Hey that's really cool then! It's awesome that you have found a use for it especially with an author who you enjoy! That's cool that he writes that way as well, do you think he's doing it for stylistic preference, so only a select few can read it, or just to honor the tradition of it? (or none of these lol :D)

It's mostly because his story is set in the old China, and so he had his character write poems(to honor the tradition). Tho I think another reason is because he wanted to challenge himself, I think he once wrote a book and if you combine each chapter name it would become a poem.

Dangit it was going so well!!! Lmao that's actually kinda tragic if you're gonna do that wouldn't it just make more sense to to learn the new rules cuz it would actually be useful???

True, but also... not true. There's an author I really like, he often write poems in his novels in the old Chinese. That's the only use I've found for the old Chinese

My dad served his LDS mission in Taiwan and then lived there for a few years afterwards.

One time he and his sister were staying at either a super fancy restaurant or very prestigious university campus (I don't remember which and I don't know why they were there) but every time they walked through the lobby the workers would but up a screen in front of them so that the rich people who stayed there wouldn't see the poor white foreigners.

Weird, from my experience, things are usually more like this

Ohh look, is that an American? Why don't you go talk to him...to practice your English

This might not be true for rich people. Or it could be for religious reason(tho it’s very unlikely) Or it might just be because we are a lot less friendly than we think we are. Anyway, I sorry that your dad had a terrible experience.

@Scout_Fox yes you’re right, Chinese is a lot more complicated. Because of that, who ever wrote the text book decided it would be easier for us not to learn all the rules. If that make sense.

If you really want to correct every grammar mistake I’ve ever make @Condensation, you would go mad.:D

Same. And as a fellow Asian, I'd like to ask you whether or not Star Wars is a HUGE HIT in your country. I'm pretty sure less then 1/6 of my country's population have watch it.

      Reveal hidden contents

The Avengers is far more famous

      Reveal hidden contents

    And I haven't watch it

    *seen or watched, not watch.

Look, I gave up trying to learn grammar in July, there's just too many rules. Now I just type whatever felt right.:D

Also, in Chinese we have only one tense, and we only learn a few (two that I can remember) small grammar rules here.

I'm almost halfway through Warbreaker and there's nothing sexual yet?   At least if there was it might get more interesting..!

I'm liking the Siri, Lightsong and Vasher bits but Vivenna is really a pain to read.  Glad I'm not alone in this opinion and have decided to start skimming her parts.

At which point can I expect things to pick up?

No sure what you mean by sexual (do you mean a real sex scene, or just reference?:))

    Annotation--Warbreaker Chapter 6 https://www.brandonsanderson.com/annotation-warbreaker-chapter-six/

    Spoiler

Brandon said he himself is perhaps more conservative than most of his readers in this area. so... you could kind of guess what you can expect.

Yeah, Vivenna was my least favorite POV character, too.(try not to skip too much from chapter 35 might be a good idea, she is kinda important)

That really depends on your definition of things speeding up, but for me things got better from chapter 35 or so.
