I'm pretty sure Shallan could see them in the corner of her eyes when she was in the hospital.

You mean everybody and their axehound . I did not notice this in my second read through, maybe I'll have to do a third read through after I finish reading all of Brandon's other books...

The wonders of makeup and modern technology are that you can make an actor/actress look much different in a movie than they really are. The actors who played the hobbits in the LotR movies are actually quite tall, for example. And age is a fairly easy one to deal with. I was an actor in my last year of high school and played a character at least seven years younger than me, it just require a shitton of makeup.

Brandon said it was very unlikely that he would do a mistborn vs surgebinder kind of thing, because he didn't want someone to need to read his other books to read The Stormlight Archive. I seriously doubt the element is Lerasium, mainly for that reason. I don't think we have enough evidence to even guess what it is.

You forgot the fact that they can leap over chasms without Shardplate. That's pretty inhuman.

Old Vorinism required them to worship the priests. That ended with the Hierocracy. Page 185, very top. In Elantris, the religion Shu-Dereth states that only Wyrn, who is both the emperor and the most holy man in the world, can serve their god, Jaddeth directly. Everyone else can only serve Wyrn, because they aren't holy enough to serve Jaddeth. Top of page 104. I think though that it's more likely just a case of men with power trying to retain power, not a direct correlation to their deities. In old Vorinism, it was definitely just power hungry priests, because they knowingly lied to their people, saying that they had visions from the Almighty when they didn't.

I learned about him through the Wheel of Time. I got into the series just before Robert Jordan died, and finished right about the time that Brandon started his rereads of the series. Following his blog for WoT stuff, I eventually decided that I should probably read his stuff. I found that he put some preview chapters up for his books, and read the first chapter of Elantris. I was immediately hooked and bought the book. I loved the book, but I didn't pick up anything else of his for months. Then I decided to get the prequel novel for WoT, and when I picked it up, I saw the wonderful cover of Mistborn: The Final Empire. I noticed that it was Brandon's, so I picked it up and read it. Ever since then, I've been hooked. He has written by far my favorite books in the fantasy genre (which for me means the best books EVAR) and has done the Wheel of Time justice. That last bit is probably the main reason I picked up The Way of Kings immediately instead of waiting for reviews. TL;DR: Brandon's awesome.

Anyone else on the PTR? Quite a few of the new mechanics have been put up. Balance druids take note, this includes the new eclipse mechanic. Which is deliciously awesome, I might add.

At the San Diego signing, Brandon said pretty clearly that the Heralds are extremely powerful. He also said that he couldn't discuss much to do with them, so I am assuming that we are going to see a lot more of them.

Hey Deven! If you're the same Deven that was next to me in line, then this is Kevin <- who told you about it.

Different take on the Part 2 Epigraphs - SPOILERS
leinton replied to Juggernaut's topic in Stormlight Archive
Main reason I think it's Hoid who is writing this is because we know that there is a group of people looking for him. It's speculated that these people are the 17th Shard, and are very likely from Sel. That goes along with this: Also, Hoid doesn't seem to be a fan of nonintervention. He specifically gets himself involved in almost all of Brandon's books, and more so in this book than in others. -
OMG someone who actually knows who Blackmore's Night is!

I vaguely remember Brandon saying that each book in the series will concentrate on a different character. If I'm remembering that correctly, it's definitely possible that Shallon will play a bigger role in the next book. Which I find awesome, because that likely means a bigger role for Jasnah, who is my favorite character.

It's hard to admit to myself that I like something better than the Wheel of Time. This book did indeed finally force me to admit that at the very least, this individual book is better than any WoT book.

Doesn't kayama mean crazy or something like that? I figured he was saying something like "This is crazy..." And speaking of your knowledge, isn't there an interview that's supposed to go up sometime soon, Chaos?

It's possible that if they made an illusion around themselves when they were nearer to Elantris that the illusion doesn't diminish with distance. The spell itself is completed, so it may not be effected by the distance. Also, isn't it that the Aons don't work away from Elantris? I'd assume the Dor works fine no matter where you are on Sel, and possibly elsewhere, just not the Aons.

I'm also thinking there will be a fight between Szeth and Kaladin. And it will be AWESOME. I don't think Kaladin would take anyone's Shards, though. Syl doesn't seem to like them, at the very least. I'm personally also hoping to learn a little bit more about Shadesmar.

Continuing with this assumption that they are Elantrians (specifically Galladon and Raoden), I wonder how much power they have. On Sel, their use of the Dor is diminished as they move away from Elantris, right?

One reason I don't think it's a Shardholder is because I have a hard time thinking of a god writing a letter. It just seems kind of silly to me. Shouldn't a god have better ways to communicate than writing? For this reason and many others, I support the Hoid theory.

I really like this Summer Glau as Vin idea. She's already proven in Firefly that she can cower in corners really well, and that she can look awesome in a fight. In other news, when did this thread become "Which Firefly actor would do best in Mistborn?"

Night Elf Druid on Tichondrius, balance spec. I'm looking forward to Cataclysm, but I'm worried I won't play it due to my Star Wars side screaming at me to play The Old Republic. All depends on money, I guess.

I listen to a wide variety of music while reading, depending on my mood and the book. While reading WoK, I listened to a band called Blackmore's Night. Usually when reading, I listen to Pink Floyd. Sometimes Star Wars and LotR music, as well.

I had a lot of reactions to this wonderful book. The only parts I wasn't absolutely thrilled with were the flashbacks, but it wasn't because I thought they were bad. It was more of the rest of the book was just better. I loved how unique his characters are in this book, they seem more of real people than archetypes. Especially Jasnah, I really related to her need for knowledge. The epigraphs in part 2 blew my mind completely away, for obvious reasons. I actually found this site because I was trying to get as much information as I could on the Shards and cosmere in general as possible. I actually spent last night recording all the epigraphs for better reading. I absolutely loved the spren and the way they interacted in the world. It was so wonderful and unique. I had several more reactions, but I think you get the gist of it: I loved the book.

Hey, I'm Kevin. I'm a huge fantasy fan, especially of Brandon (obviously, or else I wouldn't be here). I'm a geography major at Grossmont, hoping one day to transfer as a physical geography major, although my real dream is to be a fantasy author myself. Other than that, I'm a fairly casual guy who loves reading in general, and am just looking for another way to feed my need for more answers in the cosmere.
