"Uh... I don't know? This was always the more obscure side of the Metallic Arts.... Like, does this give me resistance to my own heat? If I get hot, will I just die normally? That would be a letdown..."

"Alright..." I begin to push an aspect of myself into the metal, and a chill runs through me- literally, I feel colder. I draw it back it and I warm up, almost as if I was wrapped in a blanket. "Huh. I'm a warmth storer- what were they called? Firesouls? Of course- I barely know anything about firesouls. At least I'm not like, Connection or something."

I drag my hand across them as well- when I pass over one, a copper-gold colored plate, I feel a jolt as I can feel it. "Ah! Here we go- now, what metal is this? Copper? No, that's the wrong color- uh... is it bronze? Brass? Wait. I think it's brass. What do you store as brass again?"

I had seemed to try and say something during the exchange with the shopkeep, but I choked up and just shut my mouth. Once he left, however, in a quiet voice, I say "We should probably check if we're Feruchemists too. Who knows, maybe we're Twinborn."

Okay, okay, good. There was a large group of people around him he could blend in with. He wasn't expecting to be in a pre-existing world, but this works too. At least he wouldn't have to learn a new magic system. Wait- magic! "We should probably try and get some metals, to see if it's one of those stories where we become magic as well."

"OHoohooho" went my panicked breathing as my worst nightmare and greatest dream came true at the same time. Finally, something inexplicable- magic- had happened! And oh no oh dear please no, something inexplicable had happened. I mean, yay, but why did it have to be a story where he got dropped directly into a strange new world? Okay, calm down. We aren't underground, and the walls look rather normal. Maybe it's just like some modern analogue world where everything is nearly identical, but not quite in geography or something? I mean, no magic, but at least I wouldn't have to learn anything new about things and have awkward conversations? Also, I hope that I wasn't the only person transported.
