  1. "A little, yes. I have better hearing. Gladly, my eyes didn't get too much wolf in them - their sight is really horrible, and without the upside of the sense of smell... But I guess I digress." He looked thoughtful for a moment, then asked, "What course are you taking here? I went for necromancy."
  2. "Wolfson." Said Ben. "Mostly, at least - I think I have some Owlson blood, on my mother's side." He hesitated. "So your eyes are falcon eyes? Raptor eyesight is amazing, don't the sunglasses... Get in the way a little? Though I understand not wanting to get odd looks."
  3. "Yeah, I can see that happening." Said Ben. "People react weirdly go things they're not used to. May I ask what kind of Wanderer are you?" He added, curious.
  4. Welcome to the Shard! And thank you for reading my magic system. I'll try to answer your questions by order. 1. Harvest doesn't exactly leak, but Fertilization does take some Harvest, and it's a passive use of the magic system. So it sort of decays with time, I guess. 2. Society and politics are the most underdeveloped parts in this world, unfortunately. I guess there might be some tension between different sapient species, and between different mindgardeners. The thing is, the mindgardeners are generally animals, though there are exceptions. They don't live within human - or any other sapient species - society, or even much with each other. They don't really act that much like animals, admittedly, but they don't act much like sapients, either. They're not much liked though. And Wanderers mostly live in exile, unwanted by the regular society. How severe are the tensions? Different species of the Faunologos have different Centers, which function somewhat like Intent in the Cosmere, I guess. Due to that, creatures with opposing Centers are not going to like each other. I can't really say how severely, but they might fight each other whenever they meet. Which, admittedly, isn't too often. 3. No. The mindgardening abilities are something natural to the Faunologos, not inherent for sapient creatures. It's due to the symbolic nature of the magic system - sapient creatures don't symbolise anything in particular, they can represent everything, in theory, since they contain all the potential Centers naturally. That's why it doesn't come naturally to sapients - about animals In general I still need to think up why the Faunologos are different from regular animals. 4. No fabrial-esque, I'm afraid. Mostly, I intend to have them with more medieval technology, like a traditional fantasy world. I probably should consider changing that, though. 5. For now, not much notable figures. Though I really need to think about it more. Thank you for asking those questions! When I'll have more time to consider, I'll think of better answers. As I see it, people asking questions is what makes me see the holes and problems with this magic system, and helps me clarifying things. So, no matter how poorly-thought you think those questions, they are actually quite helpful.
  5. "Oh." Ben said. "It's fine. As you can probably see, I'm a Wanderer too." He giggled. "Sometimes people think I'm old because of that. I've seen some weird eyes, but I guess not all kinds. If you're more comfortable with them it's fine, though I'm guessing you're not going to sleep with them..."
  6. Ben Shaked his hand. "Nice to meet you, too." He said. He hesitated for a minute, then said: "May I ask why you're wearing sunglasses? We're indoors, after all."
  7. Look at it inquiringly for a couple of seconds, then put it in my wallet and ask my family if any of them lost some foreign currency coins lately. What would you do if you found a recipe that says it's for "the elixir of life" in your pocket?
  8. Oh, look, there are a couple of weird sticks in the creature's stomach, do you happen to know what those are? You should tell them stories, of course.
  9. So, there was a try at starting a trend of "what would you do if you found x in your pocket" in the ask ANYONE anything thread. I thought that it has better be a different forum game, so here we are. Rules: there are no rules! Though, actually there are. You don't necessarily have to post a new thing that you found in your pocket, though it's advisable, but you have to say what would you do if you found the one from the previous reply. You can, in theory, say "a golden ring that grants invisibility", but it's frowned upon, and people may ignore that. To make it shorter, you can use the acronym WWYDIYFIYP... Or just find another shortage, that one's too long. Tagging the people who started the trend: @dannnnnnex and @Sequence. I'll start: what will you do if you found a USB stick in your coat pocket? (Not very creative, but give me some slack.)
  10. "Sounds good," said Trutharchivist. I just might want to refresh my knowledge of shadowrealms before... But no, I guess I can learn on the run. When do we start?"
  11. Ben looked up, hearing the door opens. "Hello! I guess you're my roommate? I'm Ben Ze'evy, a freshman. You?"
  12. Be extremely confused, turn to the person next to me and ask him whether he dropped it. Sorry, I'm somewhat contaminated with a chaoticness virus. Probably I'll just release it. How would you like opening a different thread for thing you found in your pockets?
  13. Trutharchivist gestured at the newcomer. "See? Lots of people have staffs." He turned toward him. "Hello and welcome. I am Trutharchivist, keeper of the Staff of Life. And you are?"
  14. All right. Breaths deeply.

I had an idea that started from the Sharder Lair Discord server, and I wanted to share it here. We'll see how well it works.

The idea was creating a server for random, blind discussions with people on the internet. Something like, "I know this person and that person, and their opinions on that topic, I'm interested to see what happens when they meet." So this'll be the place for you to invite them (so that they want have to sign in to an online forum on books they perhaps didn't read), and for you to talk with people you mightn't normally meet, due to similar reasons.

The server is currently still under construction - I'm trying to figure out how to build it - but I think it's fine to have other people join. So, I'll share an invitation here, and you can enter if you're interested. Ideas for additions are welcome.

Here's the link. Thank you for reading, and have a good morning/day/afternoon/evening!

  15. "Oh. If so, then... I guess that the Staff of Life is a good name. There aren't many staffs with that name, right?" He hesitates. "I can also call it Hovlim, if 'the Staff of Life' is already caught."
  16. "... I'm literally holding a staff of the first kind. This is the one I keep. Its name, sadly, is lost in time. Otherwise, my title would be a little more descriptive." He blinked once. "Was that me, getting infected by your... randomness? Hmm..."
  17. "Oh, we're doing introductions? I'm Trutharchivist, keeper of the Staff." Said Trutharchivist. "I'm... related to Emmet, the boy that just was here. I came right over when I realized the surrounding here won't do him much good."
  18. Excuse me, what did you just throw to the oven? Mein Kampf.
  19. "We're talking about shadowrealms? Huh. I probably should study them a bit. Well, I guess I'll join in this adventure. For... Education." While the man said it, peculiar patterns grew on his stuff, and his eyes glee for a moment with a yellowish light.
  20. You both are going to do puns for all of Genesis, aren't you. I'm sorry, I can't offer much aid with that. Something that might be of interest: the Yeshivah in which I learn, the Gush Yeshivah, has multiple lessons on the bible. The most notable people in my Yeshivah related to that, in my opinion, are Rav Yaaqov Medan, Rav Yoel Bin-Nun and rav Mordechai Breuer z"l (only the last one, the former two are still alive and healthy). Unfortunately, their writings are, as far as I know, only in Hebrew. An interesting note I wanted to make is that rav Breuer thought up an alternative to the Documentary Hypothesis, which he called Shitat Habechinot, or the aspects approach. To any Hebrew speaking person interested in the bible (well, what the Christians call the Old Testament, at least), I highly recommend watching rav Medan's lessons in YouTube.
  21. You know, you're probably better off Forging your own soul. Or using Forgery for other stuff, like faking paintings or something.
  22. Emmet shied away from those... Scary, enormous tasks. Then, suddenly, a square, white portal opened besides him and a man stepped out. He placed his hand on Emmet's shoulder. "I'll take care of it, kid. Please hand me the staff and you can go." Emmet nodded, handed the man his staff and walked through the portal. The man stood there, the staff in his hand and a bag on his back. "Ready when you are." He said calmly.
