  1. Trutharchivist knocked the door of the facility. "Hello? I'm mildly afflicted with Brandofandonitis, with a more severe case of Random Obsessions Disorder. Can I come in?"
  2. It is an enjoyable practice, but I don't do it much. Perhaps I should try practicing it more. TPBM knows the feeling of being half asleep, half awake, unable to recall things on your own but does recall with help.
  3. Gal looked around him, confused. Did they talk about... Universe-destroying bombs? He recalled that his world was in actual danger, he should... A note was inserted into the room, from behind the door he just came out of. He turned around to the sound, his owlish ears standing. The note has his name on it, and was folded to two. He opened it and read to himself: "We regret to inform you that your world was put into stasis. Your friends are scattered elsewhere, but you shall wait in this room until your world is freed or we find a new world for you." He shook his head confusedly. What, in the Great Owls' name, did "put into stasis" mean? You can't do that to worlds, he thought, looking up to the man with the bomb in the box... Now can you? He walked toward the nearest available sofa, put his backpack down by it and sat on it, extremely confused.
  4. Gal Owlson stumbled in, and looked around himself, confused. "This is not the book shop." He said. "And where are the others?"
  5. The first option, I believe, resembles what I offered. The second, though... It won't work. The Cultivation cannot affect sapient creatures, and non-sapient creatures can't really lie or tell the truth. The last option is similar to what I did with the owls, which might need some revision.
  6. The ending was very confusing, I agree, but for most of the episode I think I understood what was happening.
  7. Hmmm... Yeah, I guess it makes some kind of sense. Did you mean it as an opposite to the snakes' Deception Center? If so, it would be really interesting to put dragons in this slot, since there is a connection between dragons and snakes; in fact, the original myth of Kadmus is unclear (as far as I recall) about whether the son of Ares he killed was a snake or a dragon, and either way Kadmus became a snake in the end. The only problem is that I tried to work with a specific template, and in this template the place of the snakes doesn't call for an opposite. Also, truth won't work as a Center in the way I defined it, I believe; Truthfulness and Sincerity might. Now, how will this Center work? Harvest - it makes a person less willing to share truths, personal or general. To make it a good opposite to the Deception Center of the Snakes, they should, by Planting, cause people to not only conceal information but outright deceive - which makes sense, seeing to the fact that's the Center's name. The Truthfulness Center Planting will make people more truthful, sincere and willing to share information. But the real question is, what will the Cultivation look like? I don't want it to be merely "revealing illusions", since it would make their powers dependable in the snakes' powers, deeming them useless. So, I don't know. Revealing the true nature of things, perhaps? It can be something like making a poison mushroom look poisonous for everyone that sees it, and such of the likeness. It can be useful for multiple things. Maybe they'll open portals between universes by showing that once upon a time, those universes were, essentially, one and the same. The Fertilization will be naturally, them being unable to lie, and complied to be truthful and sincere.
  8. I must say that I don't really get that - care to elaborate? Great choices! Though I disagree with the last one. Gaze isn't, in any way, a big, slow person, and that's how chulls are seen in Roshar. He's not a whitespine or anything. Perhaps a skyeel.
  9. Nope! I'd say my religion has something to do with it, since it doesn't allow touching someone of the other sex. Also, the fact that I was in a male-only area for 14 years didn't help. Are you the one who gave me reputation in the previous page? If so, why? If not, can you help me find the one who did? BTW, @Tani, I upvoted you for adding the why. That's the spirit!
  10. Clearly, the egg. Eggs are, after all, breakfast things, while chicken are eaten at lunch. What scares you the most, in fantasy and reality?
  11. Vaguely. Very vaguely. And there's a movie from my childhood that I do remember the name of, and I wanted to find the soundtrack of, but it seems that at least Wikipedia didn't hear of it. TPBM were once asked where they come from (abroad), while speaking their native language.
  12. Dragons could theoretically work - I did say that a multiverse was included. But why truth as their Center? Please add reasoning.
  13. Well, more like average. There may or may not gasp be authors I might prefer over Brandon. Maybe. TPBM revisited a childhood classic lately.
  14. Interesting... I thought at first to give Sazed elephant for memory, but elephants are renown for their memory, IIRC, because they hold grudges for a long time. Kell makes sense, I guess. We have a confirmation that he's a cat person, too, I believe. Kal, though... I disagree. He doesn't hide away from things that much, IMO.
