(ROW spoilerish discussion) Moash is not my favorite character, but he's not super hateable to me either. I have noticed a lot of people hate him, but honestly if a king left my grandparents to die in jail for no good reason, that would probably be my villain origin story too, lol.

Nope, I don't hate Moash either! There aren't a lot of us, but there are a few!

I would doubt that. To be so alarming the loss of reachable planets must be recent and it needs to be connected to Shadesmar specifically. "Travel to Bjendal has been completely upset." If you identify Bjendal with First of the Sun, Patji has been being a dangerous passage for times immemorial. Roshar has become a war zone. That getting there is a problem is not that alarming. In fact the proposed treaty does say nothing about continuing the war in Shadesmar.

At the risk of repeating myself, it seems to me that Odium's forces are on the march and attacking subastrals. Thus Bjendal is really a new planet.

Oops, I missed that it's four including Bjendal

How do you know that it has a Shard? If I were looking for allies I look at systems without Shards, so I'd get allies without complications.

It has a Perpendicularity and is called a "primary system"

(Since they counted four... one being Roshar, another obviously being Sel, probably another being Taldain as Autonomy closed the Perpendicularity, and the last being... First of the Sun?)

  4. The other new Cosmere location namedropped was Bjendal

    Quote

Travel to Bjendal has been completely upset. That’s four primary systems we can’t visit without extreme danger, if you count Roshar. I’ve said it for years: The perpendicularities are no longer viable.

And it definitely has a Perpendicularity and a Shard (or an Avatar)

  5. I think I saw those death flags just fine but was just deluding myself *sigh*, goodbye Wayne

A lot of callbacks to era 1 in this book, from Wax’s slaughter (with Vin and... crazy Mistborn guy who could hear Ruin in WoA), Marasi's solution to Trell (with Elend and Atium in HoA), and of course Wayne's choice (and Elend's choice)

Hoid on the boat kinda affected me emotionally, that was also kind of a parallel to him being a light in the dark to Kaladin

Wayne's thoughts in part 1 were phenomenal

I loved Bilming as a setting, much more than Luthadel or Elendel or New Seran, its quite something to imagine

    Also, loved Marsh's intimidation

Cosmere tidbits were interesting here, a planet and a possibly planet / possibly location on the Cognitive Realm was namedropped (I don't think we've heard of Mythos before)

Interesting bits of lore on the Aethers planet (also I'm seriously wondering if the Aethers might seriously not be Adonalsium's)

Oh and our first time seeing a Sho Del on screen... and mention of the Yolish gods... which are apparently still a thing... just what are these things? What is Fainlife? Ugh

Harmony is close to becoming Discord, which was not unexpected. I wonder what that "shadow" of his is, some kind of Avatar or something like that forming?

It feels like future conflict between North and South might happen, and future conflict between Harmony and Autonomy, but much more juicily, future conflict between Harmony and Kelsier, they're both hiding things from one another

  6. I see what you did there

Oh you explained the title in the undertext

(seconding the recommendation for the First Fifteen Lives of Harry August)

(also, now there's nothing for me to read till Crystal Awakening releases at the end of the month, help)

(good god, it's like an addiction problem)

  7. (I should really stop hanging around the spoiler zone for a while but I just couldn't help myself, goddammit)

I'm not too surprised. We never did see the borders of the era 1 map, the potential for the two continents to be connected was always there.

I wondered about this, but I think it is more related to the dust he inhaled after the explosion- I think he is mistborn or something like the others have mentioned on this thread. I get the feeling he has been using steel a lot less recently so it doesn’t make sense as to why he would suddenly start having new savant symptoms. Plus he already has some savant stuff happening with his protective bubble and stuff.

I can't say I expected to read about Wax snorting Godmetal dust today...

  9. Wax is feeling the effects of Savantism

Well, obviously they're trying to get a bomb into the city, that part was a bit obvious. Good deduction to realise the existence of the bombs though

"like a coin balanced on edge… a gulf on either side" ... could be what Trell wants, unbalanced Harmony. A way to kill Harmony.

Trell Invested Scadrial... interesting. Trell having a metal would've been a hint. Hmm... what do you mean Trell Invested Harmony... that shouldn't be possible... is Trell going to turn out to be an Avatar of Harmony?

