He shouldn’t trust you, Jenny. You remember what you did to the last person who trusted you, don’t you? ”That’s a good point.” She whispered, smiling back at him. Liar, liar, liar. With some difficulty, Jenny ignored the voice.
-
Those last two lines were less than great. Jenny immediately looked at Roy as the third one was recited. If anyone was going to betray them, it would be him. “I guess we’re all supposed to go, then?” She wasn’t looking forwards to spending more time with Roy, but keep your enemies closer was a particularly relevant saying based on what the prophecy said. @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist

I’ll give another hint (this is the title in literal terms).

“Harold, the vast majority of people hate me. If I disappeared, I’m pretty sure everyone at camp apart from Edgar would celebrate. Besides, something like that doesn’t determine what your life is worth.” She sighed, standing. ”I’ve been here for five years and have done nothing. I can finally help everyone this way.” She looked around at the others. ”I don’t think we have to do this alone, anyways. I’d rather not, at least.” @Weaver of Lights @RoyalBeeMage
-
Jenny looked to Roy. ”If you don’t want to take the prophecy, I will.” Her expression hardened as she steeled her resolve. She had to do this. It didn’t matter that this wasn’t her fault. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist @Weaver of Lights

“But I like my dad. I don’t want to abandon him. I… want him to like me too. He doesn’t talk to me anymore.” “I- yeah, maybe he’ll listen to me.” Jenny latched on to that idea. She hoped it was the case. It was the only way this could work out ok. She looked back up and took a deep breath, trying to stop panicking. @RoyalBeeMage
-
At least one person didn’t think it was Jenny’s fault. ”I have to fix this. I don’t think I have a choice. Oh gosh. If my dad really did steal it, though, he’d be so mad at me.” Jenny was shaking. No matter what, everything was awful. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist
-
Jenny paled. Oh no. This was very bad. They’d probably think this was all her fault. She was a child of Hades. Who else would do his bidding? But it didn’t make sense. Why would Hades want the bolt? He didn’t want war, did he? ”My dad wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t take the bolt, I swear! He… he… oh gosh…” She sat down and put her head in her hands. Everyone probably thought that she was the thief. The other campers would hate her even more. It was a wonder Chiron didn’t seem to be angry at her. @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist

“I really appreciate that.” Jenny smiled at Edgar. Fortunately he didn’t try to argue with her about this. He kept trying to help her, even though that would only hurt him. She hadn’t met someone so kind to her for years. She watched Roy, not moving until he did. There was no way she was going to turn her back to him. He’d probably try to stab her from behind. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist

Jenny almost said ‘no problem’, but realized that was a blatant lie. ”You’re welcome.” ”Thank you, but I’m alright.” She whispered back. Jenny was relatively certain that Edgar would just collapse if she tried to lean on him. She appreciated the gesture, though. @RoyalBeeMage
-
Jenny, while not entirely sure that she believed Roy, nodded. The sooner they got away from Roy the better, and that apparently necessitated talking to Chiron. She waited for Edgar to move, not wanting to leave his side while he was doing so poorly. @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist

Jenny let her daggers drop, but she didn’t put them away. She got up from the bed, grimacing at the pain shooting up through her leg. It was sweet that Edgar stood between her and Roy, but in his state she didn’t think there was much he could do. ”I’ll handle him.” She whispered to Edgar as she passed him. @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist
-
Jenny tensed, preparing to spring up from the bed as soon as Roy took a step closer. She held her twin daggers at a ready position. “Don’t be stupid, Roy.” @Weaver of Lights @The Clarinetist
-
Jenny didn’t think Roy was that stupid, but she subtly pulled out her daggers anyways. Roy didn’t seem to be the most stable person. @RoyalBeeMage @The Clarinetist

“I doubt there was any foul play involved. There was a myrmyke chasing Harold,” She gestured to him. ”So Edgar and I killed it. We got burned by its acid a fair bit. Harold’s new, he was chased into camp about 30ish minutes ago. He’s a son of Apollo.” She looked to Harold and gestured to Roy. ”This is Roy.” @The Clarinetist @Weaver of Lights
-
Jenny felt awful that Edgar was crying. Why couldn’t he understand that he hadn’t done anything wrong? She was about to attempt to console him somehow, try and convince him it wasn’t his fault, but then Roy walked in. She glared at him and crossed her arms. ”How’d the game go?” Her voice was cold.
-
She raised an eyebrow. ”Edgar, you’re the only reason I’m not a pile of bones right now. Had you not taken those attacks, I would’ve been burnt to a crisp. Or eaten, whichever came first. If anything, it’s my fault I didn’t go for the ant’s eye sooner.” “Looks like your dad is Apollo!” Jenny was relieved Harold was already claimed. She always felt bad for the unclaimed kids stuck in the Hermes cabin.
-
“Me too.” Jenny poked at her arm again, testing to see if it felt better. Nope, still stung. She then turned to look Edgar in the eyes. ”And please stop apologizing. You don’t need to. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
-
“It… hurts.” She admitted reluctantly. She didn’t want Edgar to feel bad, but she also didn’t want to lie. “But the injuries shouldn’t result in any lasting damage. Maybe a few scars.” She hoped that the burned cheek would heal well. Jenny didn’t want to give people more excuses to insult her appearance.
-
Jenny nodded and relaxed again, and she finally set down the mandible next to her bed. She wasn’t sure that Edgar was correct, but she forced herself to quit dwelling on her worries. There wasn’t anything she could do to change things. Wishing she had brought a spare rubber band, she tied her hair up in a knot. It tended to get in her face. Thankfully the bun had kept it from being burned away. ”Harold really does like to run.” She mused out loud.
-
Jenny winced. Edgar seemed to be doing worse than she had thought. Maybe he wasn’t getting better. She had no idea what to do besides provide moral support. ”Do you want me to get some more help?” She tried her best to avoid letting any of her fear show in her voice. Jenny was tired, however, so she didn’t do a very good job of it.
