    @Araris: Okay; that makes sense. Regardless, he made it clear that the motivation for the attack was the acquisition of my Feruchemy. @Spencer: That's not a good plan. There are way more Twinborn than Spiked. Selecting randomly, you only have a one in five chance of killing someone you actually want dead. And now for our feature presentation. I've been constructing the following analysis in Word since early this afternoon. As such, some of it may be slightly out of date. I've decided to post it anyway, though, as I think there is a good deal that is still relevant. -------------------- I think the general consensus is that Phattemer was likely tonight’s Spiked kill. However, Lord Matthias Mountford’s death seems nearly as interesting to me. Why was he killed? How was he killed? The write-up only says he was “stabbed in the face.” Until now, stabbing meant a Spiked kill, which this clearly wasn't. In an effort to uncover the facts of the matter, I have gone carefully through the rules to create an exhaustive list of every possible way to die in this game, annotated with what I thought were the relevant details. Here we go: The lynchCan only happen during the day. Moving on. The Spiked killAttack can be performed by a Spiked. One and only one attack can be performed each night. Write-ups indicate that it is performed with a knife. Spike items (metal spike, two metal spikes, atium spike)Attack can be performed by any player who has found a spike item. Write-up from Phatt’s attack made it clear that the weapon was a spike. Sterrion 36Attack can be performed by any player who has found a Sterrion 36. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. Sterrion 36 failureAttack can only kill a player who has found and used a Sterrion 36. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. HazecrusherAttack can be performed by any player who has found Hazecrusher. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. Allomantic steelAttack can be performed by a Coinshot. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. Enhanced Allomantic pewterAttack can be performed by a Thug or a Duralumin Gnat who has found and used a spike or lerasium alloy containing the other power, by any player who has found and used a bead of lerasium, or by a Thug with the aid of a Nicroburst. Depiction of attack in the write-up is currently unclear. Feruchemical pewterAttack can only be performed by a Brute. Attack requires two charges per target. Depiction of attack in the write-up is currently unclear. Feruchemical brassAttack can be performed by a Firesoul, during Night 3 onward. Attack cannot be used on Nights 1 and 2. Attack must be preceded by the attacker’s death. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. Blessing of PotencyAttack can be performed by a kandra with the Blessing of Potency, or by any player who has found and used a Blessing of Potency. Attack can only be used twice, and using it even once requires abandoning the Blessing’s protective qualities. Depiction of attack in the write-up is currently unclear. KolossAttack can be performed by a kandra with the Blessing of Potency who has found and used a second Blessing of Potency, or by any player who has found and used two Blessings of Potency. Attack can be used once per night. Depiction of attack in the write-up is currently unclear. Brass CompoundingAttack can be performed by a Brass Compounder. Attack must be preceded by an attack against the attacker. Write-up would likely indicate manner of attack. Double-Enhanced Allomantic ironAttack can be performed by a Lurcher who has done two of the following: burned consecutively for 12 periods to become a Savant, found and used a spike or lerasium bead containing Allomantic duralumin or a bead of lerasium, or received aid from a Nicroburst. Attack can only kill kandra. Write-up would almost certainly indicate manner of attack. We can quickly narrow these down by removing those methods, such as the Sterrion 36 and Feruchemical brass, which could not possibly be described as ‘stabbing.’ Furthermore, many of these attacks are simply impossible at this stage of the game (for example, there cannot be a Koloss yet, as it would require charging at least two spikes with player or NPC kills, either of which would have been reported in the write-up). After removing these, the remaining possibilities are: Spike items* Enhanced Allomantic pewter (lerasium alloy or Nicroburst only) Feruchemical pewter Blessing of Potency (kandra only) Apart from the spikes, these are all alike in that the rules do not state exactly how the attack is performed, meaning that a stabbing with a knife is a valid interpretation. This is supported by the fact that the Spiked kill, also undescribed in the rules, has been shown in the write-up to be committed with a knife. So know we know how the kill could have been committed. But I’m not any closer to figuring out why. Unfortunately, I did not have any contact with Lord Mountford, and I have not heard from anyone who did. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I know this was a lot of work to do for this, but I justified it to myself by reasoning that we could reuse a lot of this same data in analyzing future kills. Feel free to reference this list for whatever you want. *I have left spikes in the running, because they are technically used to stab, but Phatt’s attempted spiking was clearly depicted for what it was; and in any case, Mountford was stabbed in his face, not through his heart. I personally think it unlikely that this kill was committed with a spike. -------------------- EDIT: Does the forum automatically replace the "a Iron" notation with the appropriate lengthened form?     I can confirm. Before the attack, Phatt contacted me, offering to tell me his allomancy in exchange for my feruchemy. He expanded it a few posts later, offering his feruchemy instead. He did not, however, offer to let me tell my allomancy; this should have been a clue. I agreed, and he told me he was a seeker in exchange for my feruchemy. Later, after the attack, I demanded answers; he replied with this: I grudgingly agreed to keep his name out of it, but still felt that I should inform everyone the general idea of what had happened. It would seem that I was attacked simply because my powers lined up with the metal of his spike.

Unless you're so colossally underestimated that we don't even care that you are literally living in our secret den, I don't see how that's gonna work out for you. Then again, that sounds hilarious.     All right then, I'm signing up as Nowko Lestibournes, a devoted follower of the Path of Harmony, and I am proud to say I can trace my lineage back to the Lord Mistborn himself. You know, mostly. If you count lateral movements. And third cousins. And maybe a couple of very close friendships. I'm practically a direct descendant!

