  1. This isn't something that really merits it's own post. Status updates are probably better for things like this, or one of the pre-existing threads that people already tend to chat in.
  2. Welcome to the Shard! I'm a huge Stardew fan; Who's your favorite marriage candidate?
  3. I've moved this topic to the Cytoverse forum, since it pertains to Skyward. As the General Brandon Discussion forum's description says: Please be sure to read forum descriptions before posting
  4. Yeah I get it's not as simple as it sounds to just call CPS or the cops about it. But if you want to help your siblings; they're potential in danger if your parents are acting like this and risking their (and your) life because of their weird thing against going to the doctor. Ofc, I'm just guy on the internet who doesn't know the whole context, but from what I understand, something dangerous could happen to one of your siblings after you move out, and your parents might not get them to the care they need, which is child endangerment
  5. .... what??? If you think you've likely broken something you should always get an x-ray at least, it could be broken bad enough that it might not heal properly or at all on its own. That's so dumb That honestly is probably grounds for child protective services to get involved in some way, that's not okay
  6. Nope, I'll never take another one again TPBM has a high school diploma
  7. I'm not sure what it's alluding to, but I appreciate the brevity. 5/10, but might be higher if I understood it

  10. Do people read these? Ig we'll find out! But I wanted to share some recent thoughts and discoveries I've made recently, and hopefully they'll be helpful. I know we've all heard the lecture time and time again about how bad phones are, how they're rotting our brains, etc, etc. I think we can all acknowledge that spending 2 hours scrolling on a phone or watching youtube on your computer is a waste of time. But almost as dangerous is the smaller, shorter uses. Checking your phone in the morning, or while you're walking somewhere, or even going to the bathroom. There's so many small snatches of inactivity or silence throughout our day that we are desperate to fill with something. Sometimes phone use, or music, or the Shard, or whatever it is. But these brief moments of silence are important, and we shouldn't rush to fill them. The past month or so, I've started walking to all my classes with my phone and earbuds in my backpack, where I can't easily access them. In doing so, I'm only left with my thoughts, and nature. I find myself appreciating more little things, like the big tree I walk by every day on my way to breakfast. But most importantly, it gives me more time with my thoughts. Oftentimes, a lot of our stress and anxiety is generated by suppressed emotions, and we often suppress them simply because we never take time to process and think, because we always fill up those spare moments with something else. Ofc, oftentimes we don't want to stop and think, and so phones (or whatever it is for you) become an easy avenue of escape, to scroll mindlessly instead of facing our own problems and emotions. Sometimes, when life isn't going well, we don't want to reflect on what we're feeling and what's bothering us, because it's painful. But if you can't identify what's causing you emotional and mental stress, you'll never find a way to fix those problems. Not cope with them, but fix them. Yes, having a dedicated time for meditation is good, and I encourage that as well. But I encourage you to take small moments throughout the day to really think and reflect, to analyze yourself honestly and objectively. Think about what's causing you the most stress emotionally and mentally, and think about what practical, concrete steps you can take to either change that cause, or change your response to it. * One more note on music (maybe I'll make another post about it more in depth about its Psychological effects), it's not inherently bad. Music can be both helpful and harmful to us. But if you're the type of person to listen to music all the time, take some time to just have silence, and really think. If you can drive, take some drives without listening to anything, as that's a great time for thinking. ** If you don't have a phone, I get this may not be as applicable to you. But it's still good to take time to really think. And also appreciate not having a phone, however cool it may seem
  11. There's similarities, though some distances as well. I think that one of the hardest parts of long distance is that the majority of your conversations aren't face to face. And when you're not face to face, it's harder to communicate, and harder to truly get to know someone and tell if they're being genuine. So if you start out in-person, you can build a more close relationship easier because you see each other face-to-face more, and then you already know your partner well by the time you're far away. If you start long distance it's just harder to truly get to know someone and have as intimate of conversations over text or call. Not impossible, just harder.
  12. Probably not, church is boutta start xD TPBM slept well last night
  13. Nah, 6:45 every morning TPBM is excited for the summer
  14. Nope TPBM gets up early
  15. Some people certainly do, though I don't think they're inherently bad. Just harder to make work.
  16. That's okay, and that's normal. If we could envision the bright future while we're depressed, it wouldn't suck so much. That's one of the things that differentiates depression from normal sadness. You don't have to envision it rn, just know that it's there, even if you can't se it or imagine it. Thing is, there'll always be sad things. People die, and that's a sad part of life. There won't ever be a point where you're happy every hour of every day. But that doesn't mean you won't generally be happier later on. When there's not something big going on, you'll be happier, and when something does happen, you'll be able to handle it better and return to your normal state faster. And even if colleges don't take you and you end up in fast food, (which I doubt), that doesn't determine your happiness. As I said to Hoid Slayer: Life isn't about college, job, and retiring. Even if you look a non-religious standpoint, helping others and making the world better is a much more important aspect of life. And you can do that no matter your job.So no matter where you end up, you'll find purpose. Even if you have no idea what that purpose is rn, you will. And I get that it hurts. But keep trying, it'll be worth it. Part of the problem is that in high school, people tend to be very immature, and can (intentionally or not) horribly hurt their friends. But as you mature, others will as well.
  17. I get that it feels that way rn, I really do. But I promise you that later on, when things are better, you'll look back and think that they were worth it. It's not just a thin threadbare hope. Things do get better, even if you don't see how they could improve rn. Spoilered for length
  18. It's true that when we feel awful, we wish we couldn't feel anything. But we feel good things too, and if we couldn't feel anything then we can't have good times with friends either. Reminds me of an AJR lyric:
  19. I suppose that's possible, though from the tone I think Hoid's being serious about him being human, since he says "all joking aside".
  20. They already answered that in their first post btw
  21. Welcome to the Shard! What's your least favorite book and least favorite character?
  22. Please note that double posting like this is not allowed, per our Forum Policy. Please just edit your previous message in the future if no one has posted since your last post.
