The thing doesn't rise again- it seems to melt into the ground, completely disappearing. The second thing, seeing the other melt into the ground, leaps off Melvin and flees into the nearby alleyway. A moment of silence. "What was that?" Asks Vaavu, who had stayed back during the quick skirmish.

The all of the shots hit it directly, doing no direct damage that you can see, but causing it to scream, a horrible grating sound that claws at your ears. The thing is also very strong- however, you manage to tear it off of you and send it skidding.

Probably whatever caused these weird effects." says the short one. "I mean, obviously- but what is it?" "It's probably a goat." "What?!" "You heard me- a goat. "That's... awfully specific." "I know. It just seems... right." "Oh, right. It's probably the weird gravity messing... AHHHHH!" The short one flew into the air- he had walked right into one of the disturbances that plagued the area. "Ha! The goat is saying I'm right!" "It's not a goat!" "Okay, you can believe that." He says as the short man falls back to the ground with a thump. "Ouch."

"We should probably not linger- we just need to get Granny out." As we enter into the diner, it's completely empty, the chairs flipped upside down on top of the tables. Grace runs behind the counter and into the kitchen. Inside is a old woman in her late 60s/early 70s who is wiping down a countertop. "Granny Newell! There's a fire near us. We need to get out of here! "Hmm? A fire? Oh dear. Joel called in sick this morning, so I was going to send you right back home today anyway. I hope the diner is going to be alright!" "I'm sure it'll been fine- I'm pretty sure the fire department will be here any minute now." "Oh, good. And who is this?" She says in reference to the boy. "Uh..."

@Ookla the Channelknight @Vapor It simply bounces off of it, and as it closes the gap it leaps at you and knocks you down. In addition, from behind a second of these beasts slashes at Melvin's back.
