  1. Oh yeah, you're definitely right about war in that aspect. Roshar has the philosophy, development, and strategy of the greatest militaries in our own history. But it doesn't take a genius to drop high-powered explosives, or to fire some cannons. I mean, modern war strategy is a contest of who can shoot the most explosives from the farthest away. I think that Scadrial will progress at the same rate as Roshar, but they're already further along and they have a (semi) unified government. And they haven't even fully explored the minimum of their potentional. So when all these books crossover, I think Scadrial and Roshar will probably be very powerful in Cosmere terms, the more Traditional Science guys and the Magical Science guys. And thanks for the example, I'm not exactly well-versed in that particular field of science and I didn't realize it for what it was.
  2. I'm telling you, they don't soulcast aluminum. And I'd agree with you on the Realmatic Theory and Medicine for Roshar, but warfare? Really? Ettmetal, Dreadnaughts, and the like can "easily" take down Radiants. And it's not that big of a jump from airships to fighters, which would rip apart the flying stuff that Roshar has. (Although, admittedly, Windrunners and Skybreakers are pretty good and you'd need something Korean War era before you could reliably take them and win in a fight. Maybe Metalborn pilots?) Also, can you give me an example of when they're theorizing on quantum theory?
  3. A tall guy comes in and smiles sheepishly in the middle of the speech
  4. They're literally getting their aluminum from the sky. (Roshar) If they wanted to, the entire crew could pour water on their engine and the Windrunner's dead. And I know this is. very theoretical, but Harmony said they should have the radio at this point. And they have pre-dreadnaught warships. Meaning that they'd have the technology that accompanied it, meaning that they have machine guns, they'll get heavy ordnance soon, and with that, rifles with better reloading time, stronger sidearms, and most importantly, even better Bauxtite refining techniques meaning that they have better guns and more aluminum. Now, earlier, someone mentioned that plate is weakened by high pressure attacks. The guns they had in this era were fairly strong, meaning that if you had someone with good aim (a tineye, maybe?) then you could put a bunch of rounds through a Radiant.
  5. The Firsts were older and retired by the time of Final Empire, and the Seconds were approaching their level of age, so by AoL, they'd be ooolllldd
  6. The only time I've heard of Investiture in our world was the Investiture crisis between the HRE Emperor and the Pope. And I think Investiture is the outcome of a Shard's effect on a Shardworld.
  7. I would argue that point. The aerial advantage that Scadrial has with the airships against the bridge 1 is huge. But yes, I am counting that "century" in terms of earth technology, but Harmony hinted that they were supposed to have heavier-than-air flight and radio at this time. But this is a one-on-one fight, and I'm referring to Scadrian aluminum refining technologies and the allomantic grenade. Also, Wax and Sazed said "tenfold" when they were talking about compounding. But even without a hard number, the speed that a steel compounder has is incredible.
  8. For a compounder, 10x speed is nothing. They move so fast they might as well be teleporting. The Mistborn Adventure Game (Non-Cannonical, I know) measures Feruchemacy by charges. Compunders burn 1 charge and turn it into ten. A small metalmind stores 10 charges. If we were to use a system somewhat like that (Sazed and Wax said that Compounder drew 10x what they stored) then that means that by eating and burning a ring with steel stored in it, they would run with the equivalent of a steel bracer. The Coppermind says that a Steel Compounder could kill themselves by running to fast and dying to air resistance. Something I think that we're not considering is that Scadrial is centuries ahead of Roshar. The sole technological advancement that Roshar has that Scadrial doesn't is the Fabrial, which is half-magical anyways. And then we have the Southern Scadrians, who have powerful explosives and airships. And Aluminum refinement is kicking into high gear in Scadrial, meaning that it's not beyond believability that the Allomancer or Feruchemist has enough aluminum where they could block the Shardblades. Also, Ettmetal. Brandon said that theoretically, using an Ettmetal bomb, you could replicate Surgebinding or something. These sort of advantages-the sneaky, annoying, clever person that seems to be the Scadrian archetype (Vin, Kelsier, Wax, Wayne, et cetera) has a good chance against the big, strong, honorable, straightforward Rosharan (Adolin, Kaladin, Dalinar, that Thaylen Prince)
