Jenny had forgotten about Edgar’s injuries. She hoped that walking wouldn’t aggravate them too much. ”I brought some ambrosia if you’d like to have a bit. It could potentially help to accelerate your healing some more.” She started tossing Sword, making it do flips before she caught it. That was a bit of a challenge to do while moving, but it was fun. The familiar motions were steadying to her.
-
“I’ll keep an eye on them. I brought the paralysis poison just in case. I was intending to use it on Roy if he got violent or on whoever ends up betraying us, but it could work for our current situation too.” Jenny took out Sword and started fiddling with it. She could see her reflection in the polished metal.
-
“I think Aaron means well, he just doesn’t know how to help properly. To very, very annoying ends, unfortunately.” She spoke quietly enough that the others wouldn’t be able to hear. “I’m not sure if a fight can be avoided. At this point, it seems like it’s only a matter of time. Hopefully it could humble them both, or at least let them blow off some steam.” She frowned. ”I was really hoping that Aaron could help keep everything calm. He had made such a great first impression.”
-
Edgar’s voice was oddly clear among the other muffled sounds. That was unexpected, but rather nice. Perhaps they were magic earplugs. He was laughing, so maybe the bump thing was the correct response. She’d have to remember that. Jenny laughed a little too. She noticed Aaron trying to speak with Roy and took one earplug out. Hopefully she could break up any arguments they had. Two overly confident personalities like that could clash very easily and spectacularly. @Scars of Hathsin @RoyalBeeMage

Jenny took the ear plugs, marveling at how Edgar had managed to create them while walking. She carefully stuck them in her ears, and the sound of Roy sharpening his spear immediately disappeared. She sighed with relief. Jenny could hear herself think again. “Thank you so much!” Not knowing what else to do, she gently bumped Edgar with her shoulder, imitating what he had done before.
-
Jenny jumped slightly when Edgar bumped her. She was immediately a bit embarrassed, her cheeks reddening a bit. Normally, she never was startled. But being in an empty stretch of land and walking away from safety just felt so wrong. “I would appreciate that. Thank you.” She smiled despite her nervousness. That was really thoughtful of him. @RoyalBeeMage @Scars of Hathsin @The Clarinetist

Jenny started wondering how easy it would be to snap the haft of his spear. She could probably do it rather easily. That could wait, though. Sharp weapons were important still, even if the process required to maintain them was incredibly annoying. With each step she took away from camp, she became a little more uneasy. Jenny hadn’t left for years, and the years before that had been spent running. She wasn’t alone this time, though. That didn’t banish her anxiety, however. @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist @Scars of Hathsin

“I apologize for the misinterpretation.” Hopefully Aaron wouldn’t be too annoyed by the future misinterpretations she would inevitably make on their journey together. Jenny adjusted her bag, making sure none of her daggers poked into her back. Although they were sheathed, the weapons were still pretty pointy. Jenny started walking in the direction of New York, patting the Thalia-tree as she passed her. Ending up as a tree seemed like it was a worse fate than ending up in the underworld. Zeus didn’t particularly appreciate her father’s domain sometimes. @Weaver of Lights @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist

“After that, we need to go to Los Angeles. There’s an entrance to the underworld there. Unfortunately, it’s about as far as you can get from here while still staying in the country.” Although it was rather frustrating that they couldn’t use a plane to shorten their trip to six hours, she was secretly glad they wouldn’t need to go into the sky. Jenny was not a fan of heights. @Weaver of Lights @Scars of Hathsin @The Clarinetist

Oof, this one hurts. Whenever I take my dog to the park, the ducks try to bite him.

Chuck Norris once won an arm wrestling tournament with both arms tied behind his back.