Ah, Trell Autonomy confirmed. I certainly wasn't expecting to see that answer in a pre release.

    Already don't like Autonomy.

So what, Telsin has something like a Nahel Bond with Trell?

Even with a Trellium spike, it counts as Hemalurgy so Harmony can see, so was it this shroud that hid Paalm before?

Is the last vial for Atium, I wonder... or perhaps Lerasium?

  10. So... Wayne is now a business tycoon... and introducing spectator sports to Scadrial... a very interesting sport too, it seems

    Aw, Steris! Safety protocols, people!

Allik is a total househusband supreme!

Investiture to energy conversion! Oh my, there's potential here

Hahaha, yeah, it does seem better to have the money now, lol

sand medallion is an interesting term for pearl, I like it

All hail Wayne, the best accent coach in the Cosmere!

This was a seriously fancy place; you could tell by their contempt for their customers.

    Hahaha, so true

Making you look a little silly when you were together, so that you didn’t look really stupid when you were apart.

    Yaa

Damn, Brandon is really polishing up his quoteability

Poor Wayne, there's no running from character development

Okay, that closing scene with the investors? Gold. Pure gold.

    Aaaaaaaaa GODMETAL EXPERIMENTS

I'm not ready for this *deep breaths*

Trellium is pulling away from Investiture... hmm... All Investiture, or just Scadrian Investiture?

What happens when you put too much Ettmetal in one place? Ah, it’s a Godmetal, so... Perpendicularity?

Aw, Allik’s adorable, and that interaction was hilarious

Hmm, he's saying the Godmetal itself cannot be divided after it's already been produced, I feel like that's been confirmed by Brandon? Or was it just him saying Godmetals that have already been produced aren't affected by anything happening to the Shard, not the same thing... I don't remember. Hmm... but this process almost worked... perhaps because Harmony is unstable? Ah, Wax thinks the same

Oh my god, I swear if the chapter ends before we get to see the results-

The Ghostbloods are impressed with Marasi!

And of course it ended there

Hmm... but the book is titled The Lost Metal

I say the division was successful (mostly because I find the consequences of that... very, very interesting)

  12. Experiments with Godmetals, I'm so happy to see that!

    ⚠️Cosmere spoilers⚠️

    Spoiler

    Stormlight spoilers

    Spoiler

Those sound like Death Rattles... so Odium?

Hmm... infrared, not ultraviolet, interesting (and I never thought about this before: Trellium and Raysium don't look the same either)... so Autonomy?

Aw, we didn't get Harmonium's colours

Trying to divide Ettmetal into Atium and Lerasium?! Excellent, now that's the kind of thinking we like!

    Godmetals reacting! Oh that cliffhanger!

I wonder why Harmony? wanted Wax to create a Trellium ring, does he expect him to talk to Trell?

I don't see any issue with your account. I have tested and you can access the status update text box both with the Create button at the top on desktop, and also on your Profile. What exactly are you seeing on those screens?

I just tested it, it’s still not working. There's no message saying there's an error or anything like that. It's normal, it looks like it's uploading but it just isn't, instead the... last activity seems to get refreshed (the text that says states the latest topic that I followed refreshes)

Edit: it's working on my laptop. I think it's my phone's new keyboard app or something along those lines, should be fine!

    A very good point.

I believe it is unusual for Investiture alone to give objects a life of their own, as happens in awakening. The other magic systems only give the user limited control over the movement of some objects, compared to Awakening, which gives an objective and the ability to act and react on its own according to the objective.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, as this is just a guess, but is Investiture alone (being pure energy) normally able to do things like this? Yes, the breath is directed by the command, but normally that would just make the object act in a partcular way when commanded, instead of continuing to act/react afterwards.

If Investiture isn't, then does Breath -as opposed to other forms of Investiture- contain Identity or Connection of its own? After all, it is harvested from people who it leaves incomplete afterwards, as if they were missing part of themselves. Or I'm just reading too much into this.

I think it has more to do with the Spiritual Realm than Breaths. It is timeless and remembers what things used to be. Even in the Cognitive Realm, objects remember who they are / were.
