  1. Would be hilarious, but don't put adolin in the same sentence as odium, or you get like 300 hate posts That guy is off limits and has way too many fans who will protect the one who can't protect himself (see what I did there?) The theory with 9 heartbeats is definitely something that sounds interesting though and shouldn't be dismissed lightly - not that he gets to become a necromancer now but small subtle things like that are usually more important than we think!
  2. That's a little bit like talking rust about a fictional character for being gay or black or whatever is a topic that polarises and then going for the easy way out "hey hey they dont exist, chill" ... you are free to say you don't like him but 'buhuu he is sad all the time without reason' is a flaw of character as far as I'm concerned
  3. 29 almost 30 lol, well I guess by the time this series ends we'll all be grandparents or close to it
  4. Out with Janala: "I had imagined," she said, "that a walk would involve more walking". "Hm," he said. "Yes. We'll be getting right to that soon. It'll be grand. Lots of prancing, sauntering, and, er..." "Promenading?" Yis the leatherworker offered. "Isn't that a type of drink?" Adolin asked. "Er, no, Brightlord. I'm fairly certain it's another word for walking." "Well then," Adolin said. "We'll do plenty of it too. promenading. I always love a good promenading." Being articulate is far more than just not breaking into ignorant accents as we both should know. With Shallan in the winehouse: "I know you're supposed to swish the wine about and taste it and things," he whispered, "but nobody has ever explained to me what I was looking for" Learning half the stuff that is expected of a prince doesn't give you a refined character or something of the sorts it's expected. He's good at dueling I'll give you that, but if that's all it takes for being "graceful" I'd be really bothered tbh PS: not picked the one crude thing he said to use it as a counterpoint, Adolin, if you let him talk, will give you plenty of those by his own (not crude stuff but counterpoints) - it just was a lovely finisher imo ^^
  5. Never said he is the "antianything" and I already pointed out that the greatest issue I have with him being a Radiant is that it's predictable and not the least bit interesting. He is a prince, good looking, damnation good duelist (not fighter), has a ton of money, not really struggeling with anything (even the killing of sadeas didn't really bother him, sure he was a bit worried but not more than that), apparently happily married and now he should become radiant as well? It's just boring and expected, make any character this successfull in every aspect of his life and he loses credibility. And as I pointed out (through a lot of sarcasm) I really don't know how anybody seriously can believe that he is "graceful, refined, and (most of all) articulate". Even Shallan is worried that if she teases him in her usual way he might break. Somebody who is articulate should be able to deal with that and not look for other words for "walking" and be surprised if the most he can think of is 2 or 3... I mean point me into the right direction, maybe I'm really not seeing it - I'd be happy to be disproven (if it's something from the books, not ripped out of context and not just a feeling)
  6. So excuse me if I'm coming off here to strong or I used way too much sarcasm (which I mostly do), with topics I'm passionate about there is always that threat. This is merely my opinion and how I see things so we might (probably) not agree but still I felt I had to say it, please don't feel attacked or something, but rather read it with a little sense of humor Adolin is the most graceful person we know, cutting through Parshendi with a shardblade like butter, fighting 4 people in the arena hammering into them again and again so their plate explodes, and jumping an oponent from behind clinging on to him - never seen anything more graceful... Yeah Kaladin hated Lighteyes because iirc they all betrayed him before, so if being a decent human being counts for "healing" the belief that every lighteyes is corrupt and cruel we should expect at least a few dozen new edgedancers in the next book. Also the remembering part is a bit off, sorry but if my mother died 20 years ago I would remember her too, thats only natural and it's your closest relative you ever get, you literally came out of her body so forgetting that might be a valid reason to be considered a selfish bastard (which he isn't) And the part where Dalinar forgets... not entirely his fault, there was a little something very powerful who helped a bit there with supernatural powers no less.... so him forgetting and Adolin remembering, yeah there were reasons for that. Considering those validations, Kaladin should emerge as Honor himself at some point because: he remembers Tien, his parents, Moash, Moash's parents, Laral, Tarah etc... also he is graceful as hell (so perfect edgedancer material) He speaks no lies anymore (because Syl doesn't like it very much but still - so Lightweaver potential there) He want's people to accept that Parshendi aren't the bad ones everybody thinks and bring them together (totally an apprentice Bondsmith there) And I guess you could find a bunch of other orders who would fit him just as well. The thing is if you only look hard enough you can find an excuse for every character to get accepted that doesn't make Adolin "right for the job". Granted, only having shardplate that makes you able to jump several times higher than you are tall, faster, and stronger combined with a blade that cuts through everything like it's butter and being trained his whole life to be good... I see how he absolutely needs magic, he will mostly fight alone if it comes to it because he is just a prince and doesn't have any friends who are radiant or squires he could borrow or anything... sooo there is no way he could survive with only that... Sorry wait, what? Most refined? Most articulate...? Did we read the same book? "I Adolin Kholin shat myself"
  7. Forget about magic then and insert 'super good fighter' - doesn't matter which ability/term you use - making to many main protagonists 'awesome' is always dangerous. And even Sanderson usually doesn't make everybody supernatural (Sarene, Siri for example). But I get it I guess 'let's make the beautiful prince get everything now - predictable, yeah but who cares'
