From the album: My Mistborn Stuff
Found this old doodle of Marsh that I drew a while back and it was so adorable I just had to share. -

Ember stood deathly still as she listened, her giant eyes shut so she count focus better. She didn't smile, as such an expression wasn't natural to her, but she enjoyed the music. When Heather had finished, Ember opened her eyes and regarded her, blinking a few times. "I wish I could do that," she said. "It's not useful, but it's pretty, so pretty." Ember sighed. "I wonder if Master Star sings like you, Heather." -

Ember got to her feet, following her. “Oh. Heather?” she asked, slightly timid. “Would you sing for me? I think you have a very pretty singing voice. I would like to hear it again.” She rocked back and forth on her feet, hands behind her back. -

Star felt herself smile. She hadn't been certain how she'd respond to either a "yes" or a "no" but this was probably the best answer she could have hoped for. "I hope so, too," she said. "Do... do you mind if I could perhaps touch your mind? I can feel emotions offhand, but..." -

“Pheo, there’s something else you need to know,” Star said, meeting his eyes with seriousness. “My Author, she... she named you my True Love. That's why your kiss saved me from my burns. But... I…” She trailed off and sighed tiredly. “I want to believe that she’s right, but I’m just not sure. True Love... Contrary to what my Author must think, it doesn't just happen over night. Not between complex beings like us, anyway. For some reason, I had convinced myself that it might happen that way between us, just click together magically. But… things just haven’t played out the way I had thought they would and I don’t feel....” Star grimaced. “I was a desperate fool. I… still am. But Pheo, I have to know. Do you believe her? Are you my True Love?” She stared at him intently. His answer was important to her. -

“Listen, Pheo…” Star looked away, blushing. “Today, while we were on our way to rescue Jay, I came to realize that I… really don’t know you very well… At all.” She met his gaze for a moment, then quickly looked away. “It frightened me. You’re nothing like I expected you to be. Which isn’t a bad thing, not at all! It’s no fault of yours; it’s mine for turning you into more an idea than a person. That’s terribly unfair of me and I hope you’ll forgive me. And... well, with Marsh, he was a character and he…” She sighed. “Things are different now, that’s all. And… I don’t know quite how to feel. About you…” She trailed off, cringing as she said the words. Quickly, say something else, don’t break his heart. “Pheonix… you’re a very sweet fellow. I know you have a heart of gold. And I do think that maybe we could… ” She rubbed her face with her hand; this was coming out far more awkwardly than she’d hoped and she was beginning to feel sick to her stomach. “I guess what I’m saying is, I’m more than willing to spend time with you. A-and I know that it might be hard considering… everything that’s… going on.” Star’s face fell. “Oh, Author, I’m sorry, Pheo. It’s downright selfish of me to…” She trailed off again, staring at him. He was an awfully delicate thing, even in his appearance. He was like a candle. Thin and pale as wax with a small shuddering flame on top that might easily be blown out by a single breath. His eyes though. They spoke to his depth. So wide and eager, full of child-like innocence. But to be with him like she had been with Marsh… It just didn’t seem right. Nothing seemed right. Things in her life had been changing recently. She’d taken on the role of Heather’s mother and that made everything seem much more real. Things were settling down again, weren’t they? And… that was what she wanted. But more than that… the idea of having someone to hold her was frighteningly tempting. Of course that was what she wanted. That was all she’d ever wanted. Unbidden memories swarmed her mind, threatening to drown her. Warm, peaceful nights. True rest. She didn’t deserve to have that again. What would happen if she let Pheonix steal her heart? She was terrified that she might just melt away there in his arms, leaving her unable to help anyone ever again. Did she want it? No. Yes? Maybe??? She felt her breath shorten. Yes, she wanted it! And she loathed herself for feeling that way. No one deserved the burden of being the main character except for her. The responsibility weighed her down like a rock in her stomach. But then she looked up and met Pheo’s eyes again. Things seemed to slow. The memories dispersed, the room felt quieter, less crowded. There was only her and honey-sweet Pheonix. His candle flame waved back and forth slowly, giving her a pace for her breathing. She closed her eyes. Just… don’t go too fast, she thought. She bowed her head. “Forgive me, Pheonix.” -

Star sighed. "I just..." She ran a hand through her hair, then looked at Xino and Jay. "We should probably... Oh, for crying out loud." She snapped, transporting herself and Pheonix to a room somewhere on the ship. Her hands trembled faster now and she felt herself beginning to sweat. "Okay, then..." It’s going to be fine, she reassured herself. Just… be ever so gentle with his little heart and if he breaks down… She rubbed her face with her hand. Oh, why did I think it was a good idea to try to force myself to fall in love again? The matronly Narrator snapped again, two chairs appearing in the room. She sat down and gestured for Pheo to do the same. -

Star nodded. "That will certainly be interesting to see. You're the only one who'll have a duplicate, since Pheo and I didn't have duplicates and Heather's duplicate... died." She paled. "But right now..." Star glanced at Pheonix and froze for a moment, her hands trembling slightly. "I need to talk to Pheo," she said. -

Star offered her hand to help him up. "A mime was walking around those corridors. I ran into him and he didn't seem very happy to see me. We just narrowly avoided being fried. I don't think it's advisable to go in there again." She sighed. "But it's over now. And, as I was saying earlier, I do believe the Universes have come back together. That might explain why that mime was there." -

Star huffed. "By the Author..." She knelt, shaking Xino gently to wake him. Ember's ears perked up slightly, picking up Heather's singing over the soft roar of running water in the room behind her. The Destroyer's face brightened (literally) and tipped her head back, closing her eyes pleasantly. She hummed a sustained note to go along with that beautiful, but muted sound. It reverberated melodically in her chest, ringing metallicly. When the chord in Heather's song changed, Ember lost her pitch and raised her eyebrows a bit frustrated. She crossed her arms, annoyed. But what did it matter, Heather was the better singer anyway. A pretty voice indeed. Ember resolved to ask for more music once Heather emerged. That would be nice. -
