant stream of investiture to maintain any aether. It isn't an "add water until you are holding a roseite knife and then use it for free until you don't need it". It is constant water feeding from the time you create the knife until you let it go? -

Okay so the Kandra on Roshar is not working for Harmony. I wonder if there is a spike allowing it to stay hidden from harmony or if he is simply allowing it to operate elsewhere without getting information from it. Yeah I am a sucker for spoilers. I still have never watched the 5th season of Chuck because I read the wiki for it as I was watching season 4 and decided I liked the season 4 ending more haha. I love seeing how a story unfolds. Mistborn was really neat because I was able to learn about the magic as it was happening but I really feel like other books in the cosmere have not offered the pacing I want and in my search for the world building I ignore the story until I get to it casually. I just want the rules to the systems (a large part of why I got the MAG. I just want a ruleset for headcannon). Also, and this probably makes me sound like a pitiful sap, for pen and paper adventures I like to incorporate the characters in the world into the rpg. A stupid hold up is knowing how character story arcs progress as it wrecks the headcannon I am making. Once I move on from a side story of my own making I like to turn on the books again. SA suffers from insane stat bloat. The characters are growing so powerful at such a rate that keeping them in line with other worlds really wrecks a ton of the joy I get from picturing other stories in the cosemere. The power creep is just so high that SA is wrecking the cosmere for me. The idea of mass produced aluminum does help in that aspect and potential mashing up of systems makes up for it. I think that after TLM I will be in a better headspace to move on with stormlight. It just feels out of place in the cosmere. I totally get that it is a different world entirely and it is supposed to feel the most alien to ours... but the power creep of living plate and infinite stormlight and healing that would make Miles blush just saps the magic out of the rest of the cosmere for me. (Part of why I am trying to stay retired from vs battle threads). -
Possible 5th heightening interaction

Obviously I haven't made it all the way through to the suit of armor. Just read that it can happen. If it is drawing on water to aid in movement at all that is where I think the 2 systems would compliment one another. Perhaps you could use the awakened clothing to help maneuverability more than powering it on water alone. The awakened items are net neutral and you always get your breaths back. If you can use awakened anything to help drive your aethers to conserve water then it is a win win. As for color. He is shown to be able to make some aspects of the aether darker than others and can choose that. I am okay with it always being red. I'm just saying it appears that he could draw more color out of it. I don't know if darker roseite costs more water to produce than nearly clear roseite. If it does then that is weaker. All that said I know it would not be the most efficient ways of doing things... but how efficient is it to rely on purified dor either? Obviously there are limits. This is just a speculative combination that I think synergizes well both directions. Being able to create the color needed to awaken things is a small thing but in terms of someone who wants to rely on the commodities of the world as little as possible... having a couple thousand breaths and the ability to be aetherbound could be used to compliment eachother for a good while. In other thought processes. Would F gold healing the effects of dehydration be a substitution for bendalloy? Or would it be like healing suffocation and burn through those stores way faster until you rehydrate? -

I am in the hideout now. I heard mention of roshar and relistned to it. They were talking about a bunch of the systems and how the perpendicularities are a dangerous way to travel to some more than others. I thought I had read something about a kandra already being on roshar... I find it interesting that harmony wants to branch out more and is sending Melaan right now. Is the Kandra on Roshar not reporting to Harmony or was it just a beta test for his outreach programs in the future? I cheated and already read the kelsier conversation with Harmony. I know I suck for being so okay with spoilers. I had not seen that wob yet. As for SA. I know. I have like 11 hrs left of oathbringer and I know it is going to get better. But it is hard after 30 hrs of snoozefest. -
Who would win, the Ultimate Cosmere free for all.
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay. I won't use the whole 1000 points but on a scale of fun characters I would want to play or see. In an attempt to make a fun strong character in as few points as possible. Midnight aetherbound 24pt Kandra with aluminum truebody 5pt Medallion with F steel and F bendalloy. 24pt That is 53pts for a pretty solid base offering functional immortality that can only be further enhanced with breaths. Titrate your heightenings to whatever point value you want to end on. For a <500 pt build you could have 9th heightening with this as well. Go to Roshar. Awaken a blade and some light armor for yourself. Make lifeless larkin for leeching and a pack or more of lifeless whitespines as well. With the remaining points if you want to bump all the way to 1000 I would probably toss on lerasium and a bag of atium as well. -

Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Do you get to choose what you use for your aetherbinding? Or does it simply feed off of what is there? I imagine it is a pseudo hack to use dor for it as well? Either way. The interaction I envision is simply using breath to pad yourself so that you don't die from dehydration... still use water as much as you can but lean on the breath to save yourself from running dry before danger level is low enough to drop the aether. As for color... if color + breath is needed to awaken you can use breath to do what it needs and use a bit of hydration to create the color you would need to awaken a thing. I don't think that the color of the roseite makes a difference in its effectiveness however this interaction is a big deal. We know you can drain color from gems but color doesn't seem to matter for roseite as much as it does for gems... at least from what I have read so far. Gearing up for battle could be using hydration to create your suit of roseite armor... then awakening your clothing underneath for strength benefits draining the color directly from the roseite and then going forward allowing your hydration to be used first and if the fight continues tapping into your breaths afterwords. I think a single breath can likely power aether far longer than a days worth of water drinking. Not only that but I don't think there would be a counting ticker. Some breaths are more than others. I think your breaths would just become less and less invested until it goes to zero. I think the interaction would be more like a debit card taking what it needs from the lump sum until its over than an ATM withdrawal taking it out 20$ at a time even if you only need to spend 1.
