Awakening was used as a general term per this WoB: So they used a similar method with different investiture, most likely investiture gathered from spirits somehow. -

The Coppermind has the information you want, although I would be very careful of spoilers if you haven't read the whole Cosmere. You can use the time machine to go back to a version of the Coppermind from before any books you haven't read came out.

An army of reincarnated ghanderflaffles appeared. At their head was the General, the single greatest military strategist in their entire history. The weapons of the ghanderflaffle army glowed with an inverse light, deadly to all undead. As one, they raise their weapons and charge the horde of souls. @Xiahida -
“But I was going the other way!” Arkym looks over his shoulder nervously. “Do you happen to know if Elf land allows extradition to Fairy country?”

Arkyn is already out of earshot and continues swimming in the wrong direction, swiftly sinking out of sight over the horizon.

Arkyn shakes the concrete off his head and keeps attempting to swim in the direction that he thinks is north, that is actually south.

Arkyn doesn't respond as he quickly sinks out of sight.

"Thanks!" Arkyn jumps back into the ocean and starts swimming north.

The individual in question coughs up some water before replying. "My name is Arkyn. I'm not a meerkat. And I don't know the way to Elfland. Do you know the way to Fairycountry?"