  8. That's like making everybody in LOTR like Gandalf and Galadriel and saying "yeah well it's about magic" - sorry not seeing it
  9. So we have Dalinar the overlord who has almost godlike powers now. Shallan who slowly learns how to make an army of illusions that could be used for actual fighting instead of being distractions only at some point. Kaladin who is basically the perfect soldier and can fly as well Jasnah who is pure destruction in OB Sure, let's make all POV characters radiant. While we are at that though why not make every human on roshar radiant, let them all train with their powers in book 4 and end everything in book 5. Odium get's a kick in the butt and everybody lives happily ever after. If every character who has a POV is radiant that would be far less interesting. Both storywise and for character interactions. Also Syl would probably be like: "well that does only barely make up fo all the time you used her while dead - don't be so smug now"
  10. Before OB I might have been inclined to believe that and take it for a sure thing, but now just everything seems possible xP (Also I don't think female Sprens are Adolin's type)
  11. IF Maya chooses Adolin, if it goes anyway like the relationship resolve in Oathbringer Maya will pop into existence, wink to Adolin, tell him "thanks" and then to storm off and bond with Navani
  12. Well that would depend on the "being alive state" of Maya - if for any reason she gets to be whole again and choses to bond with Adolin I don't see why he couldn't become a Radiant. As for the "how" this might come to be - we will see I guess. Will she be the same? Hard to say "Spren don't change much" - But either way I guess we'll never see the "old Maya" so all the same for me
  13. Soooo, let me put this straight… Only if you do the "wooohoooo" (as I think it's called in the sims for PG reasons and stuff), with a couple of Girls and then running away…. only then you have commitment issues? Otherwise it just seems like it...? Thanks for making that clear, I think I was mistaken on that part all my life then
  14. Adolin 'glorification' - the way I see it people who are angry with the resolve (this is absolutely and entirely not about who got whom but how it was done - how fast, how relatable, how realistic, etc) bring far better 'proof' of why it was bad than the other side with why it was not. Let's face it, all shadolin people really care about is that they got their happy ending - it doesn't matter how - just that they got it. The most people who are rooting for adolin come up with is the 'he sees her' passage, but does he really? People come up with in book quotes on mass why it isn't so - and then it's his crumbling world and how he deals with it - people mention the killing of sadeas - then how he drove shallan into her 3rd splinter - 'well, shallan did that to herself, he's just a boy' - then it's him bringing her food (kal brought her shoes at her wedding much better than food anyway) - people say ok you're right he cares - and suddenly they are perfect for each other and in love... wait what? When did that happen? - Just for once I want to read a quote that's from the books, not broken off at some convenient point that actually proofs the fact that adolin and shallans feelings are genuine - that he is the right choice and the whole resolve wasn't a complete mess... But it never comes, wanna know why? Because Shadolin people romanticise the whole thing, not caring how it was done just that it was done. Of course you run low then on actual facts why it's 'right' other than - 'because it is' People who argue here mostly don't hate adolin I guess but how people react to the whole affair, making tons of excuses so the whole stuff makes at least a little sense. Otherwise there is only agreeing with the fact that either it's not completely over or Sanderson had a stroke while writing the last chapters and never bothered to fix it... (and that's not at all likely)
  15. Wow guys I didn't even had to respond - awesome job, everything I would have said and maybe more and a hellishly lot more detailed than I would have done it
  16. That's the glorification I'm talking about - when you put Kaladins Palace scene besides that he was way more empathetic "reading her mind or rather her emotions" And still all Adolin worshippers will point out the scene on the boat where he was envious of her being able to be "crazy" or normal. Adolin is being glorified which means he'll never do something wrong and is just the golden boy, everything he does has a reason is somewhat justified, he's just a boy blabla... All the excuses in the world are being made for him to just make him Mr. Right when he is clearly not, and he, regardless of what he does, gets a "get out of jail card". Not that people make those kind of excuses for him is the weird rust but that people are so desperate to see him as the "right choice" and Kal as the "wrong choice".
  17. Definitely not, could have stayed longer - but I guess chasing Voidbringers is somewhat important (The look of Laral's face was gold though as she realized he is some kind of small godly being - wished for little more dialogue after that - but kaladin would probably have messed it up anyway so hell of an exit)
  18. Glad I already quoted that somewhere otherwise I would have searched the book again just to quote this: Her heart was beating quickly, her skin growing cold her muscles tense. She was fighting the sensation... 'I mean the bridgeboy can have one, and he is darkeyed. Anyway it's not so different than that.' 'Thank you', she thought, 'for ranking every woman equally to peasants' but she held her tounge, this was obviously an important moment for him. He was trying to be broadminded, but thinking of what she'd done pained her - holding the weapon would be worse. So much worse, she wanted to hide but she couldn't. This truth refused to budge from her mind. 'You're right, but -' 'Great, great....' He interrupted her, didn't pay attention to how she felt and rushed off - but she was tense and clearly shaken up by the thought alone... If I'd talk about my new puppy I got not knowing that yours died just yesterday not paying attention and rushing off to get it for you to pet it - I come back and you're crying - did you start to cry on your own or because of something I did and me not being empathetic enough? Not quite the same but the point is clear.
