  1. Kaesiel walked to the far end of the cavern. “All right, what I’m doing is Manifesting a microscopic lattice of carbon tubes between the atoms of stone, thus creating nanoscale fissures that destabilize the rock and make it vulnerable to further forces applied. This can get explosive, and may take a few minutes, so it would be best if you all stand back and try to delay for me.” Kaesiel laid her hands on the wall, Manifesting outward the Notion she had taken from the Necromancer earlier. A large section of the wall began to shake as dust and chunks of rock broke free.
  2. “I could blast us a hole. It won’t be subtle, but it will get us out.”
  3. “There are two copper wires on the back. Touch them together and it should activate. Fair warning this one is small, it’ll only cover about fifteen cubic meters.”
  4. Kaesiel smoothed down her hair, pulling a large metal plate from her bag. “This may help. It’s a sort of... shield, I suppose. Very rudimentary. Turn it on, and any nonorganic matter not being worn or carried passing through it will be instantly vaporized.” Kaesiel began pumping Notion from herself into the device, charging it up. “It can’t last long, Probably only a round or two of heavy fire.”
  5. Ara winced, looking at her feet. “Well, if you ever want to... I’m here. And so is Exodus.”
  6. “If that is truly within your capabilities, I don’t see why not.”
  7. “Oh, it’s good plan, just not perfect. For example, I would recommend capturing some for interrogation.”
  8. “I’m would prefer something with a little more tact. Given present company, though, that may be difficult, so I’ll settle for this.”
  9. They were already talking! Perfect! “That’s fine. You don’t have to tell me. Just remember, Exodus is here too, you can confide in him if you don’t feel comfortable with me. You two need to be a team, too, after all!” Of course, it would be nice if you were comfortable with me, too. Ara took a cookie and started eating.
  10. Ara nodded, determinedly. I wonder how he knows about my fighting capabilities. Did he watch me and the bear? He must have been following us for awhile, too awkward to join in. He didn’t seem socially awkward, but maybe Ara could make him feel more at home. Maybe him and Minuet could be friends! Ara walked off to eat, idly concocting plans to get the two to become friends. Memory hovered. It did not trust the one with many names. It lied. Memory could sense it. The patterns of deceit in the human’s thoughts. It tried to warn Ara, but she brushed off it’s concerns. She was too trusting. It would kill her someday. The many named one would kill her. And then Memory would be alone in the dark again. Memory had to take action on its own. Ara said killing was bad, so it couldn’t solve the problem the simplest way. It needed to drive the ground apart. Ara wouldn’t like it, but she always said you should help even those who didn’t seem like they want it. Memory was just following her advice.
  11. Kaesiel perked up. What were those mental signatures appearing on the outside of her vision? She stood, readying herself.
  12. “I really haven’t. I suppose I’ve been some help, but...” Ara steadied herself. “I’ll do better. I promise. I’ll make myself worth it to you.”
  13. “I don’t know. It’s stupid. Don’t worry about me. I’ll just try not to be a burden when we get into battle.”
  14. “I... I froze last time we got in a fight.” Ara looked at her feet. “I’m really no use.”
  15. Ara stuck out her hand. “Nice to meet you, Exodus!”
  16. “Well, I don’t think a name is too much. What is your name, then?”
  17. *Gasp* How could a fellow Jester do such a thing?
  18. “Actually, I think most people are more trustworthy than you give them credit for.”
  19. Sequence hummed excitedly. “Sooo many lieeees!”
  20. So far I’m really liking getting to know Bucky and Falcon a lot more. I never really felt like they were well-developed enough in the movies (not due to any fault of writers, they just didn’t have the time to spend on them). I really like both of them individually, though I don’t love their dynamic together.
  21. And here it is. Ara turned to Cara, not sure what to say. “I... goodbye. We’ll meet again. I promise.” Then, she turned and followed Exodus.
  22. This hit a little too close to home.
  23. “Mmmmm... yes. Listen to him. You humans are so fragile. Shadesmar is too dangerous for you for now.”
