Trace stood--and waited--just beyond the shore. They wouldn't be able to see her when they first landed; they would when they climbed up past the bay.

"When they get here, I guess I'll just walk out and say hello."

"This is Janice's body. I was told to purify it, and Janice's soul, if possible. She resisted purification for over a decade, so I've opted to try to kill her soul and just purify the body." Trace sighed. "If you want to fight alongside me, that's fine, but only pull me out if it's clear I'm going to fail."

A light appeared on the horizon. "That's them," Trace whispered to herself.

Trace leapt off the cliff, using her pain to create bursts of power; essentially an invisible staircase for her to run down. She'd never tried doing it before, though so her steps were awkward, and when she hit the ground, she hit the ground hard.

Trace looked down the cliff, then took in a deep breath. She pulled out her knife, closed her eyes, and stabbed herself in the arm.

"I don't mind if you come with... just don't try to stop me from doing what I have to do."

"I'll be back in the morning. I wouldn't just ditch Cruz and run away after I gave my word to return."