  19. Read again, there is a whole dialogue before she creates radiant she is sweating and shaking for the most part of it and he just keeps going not even really listening to her...
  20. You quite conveniently forgot about adolin himself there. He made her create radiant after all - I think I already mentioned that somewhere, fracturing her further and not even realizing it. Yeah he is the perfect loverboy if you ignore some keypieces, they trained together and she called him brightlord kholin and he didn't even flinch, not to mention that he never even suspected that she was at unease while he mentioned her shardblade and training. Completely oblivious to what she did in kholinar with the spren, more in love with his parties and his new clothes. Let's not forget about killing sadeas in cold blood (sure he earned it but how long did it take before he came clean and why did he do it? Yeah bloodlust and anger, and right - the entire book...) And then trying to push her into kals arms because he is too insecure about her. I'm sure there is more but those are just from the top of my head. Completely stable, a person worth looking up to... Then, he was a womanizer who slept his way through half the daughters of alethkar suddenly redeemed himself being the good boy... I guess that's 90% of the fascination people have with him somehow this is a good quality 'to be the one who stops the womanizer womanizing' is something most girls like I guess. Not saying he is a bad person But (and that's a big but) the outright glorification of him being Mr. Right in every way and most people just rolling with the resolve not caring that it just doesn't make sense, that it isn't even remotely a good resolve is just absolute chulldung. Seriously at this point I really wish for shallan to realize that she doesn't need a man to be whole. Because that would be way better than what we got here... -.-
  21. If it's my choice - windrunner - because flying hello, no more reasons needed. If it's depending on personality traits or what would just fit I guess it would be more like a lightweaver - too good at lying because I almost always tell the truth and if I have to lie for some reason I just do it way too convincingly. Also I'm stubborn as hell and care too much for people so probably some tiny windrunner there too (or edgedancer - I will listen and I will remember those who have been forgotten... seems like it fits somehow)
  22. Let's be real about something here though - Shallan isn't Shallan - like just because this one personality is named like the original one it's only one third of her anyway - dismissing all the others just because she named them differently is just pure madness. A lot of you take the shallan persona for the real deal and say she needs to heal - yeah sure she does but that's done by accepting that she's all 3 of her splintered personas not the one who is fractured needs to suck it up and take command. Shallan is Shallan, Veil and Radiant not one or the other. Let's remember the time she went after jasnah traveling through whole roshar - taking challenge after challenge and when jasnah disappeared and their ship sank - she went straight to her later minions who were deserters ready to kill her.. the shallan we have in OB later would never do that but would let take veil or radiant over because that's where she stored her part that would be able to do stuff like that (as we see in the chase after rei-shephir (or however that's spelled correctly)). That said, Adolin is the one who 'accepts' the girlish, idiotic fractured shallan who likes to draw, the 'real' her - which in truth won't help her a bit - since when somebody tells you 'hey I really love that part of you the most - this is you' you probably act like it to please the other person not even considering the issue of having problems like fractured personas - but it will end badly once you cant act any longer and the truth comes out eventually. And what exactly on that whole scenario helps shallan now in the long run? Sorry don't see it. Also I have to agree with Sedside here it just feels completely unnatural and weird. The trope thing was just the icing on the cake but - show me any girl who is torn between 2 guys and then suddenly decides out of the blue 'hey storm this - I'm not only making a choice right now after almost dying in the ultimate battle - I'll screw myself so badly that I just get married instantly - because at least if it's the wrong choice I'm really stormed' Sounds totally reasonable...
  23. First of all, why guns? Ugh we don't need those kind of weapons - they are not meant for killing humans but giant stone monsters. If they would ever need that kind of stuff just get a few stormbreakers and windrunners together and lash some rocks onto something Also I guess the "one solid piece thing" a spren could change into is dependant on the oaths - because... Well try to move in an armor that is one solid piece... and what else except a spren could change into the armor that magically drops the visor and deflects almost everything..?
  24. If this truly is the end it's really disappointing, he went with the 'prince gets the girl always no matter what' clichè trope too many times now... Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, it's hinted and probably will be the very same in Skyward, and then we get a triangle in SA and what is he going for in the end? Yeah right - prince gets the girl again... like seriously...? He writes great stories - no denying that, but boy - he really needs to get away from that boring predictable clichè lovecrap. What exactly was the point teasing all that what could have been interesting and something new when he just goes for default choice A again...? Damnation, remind me to skip all the couple stuff in books that might come in the future -.-
  25. Usually Brandon never gives away that sort of spoilers - so either he really does feel bad about the way it went or 'shallan' has made up her mind - who says it's not one of the fractured personalities - just because she stuck with her first name? She did change a lot and pattern said in the end 'it's a good you' - either way - kaladin and lift in like 10 years or so Would be definitely hilarious