  9. To my understanding, healing with any form of Investiture is repairing physical injury to what the soul was previously. The only time I've read of mental disorientation being fixed or lessened by Investiture was when a Tineye or Mistborn flared Tin to feel pain so that they could refocus, or when a Pewterarm steadied themselves. I don't think F-Gold counts because Wayne cleansing his drunkenness his body was cleansing a "poison." So Stormlight heals your body according to your Spiritweb, meaning that the Stormlight wouldn't heal that nausea. Like Tamriel said above, Vasher, who was far outclassed by Denth and facing a number of other disadvantages, killed Denth by giving him breath in the same way he killed Aresteel, who was even better than Denth.
  10. I am trying very hard to forget the image of an army of Nightmaws attacking on land and Deepwalkers killing any who try to run...
  11. I have a dnd character and none of the guys in my party can draw too well... Summer Eladrin who is tall and rugged, tends to be intimidating. Fights with duel swords, both gold and glowing with blue runes on them that I envisioned as similar to Alethi. Golden-Brown Hair, Bronze-Gold skin, glowing golden-amber eyes. The intimidating parts and other character traits aren't necessary, but the general color theme and swords are the important part. Thanks!
  12. Great theory, well put together, and now my brain is trying to figure out how mobs fit in. Are they like Therondy Shades? Or are they Invested beings? And like Frustration said, Beacons, Netherstars, Ender stuff and the like would all likely be Investiture. I think that the Nether fits nicely to the Cognitive Realm (roughly corresponding to the Overworld), while the Ender could be the Spiritual maybe?
  13. BoM Spoilers: HoA Spoilers: I think that this idea is really great, but if you look at the Coppermind early Terris looks really weird. I guess you could count in the font and stuff, but Steel and Iron as well as a couple of others look nothing like a human. As you get closer to the Final Empire it looks more like a human, which I guess you could account to the increased knowledge of Hemalurgy, but that reposes the question about the Early Terris and Intermediary scripts. But knowledge of Hemalurgy can also account for the more modern style of the post-Catacandre script. The Terris Alphabet looks a little like a block stick figure human, but what really supports your theory is the Ancient Terris symbol for Tin. It looks like a caveman human. I have to say though, I think that the Final Empire one is that looks the most like Hemalurgic bind points because as far as we know that's when it took off, and then the post-Catacandre world adapted Final Empire symbols, while the Final Empire emphasized the Hemalurgic ideas after adapting the old language. I guess you could compare it to a situation where instead of scripts evolving from pictures to letters, letters became pictures which went back to letters that retained a bit of the symbols. Honestly, I think that it's too early to develop any actual theory on this.
  14. A windrunner can't catch or run away from a Fullborn with F-Steel, F-Iron, and A-Steel and A-Pewter, but a Stoneward or Bondsmith would have a chance, while an Eslsecaller would need to be extremely lucky, and the Fullborn can simply burn Atium/Electrum or tap Zinc to counter almost any attack. But besides that, yeah, Stoneward, Bondsmith, or Elantrian. probably has the best chance.
  15. I think that because they're highly invested, they'd be harder to break with invested weapons like the Shardblade. However, Adolin, a rather strong guy, is restrained and wrapped up by Vasher using awakened cloth. So Greater Awakening would allow the God King to create Golems with Aluminum, Steel, and Bone and using Cloth to restrain an enemy. The Steel and Bone is nessacary because I think that due to the nature of Aluminum-a counter to almost all known magic systems- it wouldn't be Awakenable.
  16. Alright, so I've seen a bunch of "Mistborn vs Knight Radiant" and Jedi vs Knight Radiant, and because I haven't the time nor patience to read through all of those, I'm going to pose a question that's likely already been answered. Let's say that a bunch of the "strongest" investiture users across the Cosmere had a a fight. I'm not counting any Yolen natives cause all the ones we know of we don't know a lot about their magic and a lot of them are OP. So: Here we go. Representing Scadrial, it's the Fullborn, from Roshar the 5th Ideal Knight Radiant (Pick the Order you think is the best in a fight), The God King from Nalthis, let's say an Elantrian as good as Raoden, a Sand Master who can control, let's say, 30 threads. I'm not gonna count shades cause most of these guys can outrun or kill a shade with relative ease, and First of the Sun doesn't have a lot of physically manifested Investiture besides the mind-reading guys, who aren't human and I feel they can also be killed with relative ease, so we'll just go with the above. God-King, Fullborn, 5th Ideal Radiant of any Order, Sand Master with 30 Threads and Salitrification, Elantrian. And they're fighting in a place where Elantrian magic is strong and the Sand Master has enough Taldain Sand for years. Edit: Nightmaws and Deepstalkers as well as Shades are included
