  1. You could probably achieve this effect if you were to get a massive interconnection of nicrosil metalminds (i.e. the size of a small city, or larger) and then tap it all very quickly. It would likely only be a temporary ascension, however, much like the Well of Ascension. You likely could also ascend via bio-chromatic breaths, but you'd need A LOT.
  2. Seeing the future always involves access to the spiritual realm, but doesn't necessarily require the manipulation of Fortune. The use of Fortune does allow access to the spiritual realm, however.
  3. Well, you shouldn't need a full shard's power in order for it to start gaining sapience. Radiant spren don't have anywhere near that level of investiture. Nightblood would also be a good example. However, having a larger clump of investiture would increase it's level of intelligence. So, you'd likely need a decently sized chunk of investiture for it to gain human-level intelligence, but not an astronomically large amount.
  4. It's probably because for such a popular character, her morality is extremely questionable to some. (Plus, having an excuse for another Hemalurgy topic is always welcome by me )
  5. Jasnah Kholin is a very intelligent, very driven, and very practical person. When, and yes I believe that for someone like her it is only a matter of when, she discovers Hemalurgy, will she be okay with using it to accomplish her own ends? To me, I would think 'yes', but what do you think?
  6. Dude (or girl, I don't actually know). I've never hear such an awesome pair of sentences before. It just sounds really, really cool. And I really hope that's how it works
  7. But you'd still get basically the same effect, wouldn't you?
  8. In my opinion, no, Jasnah did not do the right thing. Now, I do think that she had the right to self defense. I do think that she should be allowed to go where she would like, as it is her choice. I think that if this situation were put in court, there would be enough arguments in her defense that she wouldn't be seen as anything other than a victim. However, I believe that she should have and could have handled the situation much better than she did. She, at the time, was a princess of Alethkar, and had a great deal of practical, if not political influence, and even if those thugs had friends in higher places to protect them from the law...pardon me but, um, how on Roshar would they be able to legally outmaneuver someone of Jasnah Kholin's caliber if they were arrested and she really wanted them properly sentenced for their crimes? Not only that, but what Jasnah did was not self defense. She is a knight radiant, and is therefore able to regenerate from pretty much any kind of bodily harm so long as she has enough stormlight. She was never in any serious danger. Plus, she knew the danger well ahead of time, and went there anyway while displaying her wealth for no other reason than to push them to attack her. Additionally, she could have merely incapacitated them instead of killing them with her radiant powers. She could have soulcast the ground around them, trapping them until the police were forced to come and aid, because even if they were corrupt, there's no way that they would ignore a princess, foreign or not, to be accosted like that. What's more, because Jasnah is a knight radiant, she should be trying to be more willing to accept that others can change. become better. That's the point of the oaths, isn't it? In reality, Jasnah had a lot more options that, in my mind, would have been far more humane and ethical. I can't see that someone as intelligent and observant as Jasnah would overlook such things accidentally; she didn't kill those men because she just wanted them to stop hurting people, she killed them because she wanted them dead. I realize this is a strong opinion, and may likely upset people who like her character. I am sorry if I offend you with my thoughts; I merely wish to share what I, personally, think.
  9. Apologies. I meant that compounding copies the abilities of another magic system with Preservation's investiture rather than the investiture that the system normally uses. The abilities seemed unchanged to me, despite the fact that they were powered by an investiture that had a different Intent. Now, I know that Feruchemy is of both Ruin and Preservation, which might change things, but I still think that you could use compounding to potentially copy at least some other magic systems' abilities.
  10. I bet Ruin would like Nightblood, or at least be pleased with what it does, what with it destroying everything it touches and all. But yeah, Nightblood would probably just kill the vessel if it got the chance.
  11. Hemalurgy removes a piece of someone's spiritweb and grafts it onto someone else's spiritweb, and parts of your spiritual DNA can be passed on. So, if a steel inquisitor were to have a child, would their kid have the spiritual, and possibly physical DNA of not just their two biological parents, but also all the people who's souls got stapled on as well? Would certain physical traits of those "soul parents" manifest in the child, such as having a mixed race? Man, if this were the case, and Marsh had a kid...it would be a bit weird for Marsh to have to explain that to said kid that they actually have twenty-some parents.
