  1. This is cool!!
  2. It doesn't have to be part of the storyline, but it could be if someone wanted to write it into their own RP character imo. It would fit with my personal perception of what natural magic is, though again, I'm open to being overruled.
  3. Possibly? I am usually not keen on ghosts, they don't interest me very much, but if other people want to toy with this please do! I like @kenod's idea of effectively re-creating a facsimile of a person's spirit through belief. Perhaps that is what can cause a haunting? The collective impression of a person, collective guilt over their death perhaps? A community in a way punishes itself for an unjust killing by conjuring their own demon? Ooooooohhhhh.
  4. Hmm, I would actually think that you couldn't "kill" a person this way. It seems too convenient a way of killing someone. You kidnap them, make everyone believe they are dead, then they actually are dead? I don't think so. Perhaps you might begin to fade out of reality though. The thing is, even if everyone else believes you are dead, you know you aren't. So I don't think killing or bringing back the soul should be possible via Natural magic, but that's just me. I am open to being overruled.
  5. I like that idea, I'll expand my map to get a bit bigger, but it'll have to wait a bit. Maybe sketch it out for me if you can? Actually this goes for anyone. If you can sketch something for me, I can plug it into something clearer.
  6. I agree. Tentpole events, general direction, a few ready-made sideplots to show off the world, then let the rest work itself out. Also, here is a map. The names are there from before, we can change them as we like, I just didn't want to put a bunch of "insert name here" spaces This map is easy enough to re-work so if you hate something feel free to either make your own, or tell me, and I'll re-design it as you like. It looks rather like the San Francisco Bay area because I lived there when I designed it. It was an unconscious choice but makes me laugh.
  7. Agree this makes an excellent side-plot, or corollary to the larger plot. We could weave them together in a meaningful way for sure! Either way I for-sure want to write the anti-superstition league lol. Also I'm currently sketching out a tentative map. Revamping a map I never ended up using which is nice, it always made me sad to see it go to waste. We can change from there, but getting a general layout seems like a good idea.
  8. I don't see why not! I also want to help run the plot, and I think that it would be more functional if we had more than one person doing it anyhow.
  9. This is more organized that I imagined it going, but it does make sense to have it classified. I would say no on the crystals - the magic comes from group-belief after all. Hotspots make more sense. It would figure that gods would more naturally arise around these hotspots anyhow, with how magic flows through the world.
  10. Aww shucks I’d love to lead this portion of the plot, really anything needed with the natural magic end! I could pilot around any number of weird folkloric NPCs too, I love this kind of thing. I think it would be even more fun to have the person becoming a god slowly morph into a potential villain, or grey-area kind of person? I'll workshop this and come up with some ideas. Edit: also, I know we are doing public world-building, but should we publicly plot? Greater plot points should absolutely be made public, but do we want to effectively sketch out the whole greater-plot of the story from end to end? Or have some of it reveal itself as the rp goes on? Just figure we should define this before we get too far into the plotting.
  11. Thanks for writing this, because I was about to type up something similar! I also think both should be possible, depending on the mage involved.
  12. Obviously we will probably end up having a rather large concentration of this population in the RP lol, but yeah speaking just in terms of "the world" at large, 1/100 sounds like enough to make them useful, but not too powerful. I have the image of Innates working with Ritual mages in hired positions. You have a group of rituals and then one Innate who effectively acts as a translator. Or, you could have an Innate who travels with a group of people seeking out manifestations of natural magic (someone looking for a rogue folkloric creature, perhaps, or rumors of an emerging god).
  13. I'm ok with the above. I'd say natural magic is relatively common enough in the lower levels (folkloric creatures, etc.) but uncommon when it comes to true god manifestation (being those that can bestow powers upon others). I think Ritual magic is well-known but in the way that biochemists are "well known" in our world. Sure, I know what a biochemist is and sort of what goes on in the process, but I can't just go put a lab coat on and do biochemistry. It requires serious study. So it's a known entity, but prohibitive due to time constraint and complexity. Unsure about Innates. I'd say 1/100 or more rarity.
  14. Lita eyed the lighter and scissors and swiped her arm away. She tried to smile politely, and almost certainly failed. “You know, I think I’ll just send this out for cleaning later, but thank you.”
