  1. LOL, I've been fighting the good fight to get my current girlfriend reading Mistborn, maybe my offering to narrating it will be novel enough to win her over XD. Until then I've got Michael and Kate to keep me company haha. Thinking about it now, trying to mimic Michael in the HUGE range of voices and cadence he has while narrating is probably a blast. I've always been particularly fond of how he does Loial, Szeth, and Mat. And he always nails the humor!
  2. heretic! its supposed to be the other way around!
  3. fml XD. I meant what RedBlue originally did, that she was purposefully letting people know she had the ability to soulcast.
  4. forgive me - I wrote what I did under the assumption that in that situation Jasnah was displaying her ability to Soulcast via radiant powers, not a fabrial. The limit of what wild stuff jasnah could or could not have done with the normal soulcaster + her powers to still abate suspicion i do not know, but yeah, normal soulcasting, even stuff that skirts the limits of normal, would not have done anything to be questionable Absolutely yeah. She'd def have her cover blown, but only by those well in the know, who'd probably figure it out pretty quickly.
  5. I think he meant foregoing the guise of using the fabrial and just using the surge to do the deed, though I may have misinterpreted what he wrote!
  6. Unless she's also displaying her Soulcasting ability to the authorities, I'm inclined to believe it would get written off as wild rumor. Three street thugs pronouncing that the Princess of Alethkar has turned their fourth vagrant friend into smoke without a working soulcaster. It's almost like an Onion article written by the Ardentia XD
  7. Perhaps, if Kal is marked by honor in the same way Vin was by Preservation, that's why Syl found him out and bonded him - whatever connections exist or existed between Tanavast, the Stormfather, and Syl have now trapped Kal in their web.
  8. I understand this; I was making light of the fact that all of these factors make that core, fixed power level - the strength of the connection - a lot harder to identify. For example, we hear time and time again about Elend being at base, stronger, while Vin has much more finesse, making their fight-strength, you could say, more even, masking their base power. Other magic systems give us much easier, even numerical ways to quantify power power levels with things like the oaths and breaths/heightenings. Correct on the weight, but to look at it a step further - if you have two coinshots with the same base power, the heavier one can produce a stronger steelpush; Force = Mass * Acceleration. Just another tiny wrench in there. Do we know for a fact that Kel had a weak connection to preservation? IK he needed that orb to ascend and take the shard, but could the average connection to preservation afforded to someone by being mistborn just not be enough to ascend to begin with? Could also have been something else getting in the way, like Kels intent being too far off from Preservation that he needed a stronger connection
  9. We know that Raysium (by way of the spears the Heavenly Ones use, and Raboniels dagger) conducts investiture, though we aren't 100% if it naturally does in only one direction or if the Raysium weapons we've seen were polarized in some way. I wonder, if like alloying metal with Lerasium you can become a misting or something from a different magic system, that you could alloy Raysium, or add a fabrial in some fashion, to cause it to channel other things?
  10. Valda is a great comparison to current Moash's motivation, not there. Also, I'd probably edit and spoiler bar that last sentences. We def have a lot of WoT fans here, and I doubt everyone here who wants to has seen the show yet
  11. I am VERY hopeful that we get grandiose acts of hemalurgy / fabrial creations like this. Something like (Spoiler for the anime Psycho-Pass) or (Spoiler for Naruto: Shippuden) or (ENOURMOUS spoiler for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) Can't wait to see magic pushed to its limits and spliced together for nutty results like these
  12. True! Hemalurgy should def work, we know it can steal a lot of wonky stuff on top of normal things: There is this one too: Larger hive minds would get tough this way though, needing to be spiked for each thrall/member would leave you more porcupine than person lmao. I wonder if you can have an intermediary somehow, someone to jam a bunch of spikes into, and then a single pair of spikes linking them to you.
  13. Totally! I guess I didn't really address that part of ur post - 100%, just look at Bridge 4, they're all Windrunners, and all have unique personalities: Kal, Sigzil, Lopen, and Moash for example. Sure, they all have a desire to protect, but their views on other things can and will differ occasionally. I gave barely a seconds thought to there being real Cognitohazards, those are great real-world examples, I now see exactly what you mean. And I thought for CERTAIN I knew what was behind that spoiler bar but I was wrong, though I had heard of that one and similar. Here is what I thought it was, though I too warn, click and see/learn at your own risk. Thanks again for sharing! Going to explore some more now that I'm off work, and probably will at work tomorrow too LOL
  14. Neither am I for that matter haha, I've just taken a surface level interest. I know it can get clunky compartmentalizing every person and character into 16 categories, but for broad stroke descriptions its helpful and fun! I love seeing the general consensus on where characters fall. I'm an INTJ-T myself, and while not the case for everyone, the descriptions for the type are me to a T. Very interesting! I knew vaguely about the concept of infohazards, and loved the idea of cognitohazards whenever they came up in fiction, like people going mad from seeing Lovecraftian old gods and ofc the scores of SCP articles. Just just spent some time skimming a few professional articles - I'd never really given a thought to the ethics of the spread of information. Lets just say I am now very much in your camp concerning the freedom of information - lots could be much better off if there was a stricter dissemination of a lot, but I digress LOL! Thank you for sharing!
