  1. Rilla sat on the floor of the room she'd been hiding in all day, rocking back and forth, head in her hands, muttering to herself. "I don't know anything useful. I don't even know what's happening anymore. Onon was right, I misjudged Sirta. I just... I didn't know that was how it was supposed to work. Now what? What do I do, what do I do, what do I do? I have to think things through as well as I can before sunset. Onon... Onon's dead! The ghosts have taken him away! They were supposed to help him! They liked him. Is that why they took him? Think. Think! I don't know what to think." She reached for her notes, but they dissolved in her hands. "No. No! Now what? Am I useless? Just like that? No, I have to find some way to help. Rem. Rem? I don't think it's Rem. But if Rem's a Thug, not a Lurcher, shouldn't someone have said something about maybe not killing Sono based on Rem's claim? Why didn't Onon say something? He knew. Rem couldn't say something without giving the Spiked a clear opportunity, could he? No. The Spiked attacked him on the first day. They would have killed him if they knew they could for sure. Pending. Pending says he wasn't blessed by the mists, right? Yes, that's right. But so much can hide behind such a claim. What if he was blessed, and he claimed not to be so he could hide, invisible among us? I don't know anything, do I. Sirta. I think I trust Sirta. Onon trusted him, and he's trying.

"Pending. I'm sorry. I just - don't know what else to do."

  2. "Based on a short PM interaction and some of Sono's statements so far, he worries me a lot. The way he's acting doesn't fit with my Paradigm of How Most Villagers Act. It confuses and frustrates me, and I don't like it. He's played before. Yesterday he said he was a Lurcher when he really shouldn't have. Today he said, in front of everybody, that he used his one Lurcher charge - meaning if he's village, the Spiked know they don't have to worry about kill protection from him anymore. If he's Spiked, he claimed to have Lurched someone who wasn't attacked, meaning that we can't tell whether or not he ever had a charge, and he becomes free to use it on whoever he wants. Just now, he asked me in a letter what if he told me he lied about being a Lurcher. This feels, to me, a bit too noncommittal and convoluted for it to be a useful village move, *especially since he wasn't pressured into a roleclaim, he claimed in a way that seemed almost like a new person's mistake - which it shouldn't be, because he's seemingly had plenty of past lives."

edit: "*especially since he wasn't pressured into either the role or the action claims and he claimed in a way that... "

And don't even get me started about Thor : Love and Thunder.

I haven't watched it, but I've heard from some cousins that it's a bit of a mess. I think one good reason to watch it would be to laugh at how badly it was done.

"I have an idea. Why don't we kill Sirta first, then lynch the seeker." He wrote down some stuff, "Keeping a spiked Sirta around is bad, but keeping a spiked Pending is worse, especially if he is a thug."

"There is no evidence or claim that Pending is a Thug other than what Sirta has said about him. Is there anyone who says Pending's a thug with actual proof or a less-suspect role read on him? I'm not glued to my vote as it's still just my current best guess between two half-unknown options, but I would like a better reason to vote Pending than a blind trust in Sirta's honesty, especially when I see a 50/50 chance of Sirta being Spiked."

  5. Rilla watched as the sun approached the horizon. Not much time left for her to say her piece.

"Sirta, your whole argument as to why Pending's evil and you're not is literally 'I know I'm not evil. Let's go talk about other things now.' That's not very helpful, but it does reek of misdirection. You admitted that Pending correctly guessed your role. How likely was that? Additionally, Pending didn't have to claim that he saw your actions last night, but he did anyway, completely unprovoked. Finally, some of your reasoning confuses me. You marked Onon as village, and then put him in a hypothetical three-elim team, without listing a two-elim team option beside it, despite the fact that you admitted that would be possible."

Rem clocked the new person in town. "Welcome to the investigation! You don't need to get too bogged down in what was at the expense of being present."

Rilla pushed her glasses up onto her hair, briefly massaging the bridge of her nose. "Fair point. However, the past holds important information too, so I won't abandon my efforts entirely." She gathered up her papers and stepped out into the town square, finding a place to sit against a dying tree where she could keep an ear on things while she continued to read. The cat didn't follow.

"I think that, based on Sono's slip with his role and his later comments on said slip, he's more likely to not be Spiked, though I'm not extremely certain about that. Onon, though, I'm sure he's with the village." And the ghosts like him. "I don't know anyone I'm suspicious of yet. Maybe I'm too focused on finding villagers instead of Spiked. Tell me, is it better to look for friends or enemies?"

“So, Sirta." Lord Pending jabbed his cane in the man’s general direction with an accusatory air.

"I’m afraid I have to confess to following you around last night. But I’m glad I did. The mists gave me a power, you see, different from all the other ones we’ve heard about so far. It lets me hear people burning metals. If I listen very closely… It lets me hear if they’re spiked. A suitable ability, for a Lord such as myself. It is a Lord’s duty to have sound judgement, and clearly the mists recognize that.”

“And it turns out…” Lord Pending paused lengthily for dramatic effect before the reveal, “Sirta is a Spiked Coinshot!”

Rilla's turned towards Lord Pending as he made his claim and accusation, then sat pondering for several moments.

    Spoiler

Based on the role, I do think a Seeker is more likely to be a villager, in which case Lord Pending is good and Sirta is Spiked. However, Pending could easily have claimed to be a Seeker while actually being a Spiked of either a different or no role, and in a game with only a certain number of charges, he could also easily claim not to have any more. If he's evil his goal is to kill an innocent, if he's good his goal is to expose a Spiked. I didn't have any read on him before now, so trying to figure this out is going to be... fun. He has seemed a bit flippant about this whole thing, but perhaps that's just how he speaks - I don't know him well enough to say. My instinct is to trust Pending simply because he claimed a role and an action, but that's probably not a very good instinct to have, keep, or often follow.

I also did not previously have a read on Sirta.

I think I'm not going to do anything yet, and go back and read more of the previous day's events to see if I can get a read on Pending or Sirta, because this looks to me like one is good and the other is Spiked. I'm probably going to vote at a later time based on what I find about them.

She sat back against the tree once more, turning to her reading to try to find which of them she could trust.

  7. Rilla sat in a hidden corner of the library, hunched over records of the previous days. Leaving for the harvest festival had caused her to miss so much! There were reports of odd, seemingly shared dreams of Spiked trying to murder everybody. There were also reports of Spiked actually trying to murder everybody. She checked, and this was probably real. The blood was not - it never was. The cat, though, might be. Focus. The words. She needed to finish reading this before another day passed her by.

  8. It could be Inkspren. Remember the thing about spren being tiny gods?

Edit: Though I guess if it's Inkspren it might also be Yixli and it'd be way easier to just say "spren" for those two and we can't really tell them apart with "Gods" so I really hope it's not either of the spren...

Edit2: Uli Da is dead. Does she still count as a Shard vessel / god if she's dead? Also, we're supposed to ping Archivist when we guess.

Edit3: Can we not choose Uli Da just yet?
