  1. Different it's(or its? what is the plural of it?). I gave the example of why Odium might want to limit a specific surge and used some of what is believed about spiritual adhesion to explain why. Things like the Nohadon dreams or Hoid's stories can have a profound effect on another person prompting them to change. Odium does not seem like he would want them to change. The mere ability to understand a another language is not enough nor, I believe, is it all that that surge is capable of. Forms of power are a bad example of this. What surge does stormform use? Adhesion is the surge of pressure but what the singers are doing is not just pressure manipulation. The everstorm is not just a weather event. Also Odium directly controls who gets forms of power. He has a vetting process.
  2. That was just a response to your accusation that I did not even read the prompt. It was a somewhat unfair assumption and I just wanted you to know what sparked my concern.
  3. Yes but that is not what I meant when referring to wired abilities.
  4. I personally have some problems with this series and I realy don't see how it is similar. Sanderson's trademarks are hard magic systems and deep understanding of character motivation but neither is realy apparent in any of Throne of Glass(magic tends to be fairly emotional in nature and individuals who are not the main character kind of move around and do things for less then explicable reasons). I also find that Maas struggles to write convincing male characters something that at first made me laugh but eventually got kind of annoying(same as with female characters). Excellent choice. Role reversal, deep character understanding, an interesting magic system, and a lot of heart. For my own picks The Goblin Emperor(It is a bit like Gawx's situation actually). The Name of the Wind(If you are willing to wait for the 3rd one to come out. Excellent writing). Switch things up and try some sci-fi. David Brin's uplift series is great. Same goes for the three greats Clark, Heinlein, and Asimov. Be prepared for some dated representation of women. That is equally annoying if somewhat more understandable(Some of this stuff is over 50 years old). Alternatively ask the owner of a local bookstore or a librarian for some recommendations. These are surprisingly knowledgeable and too often undervalued mini gods of literature that should realy be considered.
  5. I was referring to Dalinar's stranger esoteric abilities as a bondsmith. Whatever the Nohodon dream vision in Oathbringer was for example.
  6. Not on my thread.
  7. The Rhythms of Sanderson? Invested Metal? The Shattering of Sounds?
  8. It almost certainly does. However it makes no mention of her being able to do anything like the wired stuff Dalinar does with Adhesion or Hoid does with connection and its not like she has any real control over the powers.
  9. The answer is yes. It is still spoiling to say one way or the other.
  10. That is a form of power crafted by Odium. It would not surprise me if he put specific limits on it somehow and we know from Hoid that connection can do more then just translate.
  11. This is still Spoilers. He has not finished the book yet.
  12. Nightblood is not made from whatever metal you thing. He is quite clearly magical and his sheath is aluminum.
  13. I believe they are epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter. They are not signed and don't look at @Aluminum.
  14. Mistborn spoilers!
  15. I want the shard with the intent closest to observation. . Nothing more to say.
  16. Hi.  Are you going to introduce yourself?

  17. I personally view the mind (metaphorically) like a kingdom. Perhaps when searching the frequencies the image of this kingdom is fuzzy but as they approach is starts to smooth out?
  18. Very good question. It could be neither or both.
  19. My point is that giving someone a certain surge might be problematic. IE if they do not have adhesion this could be because Odium worries that the surge could grant them the ability to empathize with humans(bring people together) via connection and cause peace. That sounds bad if you are Odium.
  20. Rock's name means something like "the overlooked stone." Basically his father had a revelation about appreciating that which witch he had overlooked in nature. Tein likes rocks because as a Lightweaver he could see more colors then the people around him. It is also a theme. Tein sees beauty in things Kaladin finds boring.
  21. Only if they are alive. One cut kills and then you can chop the dead thing.