Jenny sighed a long sigh. She had hoped Aaron would get along with everyone well, but he was making a very poor impression. His claims of power were likely exaggerated. He was a twelve year old who had been at camp for half a year. The chances that he could ‘drag her along on a stretcher’ were vanishingly small. That sort of misplaced confidence would be dangerous. Fancy vines that could hold down some demigods wouldn’t fare quite so well against monsters sent by the gods. “Aaron, I’m fine. Just sore. Most of my burns are on my arms, anyways, so crutches would probably make things more painful. And we are not leaving anyone behind. Anyone by themselves would be picked off by monsters pretty quickly.” @Weaver of Lights @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist

Eza turned back to Chloris distractedly. Her attention was still largely focused on Lum’s stunt. “I work with Lum, but not for their boss directly. I’ve only met their boss once, in passing. I know who he is, but am not familiar with him.” A hint of disgust showed on Eza’s face as she talked about Perses. She hated that she was associated with him at all. To be perfectly honest, she was scared of him too. He killed people like her to steal what became his powers, and she had no doubt that he would be willing to do it again. In an attempt to stop their uncomfortable line of questioning, Eza changed the subject. “So, Chloris, what do you do for work?” @Ravenclawjedi42 @Stormlightsong @Scars of Hathsin

Jenny wondered why Edgar was looking at her like that. Maybe he found her statement to be painfully relatable. Roy was probably right that Harold would be their best bet. She didn’t trust Roy to not fly off the handle whenever he got mad at someone. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist

When Chuck Norris stared into the abyss, it looked away.

Eza heard Lum make a toast behind her and turned around. They were talking to the previously glowing guy and appeared to have just mocked him. She resisted the urge to let out a very foul curse. She repeated it internally instead. What was Lum rusting doing? First talking to someone they knew was involved with the policeman hunting them down, and now antagonizing a man who clearly possessed some sort of magic powers? Were they drunk or something? Maybe they’d ordered something a little too strong at the bar. She quit making an effort to keep her focus on Itsuki and Chloris, staring at Lum and the stranger instead. She figured that was an understandable reaction. Looking around, other folks had briefly stared at the duo as well when Lum had made that toast. The guy started glowing again. Eza was relatively certain that was bad. She prepared to either bolt or fight, depending on how the conversation went between them. She had no idea what the glowing guy could do. She hoped that today was not the day she would find that out. She deliberated on what she would say to Lum after this debacle was over. Eza had to pick words harsh enough to get her frustration across, but not so harsh that Lum would quit associating with her. It would be quite the exercise in self restraint. @Koloss17 @Ravenclawjedi42

This is a classic. I was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger and bigger.

“We’re going to travel by train too, right? I don’t know how trains work. It’s probably best if you guys do all the talking for those. I might accidentally offend someone and get us kicked off. Same with buses. And taxis.” Jenny laughed, although she wasn’t kidding. She was likely the worst possible person for interacting with strangers. ”I don’t need much sleep, so I can take more watches to make up for it.” @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist

I like this one. If you see a crime at an Apple store,

“Good for you.” Jenny rifled through her bag and pulled out a lighter. She addressed the group. ”I brought some camping supplies in case we needed to sleep outdoors.” She looked towards the sky. Zeus’s domain. ”We should probably avoid being noticed as much as we can. I’m good with outdoorsy stuff, so I think that sleeping outside could be a good option.” @The Clarinetist @Weaver of Lights

Here’s another joke. Why was the sand at the beach wet?

Jenny arrived at her cabin and grabbed a bag, stuffing some changes of clothes in it. After managing to shove a sleeping bag, various outdoor survival tools, and her toiletries in there as well, she realized that she was missing something. After a few more daggers had been added to the pack, she still wasn’t sure what more she needed to add. After two bottles of poison were added, including her paralysis one, she still couldn’t figure out what was missing. After a while spent pondering, she figured out what it was. A short trip into the forest later, she added a pouch of death flowers to her bag. And another dagger, just in case. Grabbing a square of ambrosia from the medical staff on her way over, Jenny skipped to the pavilion. She smiled when she saw Edgar and sat next to him, setting her deceptively heavy bag on the table. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist
-
Edgar thanked her. She had told him a horrible thing, and he thanked her. He really did care. Jenny took one last shuddering breath, managing to compose herself somewhat. “I’m going to go finish packing my things. I’ll meet you at the pavilion.” She then skipped off towards the Hades cabin. She smiled despite the painful memories and the voice in her head insisting that Edgar wasn’t trustworthy.
-
Edgar trusted her. He didn’t care that she was a murderer who had lied to him about her past. After all she’d done, he still trusted her. Jenny would do all she could not to break that trust. It was the most valuable thing in the world to her. ”Thank you. I trust you too.” She smiled and tears welled up in her eyes. They were happy tears this time. ”Thank you.”
