  1. "That's all you'll ever be, and that's all you'll be remembered for!" He shouted as he stormed down the hall, feeling the distinct urge to crush something in his hands.
  2. "Not quite so loud, Maal will think you're speaking about yourself, witch." He brushed her finger aside with ease, "I will not stand for you and your poisons! Stay out of my way, or be crushed!" He spun around and tossed his chair aside, stomping towards the door.
  3. Caden tossed the cup that was in his hand across the room, causing it to shatter against the wall. "Here I thought you had managed to become bearable, but you've been playing your games since the moment that you stepped through my door!" He stood up, blood coursing through his body. "Lie to me all you want, witch! But I will never tolerate you!"
  4. "What does it matter anymore?" He leaned towards her, "take it! All you've done is harass me and make my life difficult the day that I laid eyes on you, why stop now?!"
  5. "Did you ask before you stole my personal chambers?! In fact, I distinctly remember telling you to not enter that room."
  6. "What does it matter," Caden glared at Riva, "I thought that subjects such as 'personal space' were to be disregarded in one of these relationships."
  7. He grit his teeth, "only for a moment. It was a small price to pay when in service to the king."
  8. Caden coughed, bits of chicken flying from his mouth before silently cursing himself. "I- What I mean is-" He shouted in frustrated while slamming his fists on the table, "I explicitly decided to not bring that up, why am I saying this?!"
  9. "Yes, he likes to stay to the shadows more, helps him 'be effective at his work,' apparently." Caden picked up a piece of meat and shoved it into his mouth, "I told him over and over again that his skills had to be as good as promised, because even I thought that letting him into your workplace was a high price."
  10. "Not much," Caden admitted, "most of what I've got is from that hunter I hired out."
  11. He gave her a strange look, "how the blazes should I know?"
  12. Caden looked down, having not realized that she had taken his hand. "What are you doing?"
  13. Caden waved her comment aside, "I would have eaten eventually. You've only brought it about faster."
  14. Caden turned, happy for the distraction. Two serving boys assisted the chef in placing the meal before the two, the plates heaped with an assortment of hot meat and grilled vegetables. Caden rubbed his hands together, "I didn't realize how hungry I was."
  15. "You've seen my uniforms, and I've seen what you wear." Caden shrugged, "I don't understand the foolishness of fashion, but they don't seem to work well together to me."
  16. "Not by choice," Caden grumbled. He spoke up, "I doubt we would even look good standing beside one another at one of those balls."
  17. "A power couple? I would hardly call us a couple, woman."
  18. "The King is troubled by this traitor, and so I am troubled." He nodded, taking another sip of the tea. "One of the King's own ladies is leading the group, so it must be crushed before it can become more of an issue than it already is."
  19. "'Those papers' hold the key to wiping out a particularly troubling group of rebels and traitors for good," Caden raised an eyebrow at her, "my job, in case you had forgotten. And it is very time sensitive, I count myself fortunate that the hunter I hired got his work done as quickly as he did."
  20. He furrowed his brow, "not what I was expecting in the slightest. I suspected and believed that tonight would be full and boring as you attempted to toy with me again, when I could be doing something far more productive."
  21. Caden looked at her dead in the eyes, "I cannot explain how much I doubt that."
  22. Caden sighed, and shifted in his seat. "Just one dance?"
  23. Caden almost scoffed at the mentioning of the word grace, but instead disguised it by clearing his throat. "As good as you make that sound, I can get someone to take my place and dance with you."
  24. "No," Caden snapped, "you just never see a feared and respected General dancing like a wide eyed lover boy during a ball, that's it."
