King's folly stuff:

I am quite sorry for the long wait. I have had several issues regarding writing a time-travel scene, and this one had to be good. I especially appreciate help from Nootwatcher, Argenti, and Lotus (and more) on the 17S discord who are worth mentioning here.

King's folly is a writing thing. I think most of you already know why I write so I will get right to it.

King's Folly: Chapter 6

It took multiple tries to traverse time. The gods gave me some guiding tips, where to find demons, and how to kill them. I stand now in front of the gods. The whirl of time pulses as time is pulled into a string, then pulled back, yanking me to a time beyond my own.

The first thing I notice is the colors. Everything is more vivid and bright. It almost hurts my eyes to look at. The clouds are clear, and few signs of civilation show. I can see the mountains from here. They stand out like a dragon in a den of gnashers. They are deeper in hue and more desaturated from the rest of the blinding world. I start to head there. 

The journey there is a bright vivid tale filled with lush forests and soft noises. Villages with primitive features are along my path but not worthy of stopping at. I need to get this over with. The mountains now loom over me. They are a steep yet enlightening climb. The crisp air matches the soon fate of the primordial ancestors of Efridit. 

Finally, I have arrived. The cave that holds these pitiful abominations has an intense purple-white glow that flares so bright that I am blinded. I blink, and the light fades. In the cave, about 30 feet in diameter, lies two eldritch demons. They are constructed out of pitch black bones with a pinkish outline around it. They are thinner than a plank of wood and illuminate the cavern with their otherworldly glow. 

I will not describe the screams and shouts of the insidious act I commit. I am satisfied with the result, and release my grip on the strings of time, returning myself to the right place. 

I blink at the suddently darkened world. The Octogon has already left, and I am left alone to ponder what I have just done as I walk out of the divine meeting area. The dragon takes me back down, and I can see that the skies have cleared. The world is no longer flooded. The towns flourish with delight oblivious to the cataclysm that had been reversed. The king's executioner calls out from the plaza with his comical yet iconic voice. I am curious about how my past actions have affected the world around me.

I walk along the poorly kept trail that will lead me to the eastern ocean. The villages that I pass have nice people and well-kept buildings. The wide broad plains give away to the everlasting forest. The forest has not changed. The roots of the massive trees serve as a playground for the small critters that scamper away from me as I draw near. The specks of light fly all over the forest floor caused by the weather blowing gentle wind into the foliage far above me. 

It all makes room for the same stoney bay, where crashing sounds play and jagged rocks compound. The rock that I challenged Efridit on was still there. I step onto it again out of curiosity and gaze down into the eastern ocean that the massive rockwall covers.

The entire ocean was gone. All of it.

There is still some water there, but it is far into the territory of what Efridit has been replaced by. A void, a chaos, rippling with the calmness of the ocean yet pulsing with Efridit's fury. A knife wound in the soul of the land itself. A flame constantly sucks into wherever that etherial hole leads to. It was a blackish liquidlike tear that appeared the same from all directrions. It had a purple-magenta border and had a shimmer of pink, not unlike the eldritch demons that caused this cosmic terror. It instills a sense of fear and hopelessness that comes from this other side of the tear. It is massive, covering almost all that I can see of the ocean. It floats slightly above the ocean but yet somehow covers it. I turn away to try to supress the effects of the rift but still feel hopeless.

I know of what could maybe stop this menacing hole. There are some in the north that have the power to preserve. I go quickly to request their aid. 

Being near the results of your powers feels bad.

It's time I head north.
