  2. "Alright." Star smiled and pulled Heather close to her, kissing her forehead. "I love you, dearest, don't you ever forget that."
  3. Star looked down, withdrawing slightly. "I... I would be willing to marry him if... if you needed a father. I can tell he already loves you and I..." She trailed off.
  4. Star smiled faintly. She knew there was more to be said, but if Heather didn't want to talk about it, then that was perfectly fine. The person to be loved was so much more important than the problem to be solved. "Well, Pheonix..." She bit her lip, not quite sure of how to continue. "TVG says that Pheonix is my True Love. And I thought that was true at first, but now... I'm not so sure. It's not that I don't care for him - he's a wonderful boy, the sweetest I've ever met - but... I just can't ever envision myself..." She shook her head. "I suppose I'll just have to wait and see how things turn out."
  5. Star furrowed her brow. "Hmm? Why's that?"
  6. Star paled. Of course she noticed. "Well... It's rather complicated." She wasn't quite sure how to continue; what if something she said worried the girl? "Heather? How would you feel if I got remarried?" She cringed. Author's Pen, that's far away. Marrying Pheo seemed so... impossible.
  7. "Right, then." Star gulped down the rest of her tea before realizing she probably could have just taken the cup with her. Oh, well. "Ember, you can lead the way if you want." Ember brightened. "Yes, Master." She opened the door and marched out, Star following behind, nervously playing with her wedding ring.
  8. Star sighed. "I suppose you girls should probably meet Pheonix officially. He's... He's very sweet and loving, if a little shy." Author, I'm going to have to go with them, aren't I? "We can do that now."

  10. Star raised her eyebrows. "I had no idea. You... You can't generate your own Narrative Energy?" "Yes and no. My Narrative Core functions as a sort of amplifier. I receive a constant stream of energy from you, then it is multiplied and used to fuel me. If you were to die, I would be unable to heat myself and slowly cool down until I was a lifeless metal statue. So, until my Narrative Core were to somehow break, or you were to die, I will remain endless. But I can think of no way my Core could crack and if you die, I likely won't be needed anymore." "That's incredible, Ember." Ember blushed, turning her gaze away. "Is there anything you would like me to do, Master?" Star shook her head. "You can do whatever you want, sweetie." The Destroyer narrowed her eyebrows, unhappy with that response. But... there was something she wanted to do. "I would like to meet your True Love." Narrator Star choked on her tea. "Pheo?" "Yes. He is my master almost as much as you are." Maybe he'll have something for me to do.
  11. "I don't have a stomach either," Ember said, "Or a digestive system at all. I just don't get nutrients that way." Star thought for a moment. "How are you powered anyway? There's got to me something keeping you heated constantly." "It's you," Ember said. Star paused. "Come again." "You. You power me. Your Narrative energy."
  12. "Wonderful." Star snapped, a steaming mug appearing in her hand. "Here. Ember?" Ember bit her lip. "I don't have tastebuds," she said awkwardly. "Oh. I'm sorry, Ember." Ember said nothing, looking down at her feet.
  13. "Oh good," Star sighed. "It helped me too, honestly. I..." She paused, unsure if it was wise to talk about her difficulty with Pheonix with her newly adopted daughter. Deciding it probably wasn't, she said, "Would you girls like some tea?"
  14. Ah. I've heard people say soda and pop interchangeably; that's what I do.
  15. Why was I tagged?
  16. "Alright, if you say so. I'll sing for you." Star cleared her voice and started to sing in the warm, alto voice of an older woman who'd seen more than her share. The other night, dear As I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you, in my arms When I awoke, dear I was mistaken So I hung my head and I cried You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are gray You'll never know, dear How much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away I'll always love you And make you happy And nothing else could come between But if you leave me to allow another You'll have shattered all of my dreams You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are gray You'll never know, dear How much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away As she sang she felt herself calm down a bit.
  17. "Are you alright, sweetie?" Star said in concern. "You seem on edge."
  18. Ember raised an eyebrow. "Heather would like you to sing," she said. Star froze. "Sing? I... Oh. Um... alright, I guess. I... Author, I haven't sang in years."
  19. Star bit her lip, feeling her heart rate rise again. Oh, Author, maybe it would be better if Pheo wasn't here after all. "Do you need anything, dearest?"
  20. Star flinched, nearly dropping her tea in surprise. Some of the hot drink spilled out onto her hand, burning her momentarily. When she looked over her shoulder to see Heather, she breathed out in relief. "Oh," she said, smiling warmly. "Heather." She was wearing a tiara that hadn't been there before - a delicate beauty made with silver, diamonds and pearls, the silver shaped into vines and flowers. "It's good to see you dear. Oh, and Ember." Ember walked into the room reverently, nodding. "Highness."
  21. Ember climbed up the stairs carefully, making sure she wasn't going too fast for Heather. Upon coming to Star's door, she let go of Heather's hand and bowed her head, clasping her hands in front of her and waiting.
  22. Lovely question. Ralvon has been on the street for one year. His "experience" comes from another place. The reason he's willing to help Tamika is because she is innocent and that's something he's lost for himself. He's seen a lot of people get hurt, a lot of good people, but none of them had innocence either. Tami does have it. And that pierces him. When he first meets her he notices she's brand new and could use some help, 'cause he's just nice like that. Notice he mentions that Ray often steals food from littler kids and he doesn't like that. Ralv doesn't like people preying upon the helpless. She doesn't really want to trust him, she knows she shouldn't (I could definitely do a better job of showing that in the chapter). In the beginning of the chapter she talks about being kinda thrown off by his cheerful demeanor. He's not what she expects. But he's nice and she likes that; she gravitates toward it because it's a commodity it feels good. I would definitely say that she's too trusting; Ralvon is - to pretty much anyone but her - quite terrifying. He's killed before and he's good at getting what he wants. I hope that helps ya!
