Masquerade - These Masks We Wear
The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
"I suspect," he rolled his shoulders, "that the king has more in mind than this specific relationship. In all of the years I've been at his side, he's rarely done anything without a way for it to benefit him more than anyone else."- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
"Then all this would be is you taking advantage of me and this scenario that has come your way." Caden thought about how to rephrase that, trying to find a better reason to say what he wanted. "Would you have done all of this to anyone else who came your way, or just me?"- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
"Then why are you doing all of this? Why are you not content with the two of us simply letting the other be, and what could you have to gain from it all?" He paused, "I don't expect you to answer truthfully, but I nothing you've said to explain it thus far has been particularly believable, given your reputation." Caden finished his sentence just as they turned down a hall, the door leading to the dining hall just at the end of it.- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
"I'm not convinced that you're doing this, how do you say? 'Out of the goodness of your heart,'" he said as he turned back to looking down the hall, his face turning stone hard. "Such a thing never exists, and if it does, it is quickly and brutally crushed."- 5114 replies

"Before the wedding, I got the distinct impression that you wanted me to hate you, to fear you." He looked at her skeptically, "unless you have decided to go about a different and strange method, I can't say why you changed."- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
"Right," Caden said, moving to take the lead to the dining room. "Well then, 'Riva,' I've been thinking on a specific subject." He hardly paused speaking, taking little to not time to think over his words as he normally would. It would have struck him as odd if he weren't so caught up in his train of thought, "why the change?"- 5114 replies

"I was trying to say that it would go a long way if you chose to respect those spaces," Caden said as he leaned back, not looking overly shocked at the movement, but more like he was looking at an annoying child.- 5114 replies

With a glare, Caden slowly picked up the tea cup, watching the Raveness closely for any signs that would tell him that something was off. He took a sip, the heat slightly burning his lips as he downed a small bit of the tea. He coughed softly, not expecting it to burn on the way down. "What did you put in this?"- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
With his feet squelching in the mud, Caden dismounted his horse with little care for how filthy his boots got. He walked through the door to his fortress, the piece of parchment secured in his tunic for further inspection was he was in a secure and dry place. Just thinking back on being forced to wait for that hunter while he rummaged through the Raveness's stuff caused him to glance over his shoulder anxiously. He shuddered, shoving away that thought as he locked the door behind him, and marched towards his personal place of work to dissect the report and write up a request to the King as quickly as possible. He was absolutely certain that nothing and no one would stop him, with the few members of his serving staff being sure to keep clear of him as he stormed through the hallways, and the Raveness herself being nowhere in sight, fortunately. Nothing could distract him, not even changing out of his sweaty and filthy clothes. He opened the door to his working room, and found it empty as it always was, save for the single desk that occupied the center of the chamber. He pulled out the chair, and placed the parchment on the table onto to discover that it was a set of parchment, instead of a single sheet. Grunting in surprise, he readied a blank letter to write up for the King as soon as he was finished with what that hunter has provided for him, and he began to read furiously. He did his best to avoid skimping on details, but he prioritized certain bits that looked more important than others, especially the part on what the hunter had witnessed for the traitors' method of moving their base of operations, and where potential new locations were if they were forced to move again. Caden smiled, every bit of discomfort from the hunter's "payment" seeming to have been paid back for in full. He continued reading, taking quick notes on what he wanted to tell the king.- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
The door leading to the stable slammed open as Caden stormed straight through the hall, mud splatter across his breast plate and legs. He tossed aside a man who dared to step across the general's path with a simple swipe of his arm, sending the young man screaming as he flew and hit the wall. Caden grinned for but a moment before a scowl returned to his face, scaring off any who even stepped in the same hall that he was in. He was late, and Stars above forsake him if he missed this blazing opportunity when it would likely never come again. After the first serving boy was cleanly smacked for trying to get the general's attention, presumably to offer some sort of service for his clothes, the message was received, and the staff left him be to reach his destination. Caden hardly paused to open the door, scanning the room quickly for the hunter before setting on the strangely dressed man sitting in a fresh chair, it was identical to the one he had shattered when he had learned of his engagement to Riva. He growled, "what is it that you summoned me here for, hunter Exegesis?" The man tried to smile pleasantly, but it was obviously forced. "Can we please cut this short, I've got a shrieking headache, and no amount of your near bradyphrenia like state will help it go away." "Fine," Caden growled, "what did you find?" "What you wanted," hunter Exegesis said as he lifted his arms above his head in a stretching motion, "and I don't know about you, but I need my payment." "Not until I see the results," Caden stated with an edge rising in his voice. Hunter Exegesis produced a piece of paper from his overcoat, "everything you need to know is in here. Now," Exegesis said as he leaned forward, "payment. I hear the Raveness is moving out in a hurry, so your opportunity of having her separated from her things is closing fast. That is how you're planning on getting me in, right." Caden glared at the hunter's insufferable, knowing grin and reaching for the slip of parchment. "Hand it over." "Nu uh uh," Exegesis said, withdrawing the paper into his sleeve. "After, not before. Now I suggest you start leading the way." After clenching his extended hand into a fist, Caden spun around towards the door without glancing back at Exegesis to be sure that he was following. "Let's make this quick," he hissed at the man. Exegesis's voice rang out from directly behind Caden, "that sounds rehearsed. You say that to your wife often?" Caden spun to glare at him, in response to which the hunter only put his hands up mockingly. "I meant no offense, o' touchy general." "If I see you again after this, nothing will stop me from cutting open your mouth to take you tongue out." "I get the picture," Exegesis said, "can we move on, now? Some of us have an urgent appointment after this." Caden scoffed, but led the hunter down into the depths of the castle, towards the Raveness's old place of residence.- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
Caden returned to the room that he had his desk in, his thoughts still on that strange encounter with the Raveness, his wife. The experience was just so incredibly different from what had happened just before the wedding that he was considering that this was a different woman. He shook his head, trying to clear it of such strange thoughts as he tried to focus once more on his work. When he looked over towards his desk, he saw a new letter placed on top, marked clearly as "urgent." He quickly tore it open, and read through the contents. After he did so, he practically tossed the letters he had just written up onto the desk to be delivered before rushing out the door towards the stable. He didn't bother to wake the stable master, instead saddling his own horse to ride to the King's palace. It seemed that hiring that hunter had been a good choice, so best not to waste any opportunity that he offered the good general. He was willing to ride as long as it took to get to the palace, no matter the hour. Besides, he would be back before anyone noticed that he was gone.- 5114 replies
