The incredible Hulk
An incredible disaster.
I love the first half to death. Edward Norton was brilliant as Bruce Banner. I prefer him as the Hulk over Mark Ruffalo in the solo movies. I prefer Ruffalo in the group movies a bit more, tho I miss Norton.
I watched the movie a few days ago and haven't really had the time to talk about it.
There were things I didn't like, looking at you, Betty, final fight. But, over all, it was a good movie. I love a lot of it, except for the weird ending. It suffered from a power struggle between the director and Norton, from what I've heard. Which makes sense, considering how much of a disaster some of it was. I think that it could've been better, but, over all, a really enjoyable move that showcases some of what Marvel has to offer and the wonderfully compelling dark character that Hulk could've been. the MCU really overlooked the brilliant way they could've made him a wonderfully dark character. They could've made him soooo relatable, soooo deep in depression, soooooooo leaning into the science side with a truly amazing backstory...
Hulk is one of those characters that we don't really get a good story about, at least not as of late. We get him joking around as other marvel characters are. The darkest we got past Incredible Hulk was him saying in Avengers, "I shot myself in the mouth, the other guy spat it out." And nothing more. I don't know what you guys think, but Norton's Bruce Banner was amazing. The way Hulk looked was so much better than what we have in the MCU right now.
Doggo was the best!
Now to talk about people other than Bruce.
Betty Ross *groan*, my least favorite character in this movie and maybe in marvel. Though, it really isn't the character's fault for that. The actress, tho she's great as Arwen, does not work well in this movie. It's like they were really trying for a strong female character, but they kept leaning into the maiden in distress thing. It was a mess. Then there was the way she was delivering the dialogue. It made already odd dialogue into dry, boring, Padme in AotC style talking. I just can't.
General Ross was a good character, tho I wished we could've gotten more on why he's going after the Hulk.
Emil Blonsky... Emil was so good for 3 quarters of the movie, then he just randomly decided "Eh, ima go kill Hulk." I want more backstory for why he's doing this. Maybe we could've had a thing where he was a kid and wanted to kill monsters, or maybe a sequence of that he decided to be come a fighter because his parents were killed and he pretended to kill those people, thinking of them as big monsters. That could've been incorporated to when he's sick. So, right before he starts to heal, he has a flashback to when his parents died mixing with when the Hulk was attacking.
Overall, I like the movie. I like what they tried to do, I like Norton's Banner to death. I would rate it about 6.5-7/10 A better movie than some of what we've gotten in Phase Four (looking at you, Black Widow). If Norton makes a reappearance as the Hulk in a multiverse scenario, I would be all for it. A multiverse sequel to the Incredible Hulk would be great, if the multiverse was only in it at the end.
Any of you guys notice that the cabin at the end is the same one at the end of wandavision?
