I just want to point out that there doesn’t have a to be a specific plot reason for a character to have a certain sexuality. People aren’t gay because something happened in their life, people are gay because that’s just them. So while there may not be a “reason” for a character to be gay, there’s no reason for them not to be either.

What are you playing right now?
The Awakened Salad replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Right now, it’s Breath of the Wild. While I miss the dungeons, the overall atmosphere of the game is just amazing. It’s so calm and peaceful at times, yet violent and crazy at other times, and always with a hint of melancholy. I love exploring hidden corners, and just generally wandering around. I really like making my own stories up when playing games like this, and BotW is perfect for it. You can be a Sheikah, or a fisherman, or a prison runaway with some imagination. And the game itself is so calming! The water sound coupled with the waterside shrine music is just amazing. Once I spent a whole playthrough just riding my horse around Hyrule Field, and I have no regrets. And the landscape itself is just beautiful. Watching the sun set over the sloping hills down to Hyrule Field is just magical. I wish I could play it blind all over again. -

Hey, another Zelda fan! Welcome! I know it’s not Brandon related, but what’s your favorite Zelda game?

Splatoon 2 anyone?
The Awakened Salad replied to Mushroom Catalog's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Sorry, I should’ve phrased my question better. I’m not a big fan of shooters either. In fact, Splatoon’s the only shooter I’ve played dedicatedly. I have tried others (very few I admit) and just haven’t enjoyed them. But I’ve always found Splatoon to be really fun. I think the gameplay differs from other shooters, especially because of the very varied weapon types and the ability to turn into a squid. Seriously, you can use a washing machine, an umbrella, and you’ve probably seen the giant paint roller in the commercials. The objective is never to get the most kills, but killing, or “splatting” as it’s called in the game (because you don’t actually die), does still happen (Quite frequently sometimes, especially in ranked battles. But not in the same dramatic way other shooters deal with it). But it’s not like you’re going out of your way to splat everyone. You’re focused on your main task. I have young cousins and family friends who have all watched me play it and have played it themselves, and have had a great time. The local co-op isn’t all that great (it wasn’t in Splatoon 1, anyway. Not sure if they fixed it in 2), so what we usually do is take turns if we all want to play. However I don’t know if it would work with a large amount of people, due to people getting impatient and all that. You’d be the best judge of that. All in all, I think it’s definitely a fun game (I haven’t actually met anyone who didn’t like it). The controls can be confusing at first but I found them pretty easy to grasp after the tutorial. Based on what you’ve said I think it’s suited to what you’re looking for, but maybe do a bit more research if you can. Watch some gameplay, all that stuff. If you do end up getting it, I hope you enjoy it! -

The Way of Kings (and Stormlight in general) is quite dark in terms of its subject material (slavery, war, attempted suicide, basically everything about the bridge runs), but the tone and themes of the books themselves aren’t really all that dark. As @The Traveller said, Brandon usually gives us hope. I’ve always found that it’s one of the recurring themes in his novels. It’s very obvious in Mistborn and Elantris, maybe less so in Warbreaker, but it’s still very present in Stormlight. The series is about overcoming trauma and finding the strength to keep going, to always take the next step. If that doesn’t scream hope, I don’t know what does. So even though the subject matter is dark, Brandon presents it to us in a way that tells us this gloomy stuff can be overcome.

Fire Emblem Three Houses
The Awakened Salad replied to Pathfinder's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This is literally my feelings about most of the game summed up in one sentence. I’m sure I’d feel a lot better about my CF playthrough if I could somehow recruit Dimitri. Also AM with Dimitri and Claude just sounds so fun. I really, really wish that they had more interactions post-timeskip. VW with Edelgard also sounds cool, but it has the downside of... you know. (Yes, I know I’m very biased). I feel like this sort of recruitment should only be available on a NG+ file though, but maybe that’s just me.