  17. Honestly, I think that Feruchemists and Fullborn have the best chance, with Mistborn having a conditional win. Let's think about it: Like it's been said earlier, a Feruchemists chance hinges on F-Steel, with F-Gold healing even Shardblade wounds*. For them, they need to win fast, meaning they get stupidly big and strong and can hit hard with F-Iron. However, if the Radiant is 3rd Ideal or higher, and if they are Stonewards, have access to Gravitation or Abrasion, or have Transportation, it will be very, very hard for the Feruchemist to win. Against Orders that don't have one of these, they have a chance. The fact that is that even with F-Gold, they need a lot of it and F-Steel and F-Pewter and F-Iron, so they need to win fast and make sure they hit a bunch without them getting hit a bunch. Mistborn: Their win hinges on usage of steel and iron to fly around and retreat from their enemy, using ranged tactics-something Radiants don't often have access to. Against Gravitation-Users, this advantage is weakened but a Mistborn generally has more control closer to the ground then a Flyer with Lashings. And the Mistborn's biggest advantage: no matter the ideal of a Radiant, unless they're a stupidly good fighter (Vin's level, Kaladin fights like an incredibly good soldier, she fights like a demon), Atium will trump almost all advantages. Death by a thousand cuts style, but the Radiant only needs one good hit. So, for a Mistborn, it depends on skill and Atium whereas the Radiant needs skill and it gets easier if they have access to Gravitation or Abrasion. Fullborn: Game over. Compunding gold means that nothing that the Radiants does can hurt them, and Compunding Pewter means that they can literally punch through the Radiants armor. If they can find a nice sturdy wall or rock or something, they can push a coin onto it, then push off the rock, compound steel, iron, and pewter and you'll have a horizontal meteor that can change direction easily. A Fullborn is one step below a god, able to match the God-King in combat. Speaking of which, let's talk about the God-King briefly. The God-King has the Tenth awakening, and the big factors in a fight are: Functional Immmortality, Instinctive Awakening, Greater Awakening, Audible Command, and Mental Command, all of which would allow the God King to awaken a Aluminum Monstrosity that could rip the Radiant to shreds while the God-King could tie up the Radiant. TL;DR: Feruchemists rely on reserved Strength, Weight, Speed, and Healing, Mistborn rely on skill and Atium, the Radiant will need every scrap of skill, luck, and Stormlight they can manage and will still most likely lose, the God King also has a good chance via awakening aluminum constructs with bones or stone or metal or something in them.
  18. Hey, I have a question for y'all. I just looked at DoomStick's page and I realized that he plays Civ! First person besides myself, my dad, and the friends I know who I forced into it to play! So, who else plays Civ or EU4 or HOI4 or CK3 or Humankind or one of those other nerdy Grand Strategy or turn-based 4x games?

Y'know I just realized the Wandering Wizard plays Civ too.

Yes I play Civ VI and I occasionally force my family to play with me, well my family besides my dad and brother.

  19. "No, they're slaves!" When your brother proclaims hatred for all literature and a love of the Percy Jackson movies.
  20. Argh bloody rusting storms I flaming hate bloody jetlag so storming much.

  21. Nice. I absolutely love that game.

  23. Hey y'all, I was dead for a hot minute...or a bunch of em, I guess, but I'm kinda half back now. Like Fuzz. I was doing this thought experiment last night, and I was trying to figure out how various people/factions from across different fantasy worlds would fit into the 16 shards of Adolanisium, so any help on coming up with people/factions is appreciative. Survival and Wisdom I'm counting as Shards and all the other named but unknown shards count too. Thanks!

      Hiya! Welcome back!

And I know very little about the Cosmere's overarching lore (compared to the other Sharders, anyways) so my thoughts probably aren't the most helpful

Not necessarily Cosmere, just anything. And any thoughts is more helpful than my current lack of thoughts.
