Nah, in the psych lab about to run a participant TPBM is hungry
-
We as a staff team have been observing the comments in intro posts lately, and we want to lay out some guidelines of what should and shouldn't belong in responses to people's introduction posts. Lately, responses to new people's intro posts tend to be quickly flooded with inside jokes and RP. Half the time, the new person is basically being ignored while other users joke around with each other. While fun to you, this type of response can push people away instead of making them feel welcome. While there's a lot of young folks on the Shard, you don't know if the person joining is 14 or 40, or whether they're at all interested in games/RP, or whether they're just here to discuss the books. When joining a new group, it's not fun to be instantly met with a bunch of inside jokes and references you don't understand. Instead, it just makes you feel like you don't belong, or that it might be hard to fit in with everyone. We want this site to be as welcoming to everyone as possible, so that means asking normal questions that everyone will understand, and saving the RP for forum games/RP topics. If you want to mess around and do RP, there are other places for that. Act as if you were meeting a new fan in person, where you likely would not do any of this. As a general rule, some things to avoid: Meme/inside joke questions like "what color are your bones?" or "where is your soul?" or "would you like a cookie?" Hyper specific questions like "Have you watched/read [specific piece of media] Ignoring the original poster and just messing around with each other All caps shouting Instead, you can ask questions that anyone can answer, like How did they first get into reading Sanderson? Which Cosmere book is their favorite/least favorite? Characters? What non-Sanderson media do they like? What are their hobbies? Things like which Cosmere characters/places they'd want to meet/visit If you have questions about what kinds of behaviors aren't suitable for intro posts, you're welcome to either ask them here or to PM me.

I wish TPBM has reported a scam bot before
-
No worries! Ain't a big deal. I'd recommend reading through the policies and code of conduct though, as I'd recommend all new people do

I'm going to uncreatively name mine after my favorite of my taynix plushies xD Love my hyperslug, Pookie. Tho the teal/pink ones sound the cutest, so maybe one of them, I'd name it Cotton Candy

Crazy Physical Ability Recommendations Please
#1 Taln Fan replied to Kansas Stormcursed's topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure that's what it's called when people PM me or ping me -
Please don't worry about rep, it's not a competition. You're very new here, and thus it's natural for you to not have a ton of rep, and rep really doesn't matter that much xD Also, please avoid double posting twice in a row, as it's against our Forum Policies.

Attending Dragonsteel Nexus as a minor?
#1 Taln Fan replied to Kansas Stormcursed's topic in Events and Signings
They added a younger folks session that was 16+, tho they ended up cancelling that session cuz not enough people signed up for it. They moved the teens to a diff session tho. Might still have slots, but idk. If so, tickets are $225 -
Welcome to the Shard! Skyward 1's probably my favorite Sanderson book. Who's your favorite character so far?
-
Whaaaaaaaaaat? No idea what you mean
-
What am I, chopped liver? And I'll tell Chaos you called him insane
-
Not like I'm patrolling here, eager to gleefully catch someone for the sake of causing human suffering xD
-
I can still help the best I can, yes, but talking to an actual therapist is better. Cat picture is appreciated, tho try not to double post in the future I didn't even know there was a rep limit for a while, I've never once ran out of rep xD

As someone who has done mini therapy sessions with participants in lab, and who studies this, I strongly encourage you to be as open and honest as possible with your therapist. They can't help to their fullest ability if they don't have all the pieces. It's like giving them a puzzle to piece together but giving them half the pieces. I understand that it's hard to open up, but know that they've heard it all, and aren't going to judge you. If possible, switch therapists! There are tons of diff therapists with different personalities and therapy styles, and plenty of people don't find a good match for them on the first try. It's totally normal to try a few different therapists before settling on one that works with you well. Technically I'm training to be a psychiatrist, which is slightly different. I am in no way licensed to provide therapy, and I'd recommend talking to your actual therapist, or someone in-person. Tho I'm ofc always down to listen to whatever and help as best I can

Welcome to the Shard! Just a heads up, I've moved this topic to the Mistborn forum. General Brandon Discussion is more for spoiler free general discussion pertaining to Brandon/the Cosmere, rather than spoilery book discussion. If something might have spoilers, (like info about the Kandra, or the Lord Ruler's rule ending) then it's better off in one of the book discussion forums.

I don't believe so, but I'd recommend checking out the Cosmere RPG discord. There are lots of experienced players/GMs there who might have better answers/advice for you

Ok, let me put it this way. The spirit of the law is basically "Are you contributing anything of substance" Just saying "I win" or "hi" or "meap" for example: They don't add anything of meaning. ??? is fine, since it has substance in that you're asking for clarification. But you could also be more specific and ask what someone means instead of just ??? I'm not gonna police down to the finest detail of what the definition of "one word" is. Just use your common sense to think "Does what I'm posting have any substance to it and add anything to the conversation?". As a general rule, one word posts almost never do. Hope that makes sense - if not, lmk

Ohhh right. I blame my brain being fried from organic chemistry
-
May be good to find more challenging classes for you then xD That way your brain gets more of a workout Ofc you're free to do as you please, I'm just giving my personal recommendation Also hi BORED, I'm Will
-
Have you considered... doing the thing you go to school to do? If you get a full ride or hefty scholarship to college you'll sit back and be glad you payed attention in class and worked hard. It's also disrespectful of your teacher's time and effort (Ik I sound like a boring adult, but doesn't make it less true) What's wrong with the muppets?
-
I'm not in Canada though, am I?
-
Actually ya'll spell it wrong in my mind. I spell it after Meap, the character from Phineas and Ferb who only speaks by saying the word "meap" Tho Beaker from Sesame Street says it "meep", so it's also an acceptable spelling
-
Ah, but if you read what I quoted, you'll notice the line: Which "meap meap meap" would fall under If you want to meap around, you're welcome to do so all you want in PMs as long as the other person is fine with it. (Or if you're meaping along with another message)
-
Unfortunately, me being a good mod means reminding ya'll of this topic's rules (as a general reminder to everyone, not just Shatter)
-
Ah gotcha. I'm a good law abiding mod though (Tho ofc I encourage anyone to call me out if I'm not) It is kinda wild that there's 27 whole pages of hidden messages, tho I guess it makes sense with how many posts there are in here