    See, the issue with that is that the Spiked can PM just as easily as the rest of us. Plus, the fact that they get a doc means that they can coordinate their PMs with each other secretly. The Spiked have way more to hide than any of us. They thrive on secrecy: the less knowledge is publicly available, the more free they are to manipulate us behind the scenes. When everything is on the table, the Village has the advantage. The only hope the Eliminators have of winning is by turning a game of 5 vs. 25 into a game of 5 vs. 3 vs. 1 vs. 3 vs. 4 vs. 2 vs etc. I'm not saying that you should come out and tell us all your powers, location, and plans, but consider that when we deal in secret, we foster intrigue, and intrigue is what wins the Eliminators the game.

To a rusting outsider?" The sheer gall! Why, he had half a mind... I agree that we need to start being more active in the thread, and that someone needs to get lynched today. The inactives need to get in here, but in the specific case of Tulir, he did warn us before the game began that he would be away from WiFi from the 7th to the 12th, and we encouraged him to join all the same. The RP did mention Jode burning Cadmium, but as others have mentioned, we may need to take that with a grain of salt. Ella, were you in the Town Square when your attack came? Because the RP then made it seem so, and the more evidence as to whether RP clues should be accepted or rejected as information, the better. I would like to announce that I was the intended victim of last night's spiking, and the "would-be hemalurgist" has since confessed that he was merely attacking me for my powers. I believe he is telling the truth, but if he is, then it was an incredibly foolish decision. Guys, even if we disregard that spikes have a 25% chance of TURNING US EVIL, taking out our friends and allies to make ourselves stronger only helps the Spiked. The Village lives or dies as a team. Divided, we fall. Ask yourself a question: in the novels, does hemalurgy typically work out well for the good guys? Note: Because I've been egregiously inconsistent so far, I've decided to standardize my posts. Henceforth, my RP is in green, my game discussion is in black, and my out-of-game discussion is in blue.

    Not only did they all have to choose to activate them, if any of them left the room, it would have failed. So they're all still in room B2 with me. It's just the only context in which I've seen a twelfth root before.

    Well, blast. Okay, possibility two, there were two cadmium mistings and two bendalloy mistings in the Town Square. That way everyone who left lost two actions. That's even harder to coordinate, though.

    The rules say that time bubbles are a full-night background action. They don't work on the action period system, because their function is to alter the number of action periods. So there were at least two cadmium mistings out there. (Or one cadmium misting and a Nicroburst. Or a secret mistborn with cadmium and duralumin.) given that I, who staid behind, had no action loss, I suspect the situation was one Cadmium and one Bendalloy misting in Town Square (They have to have overlapped at least once, or the GMs wouldn't have felt it necessary to explain how that works) and one in Mushroom Farms. I haven't heard from anyone who lost two actions going another direction. I think you're right, though, in that the bubbles overlapping on the first round seems convenient to me. It would have been a clever maneuver, if they knew how it would work out (and if they were discussing it in the doc, I bet a GM just popped in to confirm the mechanics of it). They could all stay behind, and retain their actions, while the majority of players would leave, and have an action stolen. I think this is supported by the fact that the RP of the write-up seems to indicate that the attack happened in the Town Square. If this is all correct, then the attack almost certainly came in the first action period. Any later than that, and they would have risked missing because their target had left the room. twelfthrootoftwo, is your username a music theory reference?

The rumors had been confirmed, a call to arms made. And, he noticed with a scowl, Drell has conveniently slipped out of the alehouse, just as things started to heat up. He should be heading home, preparing for the coming days. People would be wanting metal. But he just couldn't bear the notion of walking home in the dark. Just one more drink, he told himself. Just one more.

    We don't search for specific items, we just see if we can find whatever item is in the same room as us. If we wanted to divide labor, we would do it by rooms, not by item. also, lerasium and caffeine aren't in play yet; all the items are currently "pretty cool" items.

    Malrick's words sent a shiver through Kwon's bones. It couldn't be... could it? Kwon may have his disagreements with his fellow townsfolk, but what family didn't? The actual fact of the matter was the he trusted many of these people with his life. For one of them to betray that trust... No. He just couldn't accept it. Although... he thought, eyeing Drell suspiciously. And then he realized that the accursed Tineye was listening in on his personal conversation! Why, he had half a mind... He looked back at Malrick. He had turned away, dealing with Cylkan the Lamplighter. Still, It would be poor manners to start a fight in his friend's place of work. But Drell had better not run into Kwon on the way home that night.

    Drell watched the crazy woman whispering in the corner with amusement, listening with his tin to her meaningless babbling. From what he could tell, she thought was talking to a ghost about some 'Kae' person -- probably another figment of her imagination -- being devoted to her. She noticed him staring, and tried to explain away her behavior. Snorting, he turned back to the matter at hand. "So, Faliu -- that was your name, yes? What was it you wanted to know?"

    "...But they just keep shoving the stuff down their throats like it's nothing! I'm down to just seven blocks of copper, for Preservation's sake! And I just know that it wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for that snake, Drell, with his 'businessman's interest' in the--" Kwon paused, noticing for the first time that his audience's attention was elsewhere. "Malrick? You seem distracted; is everything alright?" he asked, concerned. He frowned, then noticed his friend's occasional sidelong glances at his assorted patrons -- in particular, at all the strangers. "It's this new talk, isn't it. These 'Spiked', or whatever they're calling themselves. It's got me worried, too. Do you... now, this is just hypothetical, you understand... do you suppose that maybe some of these newcomers might be spies for the Lord Ruler?" Kwon shivered.
