  1. Caden gestured off to his right absent-mindedly, "over there. But yours is that way." He pointed in the opposite direction.
  2. "Of course not," Caden continued to march down the hallway, "I have a second bedroom that you will sleep in."
  3. "Why? You'll only find everything on your own anyways."
  4. "Fine, fine! Let's just get inside." Caden opened the door and walked in without waiting for Riva.
  5. Caden laughed, sounding unnatural as he did it. "What do you expect me to have, a tailor? You won't find any dresses in this castle, woman. Not unless you can get one from the serving staff."
  6. "Is that really going to be a problem?" Caden folded his arms, sighing as his patience wore thin.
  7. Caden rolled his eyes as he got to the door, turning around to wait for the Raveness. "Just over here, and it won't be a problem."
  8. Caden snorted, "I doubt that." He turned towards the estate that stood before him. It was stout and grey, looking far more like a fortress than the palace that they had just come from. It was low to the ground, looking as if it had been a taller keep once, but something had shoved it into the ground. Despite this, the building managed to look dark and imposing as it watched over the land with its sharp corners and roughly textured walls. Caden walked towards the entrance without giving the building or the Raveness a second look. "Come on, let's get inside."
  9. Caden glared at the Raveness, "why by the Stars would anyone do that?"
  10. Caden growled in annoyance as he opened the door to step outside, not bothering to help the Raveness down as he started to stretch his sore muscles.
  11. As much as Caden wanted to lie to her, he preferred getting out of the carriage sooner rather than later. "We're here."
  12. Caden flinched from the strike, glaring at the Raveness.
  13. The carriage slowly came to a stop, with sounds of the coachman descending from his seat. Caden looked over to the Raveness, checking for signs of her stirring. He sighed, nudging her to get her awake.
  14. Caden turned to look out the window once more, unsure how to respond.
  15. "Unfortunately," Caden turned a little away from the Raveness, "I'm not privy to all of his strategies."
  16. Caden looked over the Raveness again, "the King isn't crazy. In my experience, he rarely does anything without a plan."
  17. "Loyalty," Caden corrected her. "When a man saves your life and lands, you owe it to him to save his."
  18. Caden didn't even look up, responding more out of instinct than anything. "He saved me and my house when I stood alone."
  19. "I'm no-" Caden growled in annoyance, "just ask your next question."
  20. Caden shook his head, "no, an observation."
  21. "Even then," Caden turned a looked over the Raveness once more, "you seem to be very good at it."
  22. Caden tried to stay out of the Raveness's way, but ultimately failed in the small carriage. "When people are at the end of your blade, they don't talk much."
  23. Caden, not understanding what most of that meant, simply nodded. "I can see how that would keep you busy."
  24. Caden furrowed his brow, at a general lost for words. "Do you uh, have anything you do besides your work?"