  12. Yes, that's true, but as far as I understand it, there is a specific way to access a Shard's investiture, and that comes from their own magic system. The only way I've seen to access Ruin's power would be in the creation of a Hemalurgic spike. But awakening is of Endowment, and uses her investiture. So, is more going on here? How did Nightblood access that investiture? Was the command used to create it simply close enough to Ruin's Intent that Nightblood's creation was fueled by Ruin? Or maybe a Hemalurgic spike was somehow involved? I guess that's what I'm really confused about.
  13. Why thank you! It is an absolute pleasure to be on the Shard with such nice folks as yourself.
  14. So, as per WoB, Nightblood's investiture is related to Ruin's investiture. If Nightblood were to meet the vessel of Ruin, what would happen? Would Nightblood be able to hurt them, or are they too similar to hurt one another? Would Nightblood be able to feed and grow on Ruin's mists?
  15. I think that RoW was a good book. But...it felt lacking after the massive buildup of Oathbringer, and the huge world-wide events that occurred there. And I cared about all the stuff going on because of the world building that happened in the previous two books. RoW, in comparison, felt a bit like a let down after what I had expected from Oathbringer. Plus, both Kaladin and Shallan, in my opinion, felt like they had regressed since the last book, and that felt a little frustrating to me.
  16. How on Roshar did Nightblood get Ruin's investiture?! Not saying that it's not true, just curious is all.
  17. Nightblood absorbs investiture, but what would happen if he absorbed anti-investiture? Would it hurt him (I suppose 'it' is a better pronoun, but I got it stuck in my head from Vasher to say 'him') if the anti-investiture was the opposite of whatever investiture he held?
  18. Is there a way to amplify the Rhythms? Could a loud, but precise speaker be used with Intent to create an anti-rhythm? Would someone holding more innate investiture be able to hum a rhythm more strongly than someone with less innate investiture? Could a sword with the ability to resonate a rhythm be instilled with the ability to create an anti-rhythm, causing extra pain to something it was designed to be the opposite of? What if you awakened that sword? Would that amplify it’s ability to create an anti-rhythm, if you used a specific command telling it to do that? If two people are humming a rhythm, one using the positive tone, the other the anti-version, would they cancel each other out through destructive interference? Could it be in the future of the Stormlight Archive that the humans and singers on the battlefield both hum anti-rhythms to try and incapacitate the others' surgebinders, whilst humming their own rhythm to nullify the enemy's anti-rhythm?
  19. Hmmmm...okay, so maybe reprogamming investiture to have a completely unique Intent is harder than I thought, maybe even impossible. So here's another idea. If you were to somehow gather investiture from every single Shard, could you snap them all together into Adonalsium’s pre-shattering investiture? Would this investiture have a balanced enough Intent tied to it that you wouldn’t be pushed or pulled by it in any particular way? If it’s Intent did significantly influence you, what would it even do?
  20. I’ve taken some more thought to my previous theory on using Hemalurgic duralumin. If you were to Hemalurgically give yourself the Identity of someone of a different race, would you change to their race in given time? If your own Identity is not completely overwritten, but is merely entwined with the new Identity, would you become a mixed race? What if you give yourself the Identity of someone of the opposite sex? Would you change to their biological sex, or perhaps you’d be stuck in between? What if you took the Identity of an animal, like a wolf? Could you turn into a Cosmere equivalent of a werewolf? (werewolves on Scadrial, and a Scadrial version of Van Hellsing to hunt them. That should be the next sequence of books for Mistborn )
  21. I believe that the reason why Vivenna's blade doesn't leak is because it doesn't have nearly the amount of investiture held within it as Nightblood. Nightblood leaks because he is holding more investiture than he can handle, so it leaks out. Can't say for certain about the whole dawnshard thing though.
  22. Raysium conducts investiture, so could you suck out two people's souls, then stick them in each other's bodies?
  23. Hey, I never said that it was a good idea
  24. True, but it's still copying another magic system. Plus, Feruchemy is normally powered by both Preservation and Ruin, which has a significantly different Intent, so you should be able to copy other magic systems potentially.
