  1. Always. Do you have any feelings?
  2. Something happened. 160
  3. Gets stew made by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (it's not very good) Inserts Yalb
  4. Just how many hours of sleep did you get last night? Mamma mia!
  5. Szeth pointed out that it's spelled "conga line" and "volcanoes."
  6. I'm with you on that, but I think everyone else's character arcs came to a satisfying conclusion. Care to elaborate?
  7. Since Era 2 was a bit of a last-minute addition to the Mistborn arc, I was expecting there to be a lot of missing pieces and loose ends. I think from a character perspective, it totally worked as a grand finale, and in the big picture: I think Era 2 is meant to be self-contained, but lay the groundwork for Era 3 in a way that makes it hard to tie up all the loose ends. On the other hand:
  8. Hey just fyi: I'll be available to run a game during Christmas and New Years' weeks, but not before that. I'm currently in the midst of NaNoWriMo and idk how reliable I'll be with school.
  9. Oh my Harmony the n's are multiplying

  10. I think Saze lied because he didn't want Kelsier specifically to have a means of generating lerasium. Kelsier wouldn't use it for good and Harmony knows that. It's also probably about his policy of noninterference. I don't think there's more to it than that.
  11. Hey hey! I wanted to issue a quick apology for disappearing. The Shard just became a little too much of a stressful commitment for me and less a place to relax. That said, I should have formally left instead of just fading off into the distance. After I read tLM, I realized I miss this community. I can't say yet whether I'm back permanently or not. But yeah! Hello again, everyone. I see the colorful signature thing is still happening. Heck yeah :D

He's baaaaaaaack! I hope you enjoy your stay at the Cosmere® Hotel!

  12. Why did this book have to come out in November? October would have been fine. December would have been great! But this month, I had to juggle homework, writing 1,667 words every day, and working to put out the second issue of my school's newspaper since COVID with a team of only four people. Thus, I didn't finish The Lost Metal until way too late last night. But Rust and Ruin, it was amazing. I have some speculations and theories, but first I want to break down what I liked and didn't like about this book. (There isn't much in the latter category.) As a disclaimer, I haven't been exposed to any WOB's for the past eight-ish months. What I liked and expected The chemistry scene! I had a big grin on my face the entire time. I've heard a lot of complaints about Brandon Sanderson's books that are like "I don't care about how fabrials/metallic arts/Investiture works, just get on with the plot already!" But that's my favorite thing about them and those people can go eat crem. The well-written conclusion to Steris and Marasi's character arcs. Steris finally got the recognition she's continually earned throughout the series, and Marasi had a very (Spoilers for the Green Bone Saga) I'm still a bit salty that she didn't join the Ghostbloods because now we won't get that sweet sweet worldhopping action. But it was the right decision; Kelsier is kind of a self-centered narcissistic butt. We finally got some Kel page time! Like I said, he's a self-centered narcissistic butt, but he's an interesting self-centered narcissistic butt. I can't wait to see how his conflict with Sazed develops in Era 3 (and hopefully the back half of Stormlight???). What I liked and didn't expect The time skip! It just fit perfectly within everyone's personal arcs and the story as a whole. A nuclear fission analog?????? I was expecting technological advancements, but this is serious. If ettmetal and trellium / harmonium and bavadinium / sazium and bavadium / whatever you want to call them react in such an explosive way, what does that mean for the other god metals? If all of them react in the same way with all of the others, that could have serious and terrible repercussions for the entire cosmere. The Community reveal. Sanderson turned one of the least interesting loose ends from the first book into something that made me literally gasp when I read it. Aetherbound! Aetherbound aetherbound aetherbound. It's a great word. Aetherbound What I didn't like and expected Wayne's heroic sacrifice. I know Sanderson's a bit of a sucker for killing of main characters at the end of a series (a statement I was going to justify with examples but then realized that there were only three series he's actually finished, if you don't count White Sand or Legion; Mistborn Era 1 is an example of this, it's zigzagged with Alcatraz, and I refuse to finish the Reckoners). But this felt forced to me. It felt like Sando was writing Wayne off for shock value instead of providing a satisfying resolution to his arc. If he hadn't died, he could have gone back to Elendel and sought out some actual closure with Allriandre, and took the time to move on from MeLaan. Those are both tricky things to write, and I realize that, but killing Wayne off felt like the easy way out. What I didn't like and didn't expect I found it hard to keep my willing suspension of disbelief when I saw the new, completely zoomed-out map. In the third book when everyone was talking about how the people of the Basin were too settled and dormant to explore the world around them, I was like "sure" because I thought that the Southern continent was completely separate from the Basin and its surrounding area. But they're connected! They're. Storming. Connected. I know there's mountains in the middle, but someone would have to have been at least a little but curious as to what's off the edge of their map! You're telling me that for three hundred years, there was more land to be explored and everyone was just like "meh"??? I find that hard to believe. The general fact that we got almost no Malwish content. Couldn't we have at least seen part of the Southern Continent? Idk but I felt kind of cheated. I hope there's more in Era 3. Overall, I give The Lost Metal an 8/10 on my cosmere rating scale. (For reference, White Sand is a 1 and The Way of Kings is a 10.) Overall, it was very good. - Szeth
  13. I turn this story into first-person present tense.
  14. @everyone @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @Illwei @Tani @Dannnex @Matrim's Dice Y'all get it too easy
  15. Hi! Sorry I disappeared. I had a lot of things on my plate - track practice taking up most of my afternoons, and school (especially writing for the yearbook) taking up most of everything else. I still have a lot on my plate, but I've missed the Shard over the past month and want to start being at least a bit active from now on. My schedule will hopefully clear up a bit by the 16th (coincidentally, that's my birthday) because that's when we're sending the yearbook in. But yeah. I'm back :D

  16. But it doesn’t matter if the elims are going for a protective strategy or not — if an elim is definitely going to be exed, then it’s usually pretty safe for their team to start piling votes on them. It depends on whether that was the case when Stink and Orlok voted Stick, though. Again, I probably need to read yesterday’s thread
  17. With absolutely no outside information, this seems to clear Araris and Devotary pretty much completely. That leaves JNV, Thaidakar, STINK, Orlok, and TUA. From today’s VC, JNV and Thaidakar seem suspicious at first glance. This seems like a prime bussing scenario, though… I’ll have to go back and read through that cycle to be sure. Sorry about my absence for most of the game. I’ve been going through a rough spot, and the 60 pages of discussion were overwhelming, and that’s not what I needed in that moment. I’ll try to be more present from now on though.