  15. Very! It must be something like we answered half the same and half opposite lol. Suprised Lightweaver was low for you, the two seem tangential in my mind in a lot of ways, though who am I to know. I wonder what the variation of answers is like for each order, if like, not making guesses just using random examples, most people who get Windrunner end up answering super similarly while people who get Truthwatcher are all across the board. You ever take an MBTI test? Yeah Bondsmiths and Elsecallers seem opposite in a lot of ways, kinda like how Dalinar struggles to understand Jashah, though she is by no means the average person, or Elsecaller for that matter haha. Elsecaller leadership seems less grandiose than Bondsmith, more intimate strategy as opposed to broad worldly planning.
  16. Could memory have intent? Like, you only put the most vile, violent thoughts and memories into the Coppermind, or recreate the same thought / experience over and over to constantly store it? Maybe, eventually, when invested enough, it takes sentience and starts to act on the memories? Lol
  17. The leadership is piecewise for me! When it comes to some things I get annoyed if I'm not in charge, where in other situations I definitely prefer to take a role like you described. Elsecaller was actually my only Order above 50%, also at 69%, the next ones were Truthwatcher, Lightweaver, Skybreaker, in that order, all in the high 40's. Skybreaker def took a dive as I leaned into Spirit > Word of the Law (jasnah alley moment lmao). Good thing I'm happy with Elsecaller cuz it look like I'm never becoming a Bondsmith LMAO
  18. Awesome, on point with the references, tyty. If anything, the investiture directly from Preservation should have a strong Connection to the shard (itself I guess?), though what difference that makes IDK.
  19. IDK honestly, power levels in Mistborn always seemed like a bit of a black box to me, with everyone able to alter the strength of their pushes and pulls by how quikcly they burn/flare metal, and with weight altering things too. A good point, though IMO enough points the other direction that there is likely something that explains this as opposed to things explaining all the rest. Where is that from? Not being picky, I just dont remember haha. Is connection made up of investiture, or is it just some abstract scalar value? Because if it's the former, both of our points can still be correct - it invests you BY strengthening your connection.
  20. Elsecaller! Was very pleased getting this one, I see a lot of myself in Jasnah - aloof quiet asperity, logical thought superseding emotional, and a lovely tinge of superiority complex. It makes sense thematically as well though, haha, lots of scholars and leaders, self betterment and reaching potential, etc.
  21. Yes! This is further supported by much of the stuff we know about Lerasium. From these we get that burning Lerasium strengthens your connection with Preservation (Vin would be stronger due to her stronger connection to preservation as prior to eating the hypothetical bead she already has a connection to Preservation from being mistborn, thus an additive increase leaves Vin the stronger of the two), and that burning an alloy of Lerasium + X God Metal strengthens your connection with X Shard. There are more WoBs that I know reference Lerasium and Sand Mastery and connecction and other things, so yeah! pretty sure we can say Stronger Connection to the Relevant Shard = Stronger Magic
  22. I think it could work! Unless capital-c-connection to such things can be artificially manufactured, being a part of Bridge 4, or Kelsiers Crew, or some other unique and exclusive group seems to me like it would be an appropriate key. I don't think anything would happen naturally, but some fabrial intermediary that mimics whatever Nahel bond mechanic allows for the exchange of thoughts/ideas/impressions could do the trick?
  23. Forgive my ignorance, but where does each espoused name come from? IIRC Freedom comes from the line where Venli thinks or speaks to something directly quoted as such, but as for the rest, I'm unsure. In book stuff? Popular forum ideas?
  24. I know 16 is important in the cosmere overall, it just seems to me that 16 has the same importance to Preservation as 10 does to Honor, beyond the general significate. And I'm not really looking any further than this. We know some shards have numbers associated with them, I'm just guessing as to which they could be - not trying to solve some great mystery here.
  25. I think that Preservation and 16 have the same relationship that we see with Honor and 10, Odium and 9, Endowment and 5, etc. Sixteen absolutely does have a greater overall significance and association to multiple shards, but the way the number is hardcoded into Preservation's magic system(s, if you count Feruchemy), and the way it shows up in association to him and his decisions matching other shard/number pairings makes me think it's a more intrinsic relationship as opposed to the overall cosmere significance swaying things/decisions.