  15. Lita felt the chill of the metal inside her arm before she felt the pain. She bit down on her tongue to keep from crying out, but felt a swift new bolstering inside her mind. Suddenly, things weren't quite so overwhelming. The man, Stumped, patted her arm, then mercifully switched to shaking her hand. "Thank you," she said. "I'm Lita, and I am definitely not looking for, um, 'option 3.' I'm joining the Counter Intelligence department so... possibly the first two?" She looked at Laurelai, then back down at her arm, which had started bleeding. With a small squawk of panic, she took off her fur wrap and inspected it closely. It was unharmed, thank goodness, but the right arm of her shirt was quite soaked. "I don't suppose you have anything to get blood out of white linen?" She strongly suspected the answer was 'yes.' @Fatebreaker @Voidus
  16. Lita felt her ears pop! and she staggered a little, feeling a bit woozy. Against her better judgment, she looked at the cookie in the short fellow's hand. Was it shimmering? How long had he been in that box? What was he saying about buzzards? How long have I been down here? She thought, rubbing her hand over her eyes. Lita felt hungry, and her ears were ringing, and there were penguins running around somewhere? She had about a thousand questions running through her mind. How did that man in the lab coat turn himself blue? Who did she report to? Was there any rusting food down here that was just...food? She intended on asking these questions, but when she opened her mouth to introduce herself to the short man, what came out was, "I hate buzzards." @Fatebreaker
  17. As a wearer of glasses, it's kind of like this, but my eyes are literally deformed so perhaps I'm the wrong person to discuss eye troubles with.
  18. Lita followed Laurelai as they wound through the Alleys, and though she tried to map out their route in her mind, she was still wholly turned around. This place, Lita thought, is not normal at all. The room they entered was white and clean - uncomfortably clean. Lita had been living in Alleycity long enough to know what a laboratory was, but the level of complete sterility still made her shiver a bit. The man standing in the center of the room was even odder still. He was blue, and... were those horns growing out of his head? Stop staring you nitwit, Lita scolded herself, putting on her best polite half-smile. Laurelai chatted with the man, asking if they had anything new and exciting. He ducked into a back room, the pocket of his white coat smoking like a burning tea kettle. Lita glanced at Laurelai, who seemed utterly unconcerned at the idea of talking with a blue-skinned horned man. "So!" The man barked out from inside as he steadied a column of boxes with one hand, and with the other quickly yanked one of the crates out from the middle of it, barely managing to avoid the entire pile from collapsing on top of him. "What kinds of new things?" Lita jumped a bit, blushing as she realized she'd been staring at the man again - well, at his pocket, which was still smoking. "I -- ah," she cleared her throat, suddenly lost for words. What did she want? It was clear from the looks of the fellow in the lab coat that almost anything was possible down here. Definitely not horns, she thought, twirling a finger around the ends of her plaited hair. She looked over at Laurelai. It seemed like a great deal of choice to offer someone brand new to an organization. Admittedly, she was still trapped in some kind of strange underground maze. Perhaps this was normal. "I'm a spy by trade," she said, trying to keep her voice from quavering. She wasn't even sure what she was allowed to ask for. "Something to help with covert intelligence, maybe? Or one of those clever pens?" @Voidus
  19. Snacktime!
  20. Yep summary looks good to me!
  21. This is an excellent idea. Would each Innate only be able to see/sense a specific element of something? Temperature, state of matter, things like that?
  22. Sorry, what does prison have to do with this...? Have I missed something? You make a good point though, not everything evolves at the same speed. If everyone is focused on studying the spirit web, that doesn't mean that everyone has suddenly developed a keen interest in electricity or whatever.
  23. Ha! I think I am actually starting to understand this. I'm not actually sure if this should be a giant portion of the magic but I'm pretty neutral on that aspect. If enough people want it...? The thing is, if people are studying something for millennia, then I'd guess the society would probably have progressed beyond "classical fantasy" era feel (pseudo-medieval).
  24. Interesting. So if, theoretically, you stole the spiritual gene from "ice" would it morph into "water" if above freezing, or would it be like the "ice" was continually frozen somewhere else...? Gah I am not articulating this well. Edit: Or would it be more like the object now has the capability of freezing at the freezing point of water?
  25. I am assuming you would need to "charge" this thing for it to work repeatedly? Also, putting the spell on the person - via a tattoo I assume? A brand? Carving it into their skin? (Not opposed to any of these things just curious)
