Masquerade - These Masks We Wear
The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
Caden placed his hand on the doorframe, turning his head to look back at the Raveness. "Good night." He didn't immediately turn away, pausing for just a moment as he felt that he should be doing or saying something more. Instead, he walked off back to his desk to gather the letters that were to be sent off.- 5114 replies

Masquerade - These Masks We Wear
The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
For a moment, Caden froze where he stood. It wasn't exactly the words that the Raveness spoke that had surprised him, but the manner in which she spoke them. His mind worked slowly as he reviewed the woman's words in his mind, although whether it was due to the late hour or the source of the words, he couldn't say. His lungs began to burn, and he released a breath that he didn't know he was holding. The woman who he had feared and hated for so long stood before him in only her chemise, asking that he not not want to kill her. He shook his head, the contradiction between the woman who stood before him and the Raveness who had such an overpowering presence at the ball barely more than a day ago burned in his mind. There had to be something that she wanted from him, right? Wasn't that how the Raveness worked? He spoke slowly, unsure how to respond to the tone that the Raveness had set, "I don't want to kill you unless the King commands it." The king, yes. The king had a purpose for this relationship, that was all that Caden had to keep in mind. "I won't love you, Raveness, and I never will." He stepped away from her, feeling a strange sense as he left her immediate presence; but he was glad to be standing alone, just as he was used to. "Just stay out of my way, and this might work out."- 5114 replies

He regarded the Raveness with a suspicious glare, stopping only to get a better look at the woman who had grabbed hold of his arm. "What do you really expect to get out of this marriage, a man who's subservient to you and your every whim?"- 5114 replies

Caden set his jaw at the statement, "be careful not to confuse cowardice for a strategical mindset. Everyone's willing to call the man who retreats from a fight a coward instead of looking past such notions for the logic behind the move."- 5114 replies

He spoke without allowing himself a single moment to actually think it over, "I am a servant to the King. I don't care to ask if his will is "good" or "evil," just if it is the best choice to achieve his goals."- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
Caden stopped adjusting his uniform for a moment, evidently thinking the subject over with great care. Only a moment later he shudder slightly, as if clearing himself of a particularly strange thought. He looked towards the Raveness with a suspicious look in his own eyes, "what am I supposed to say, 'no?'"- 5114 replies

"I've never been married, Raveness; no matter what you skills of deduction would say." He adjusted his shirt so that it might be a little more comfortable on him, "the only person I've 'lost' is my father, and his time was going to come sooner or later anyways."- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
With a strange mixture of a growl and a sigh; Caden put the letter away and looked up at the Raveness for the first time, only to be confronted by what she was wearing, or rather, what she wasn't wearing. He was silent for only a few seconds before demanding, "what are you doing walking around the castle in just that?"- 5114 replies

The sound of a pen scratching on paper was quickly overpowered by the General munching rather loudly on some small baked goods that the castle chef had called "koekjes." Caden didn't particularly care what they were called, he just liked that they were both sweet, and that they had a solid crunch to them as he popped another one into his mouth. He chewed on the koekje absent-mindedly as reviewed the report that was on the table once more while still in his uniform, confirming that he understood the details right before continuing to work on his response. He stated that the man who wrote the report was to investigate this matter further before Caden would be willing to commit more resources to the situation. He was so engrossed by both his work and snacking that he did not notice the woman who stood at the door to the kitchen at first. It was only a second later that he realized he wasn't alone, but since no one bothered him at such a late hour he was at a loss for who it could be. When he looked up from the document, he nearly did a double take, trying to work out who stood before him until. "Raveness?"- 5114 replies

The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
With the slamming fo the door resonating throughout the chamber, Caden felt his arms getting sore from remaining clenched for so long. He regretted not having more servants on his staff, but given that the reason he wanted more was the reason that many chose not to take the job, that would have been difficult even if he tried. He settled for overturning an end table that stood close to him, but that wasn't nearly enough. That infernal woman just had to take his personal chambers as her own. He wanted to storm into the room and toss her out like the child that she was acting like, but uncertainty over the King's intent with this marriage held the General back, for now. He stood in the room for what felt like an eternity, simply breathing in and out in order to calm himself so he could do this next task. As he felt his pulse slow down to a more manageable pace, he took the time to take in the room's features. He didn't blink an eye at the spartan like furnishing, as it was a constant throughout the entire fortress. In all truth, he was more comfortable here than he would ever be at the King's palace, what with all of its needless decorations and troublesome furniture that required near constant care. The thought of what it all must cost only annoyed Caden at how extravagant the King's palace decorators were. But he pushed aside those feelings, trying to focus on what he had come to this room to do. Near the center of the room stood a large and sturdy desk piled high with an assortment of different papers of varying sizes and color. Caden almost groaned at how large the pile had grown since he had left to deal out the King's wrath just a few nights before. Caden approached the desk and sat down in the chair that stood next to it, feeling the distinct urge to sweep aside all of the papers and simply sitting in silence, but he only only sighed in resignation. The General's job isn't all blood and adrenaline. He repeated that phrase in his head again a few times over as he opened the first report, noting that at the moment, none of the reports were identified to be urgent. He readied a stack of letter papers and pen at his side, one hand ready to write as the other held the report close enough to his face that he could read it. He skimmed over the page, only reading in detail after he identified there was no sense of urgency. As soon as he was certain that all was clear, he quickly jotted down a small note to be delivered to man, telling him to continue with his previous orders with little to no change. The general sighed as he closed the note, placing it in a new stack for outgoing letters. He knew he would be at this for hours, and he knew that this was going to be insufferably dull. The King's advice on Caden hiring out more secretaries to filter through the reports came to him, but he almost immediately turned that thought down with the taste of distrust towards anyone he could hire entering his mind.- 5114 replies

Chaotic Light: A CBST-Verse Adventure
The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
The creature would have preferred death, and it prepared to end its own life. However, a second voice in its head spoke, although it was nearly indistinguishable from the first. It spoke in remembrance of the power of Narrators, and the creature's attitude shifted. The voices melded to thinking in unison in such a way that it felt as if they were, and always had been one mind. Its doubts were clear over Star's devotion to her cause, but it really saw no other choice. -

Caden slammed his fists into the door over and over again trying to get the Raveness to listen to him for what felt like hours, but must have only been minutes. He grit his teeth, determined to deal with her when she eventually came out. He motioned for one of his personal guards to watch over the room before marching to his office, fists still clenched.- 5114 replies

Chaotic Light: A CBST-Verse Adventure
The Ward's Guard replied to Zephrun’s Imperium's topic in Roleplaying
The creature's mind blazed through countless thoughts and ideas on how to kill Star, or even just escape from its current entrapped position. Over and over again it reviewed scenarios and ideas, with actually accepting the Narrator's offer not even being considered. It would rather end itself than give its abilities over to one of those Narrators and help her achieve whatever harm she wished to do to the people of this world. -

Caden turned back to ask Riva what she meant, but was instead met with the sight of the Raveness sprinting down the hallway. He paused, at a loss for words at the sight until she had reached his bedroom door, at which he quickly found the right curses for the situation. "Blazing woman, what do you think you're doing!" He charged after her, trying to reach the door before she got inside.- 5114 replies
