  1. Something that has occurred to me after learning the significants of rhythms on Roshar and likely the greater cosmere is that it should be possible to make a fabrial Shardblade using Honors rhythm. In fact I think it should be possible to replicate any god metal through the use of one of their rhythms though the resulting compound may not be as good as a metal created directly by a god because I don't think mortals could replicate a gods rhythm as perfectly as that god unlike a spren who can get much closer. It may be out of reach for the near future but I think Navani should be capable of creating a Shardblade that does not use a spren living or dead, if I had to guess it would be similar to the sort of Shardblade Azure had in OB less powerful than a living blade but still a formidable weapon. I think this is one of the reasons Odium was so interested in Roshar and the Singers, because of all the creatures we have seen so far in the cosmere the Singers should have been the most capable of figuring out how to make a fabrial Shardblade with their access to the rhythms and Odium could use the fabrial shards to take over the cosmere with the well trained army's of Roshar.

(edit): I just realized that this should probably be moved to lore, magic and cosmere discussion.

  2. So we got the reveal of what Shardplate is in this book (a lot of people have speculated what it was I didn't want it to be lesser spren but unsurprisingly how Brandon wrote it was really good so I like it). What I am wondering is how Renarins plate will work the impression that I got is that Sja-anat does not have that many corrupted spren so will she have to corrupt a ton of spren so Renarin can get living plate? Or will Renarin just keep using Dalinars old plate? Or will Renarin be able to use uncorrupted spren for his plate (that seams unlikely to me)? It seams like Sja-anat will be able to operate more openly now that Odium has a new Vessel so it could be that she will be able to send and corrupt more spren more easily and it wont be an issue.

As someone who is sitting around at 12:10am, I can grumpily say probably soon, but not yet.

I swear Oathbringer popped up on a phone exactly at midnight last time.

Edit: And literally a minute later, there it goes.

I am equally grumpy and also sitting and waiting.

It's an interesting theory, but the problem is that the other spren from Surge fabrials we know (Oathgate spren) behave completely different. They are definitely not sleeping and come in pairs, looking kind of similar to Inkspren. The Soulcaster spren, on the other hand, seems to be singular and of unknown type - it's not a Cryptic (having eyes) or an Inkspren (since Navani must know how they look like). We're missing something bigger here, I think, but it's hard to say what exactly at this point

I know and I did think about that my only possible reason for this is that when they fall asleep something weird happens to them so they become a sleeping humanoid. Maybe their Connection to whatever shard they were connected to vanishes at their radiants death and they just become semi-conscious free floating investiture and they lose their normal spren shape and just become this humanoid thing Navani describes.

  5. I came up with this a little after reading chapter 9 where Navani describes the spren for soulcasters as being asleep. It occurred to me that Syl said she went to sleep after her radiant died I don't remember but I don't think her other radiant had hit the 5th ideal yet (so the affects were not permanent). I also need to point out that Capitan Notum says that the Nahel bond can be broken before the fifth ideal with out killing the spren. So my theory is that the spren used in soulcasters are the spren for knights who died after swearing their 5th oath we know hitting that oath in not common and after that knight dies I think their spren goes to sleep like Syl did after her knight died. After the knight dies the spren kind of just goes to sleep and doesn't wake up and people then figured out how to make soulcasters from the sleeping higher spren.

    * Someone we don't expect (i.e. not Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Renarin or Jasnah) will manifest plate by the end of Book 4

I like this idea I just think it needs to be someone we have had a pov from (when plate gets reviled it seams very likely just for a writing and reading perspective that we will see it happen from a pov) maybe a bridge 4 member.

"Strait up that he intends to kill Dalinar" is very much NOT what happened.  Sadeas was Dalinar's ally in battle, and at the moment he was supposed to come in and join the battle he turned his back. This was calculated betrayal after he swore to put their politics aside and work together.

I was referring to when Adolin does the deed and actually kills Sadeas, Sadeas says he will kill and steal Dalinars legacy ( I'm not 100% he physically said I will kill Dalinar but he does go on about how he will take his legacy and he at least implies that he will kill Dalinar).

If people are defending that Adolin's murder of Sadeas is justiable, than Dalinar by proxy should be killed like twenty times over for burning children. I don't care who does it -- Dalinar, compare to what Sadeas has ever done, is an irredeemable monster. If you think otherwise, than you also agree Adolin (that cremling) deserves to face the consequences for first degree murder and for trying to cover it up.

Sadeas says strait up that he intends to kill Dalinar how would you react if someone said that they were going to kill your father and take everything he as worked to create and say that they were the ones who did it all the work.

I’m terrified that Adolin is going to die. That would be a hard blow for everyone.

the main reason I am holding out hope for Adolin is because too many of the main and major characters have issues but Adolin for the most part in a relatively normal guy (from an emotional stand point) so its good to get his POV on occasion it helps preventing things from getting too dark.

thats one of the reasons he's one of my favorite characters.

An effect of the lighting in Shadesmar?  Without full spectrum light certain colors could appear more muted.  Shallan is the exception here, but she's being directly illuminated by whatever she is soulcasting behind her.

oh I didn't know that, thats cool did the same thing happen to vivenna when she went into Shadesmar with Kal and the rest or was that something to do with her and the royal locks

I sort of doubt it'll be a chapter-by-chapter basis. Dawnshard is supposedly pretty short, and there's already a crunch involved if he wants it out by mid-October; there's no exact release date since he's still writing it, but that's the estimated time. However, if they needed to push it to the week before Rhythm of War, I don't know anyone who would complain. Overall there's just no time for a sort of weekly release, and the size seems to be too small to really encourage it. The Prologue and maybe one chapter is the best we can hope for.

ok thats kind of what I thought would happen thanks.

  12. Do we know if Brandon will do the chapter release thing like he does for the bigger SL achieve books for dawnshard or is he just going to release the prologue? And I haven't been able to find a release date for the people who got it on kikstarter (I did and am curious if we have that info yet or if it will be forth coming in emails).

I can't quite visualize what you mean... I'm probably just having a small-brain moment. Are you saying that you think you could store other metalmind reserves inside a nicrosilmind?

kind of what I'm saying, so what I think might be possible is to tap physical strength for example and at the same time start to fill Nicrosil and it would fill up a lot faster because you  have the investiture form the pewtermind in you body. I also think the opposite is possible so you could tap Nicrosil and start to fill gold at the same time and instead of getting sick the investiture you have stored in Nicrosil would just get moved to the goldmind. sorry you probably were not having a small brain moment I just did a bad job explaining my theory.