  15. This idea was inspired by this thread, which did that to only SA characters. I encountered it while searching for discussions on His Dark Materials, but that's a story for another day. The OP there is: So there you have it. I agree with the Kaladin choice wholeheartedly, and the Nava I one. Not sure about Shallan. For Dalinar I'll go with something offered there in another post - a bear, probably a grizzly bear. Or a panserbjørne (sorry... Kind of had to). The others I less agree with, and there are many options offered in the original thread - do read it, it's not very long. Anyway, my picks for other Cosmere characters: - Vin: a little owl, maybe. Some kind of small, deadly nocturnal animal, I think. Though I might base it too much on her fighting skills. - Kelsier: an equally deadly animal, but a diurnal one, I think. More direct and brutal than Vin's. A hawk or an eagle. - Sazed: an owl, I should think. A barn owl, or something similar, for wisdome. I'm not completely sure of my examples, I'd like to hear more from you. What do you think?
  16. Nice. I had a Seder with my paternal grandparents - they came over to us. They claim that this is one of the only places they can go where it is done the "proper" way - my father is very keen on keeping the familial minhagim. We had familial meetings of both sides, and I somehow still managed to sit and watch TV series in my PC for a big part of Chol Ha'moed. Instead of writing the history of Judaism during the last two centuries... Sorry about that, hopefully I'll actually do it one day. Maybe I overreacted... Sorry.
  17. No, he does not. Admittedly, it's due to a technicality, but it works for me. Also, IIRC, he sells it for a donut pretty quickly, so he probably owns no souls. TPBM have trouble rising in the mornings.
  18. I would, but... I'm on Sel. Part of the ruling class, actually. Too busy helping to run the Rose Empire, so I can't help you.
  19. After finishing a bowl of cereal, do you: a. Add more cereal without adding milk, b. Add cereal AND milk, c. Add milk and then add cereal, d. Drink the milk, or e. Other? Given the choice between living in a fantasy worlds of your choosing or living in this world, which world will you choose? (If a fantasy world, please answer which.) Do you often find yourself humming or singing songs from musical you're currently rehearsing?
  20. חג פסח שמח וכשר! Sadly, I'm on my phone so I can't align it to the other side. Oh well. Anyway, good luck at the Bdikah tonight! (I have no idea how to spell it...)
  21. So far, it appears we're three people. Great! Yeah... That makes sense. Anyway, if you want to join at any point you'll be welcome. Is there a reason that all the people to join are relatively new?
  22. Thanks for replying! First thing first: yes, it's going to be on the Shard. Either as a thread at the spoiler area (which might be a bit problematic) or as a PM. You're not alone here in binge reading - obviously so, but I'm far from being the worst case. Don't know if you saw the RoW reaction thread when it came out, but some people finished it in one day. Reading all of Mistborn in a week is big, but reading RoW in a day is... Well... I believe the proper word is "insane". Anyway, I see your point. Ideally, I think we could see the length of each novel and divide it in a way that'll allow us to finish it exactly in time for the next one, though it'll make the pace irregular. The thought is appreciated, but is problematic due to one simple problem: so far, it seems that there aren't many people jumping on the idea. If there will be, and there'll be enough people interested in different places, we'll do it. But if not... Well, I guess we can just decide on a different pace, that's all. Edit: on another note, I just noticed that you're (relatively) new here. Welcome to the Shard! The place for all the crazy people who binge-read thousand pages fantasy books in a day (or three), where most people are polite and nice, but you'd better avoid the cookies - some of them are spiked. Where people can be socially awkward bookworms and yet be extremely active on the social parts.
  23. So, um, another weird and pointless status update! I post them with extreme irregularity, I know. Anyway, I just wanted to try to distribute an idea I had through here. Sorry if this disturbs you in any way. The idea was to start an online discussion group on the secret projects (mostly for those who didn't read the preview chapters) when they come out, that'll read them at the rate if chapter per week. Here is a link to the thread I already started about it.

  24. All right. Final (and second... I give up quickly) try. I'll explain the idea, and see if anyone is interested. Basically: we'll read and discuss a chapter each week, starting from the time the majority of the participants can read the book. Spoilers for further chapters are allowed only hidden in a spoiler box. It's recommended not to read too much ahead of the group - preferably, we'll all read at the same rate. It's different from just reading them at the rate they come out because there are some amazingly crazy people (such as myself) who succeeded in finishing RoW in three days or less, and they might finish those novels in one night. (Yep, that's definitely what I'll do without a reading group!) So, do you want to join? If so, please do. Thank you for reading either way!
