Tria scans Vanessa. "You're clear. Spark, what do you know about those chips?"

"Not much. They can track location in most circumstances, but can be destroyed with a localized EMP--if it's strong enough... knowing that might be handy if we can rescue your friend from Konna--though I don't have the tools to make something that can focus an EMP, let alone make one..."

Spark proceeds to take off his guard disguise, showing that he was wearing rugged and nondescript clothes.

"Thanks for not immediately killing me, it means a lot."

  2. Spark sank to the floor while holding his neck, finally getting some air.

Raggedly, Spark remarked "Konna puts RFIDs (microchips) somewhere in most of her Epics and all of the guards. How do you think she finds them?"

    Spark sighs, tired.

"I'm glad you are being vigilant, if you want to check me for RFIDs, please do so."

Can I add that--about the microchips?

(Thanks for not shooting me XD)

Spark grunted as he hit the wall; his sharp intake of breath cut short by the firm pressure of a dagger against his throat. A little dazed, he realized he was staring into the eyes of someone who would kill him if he breathed too hard...
"I'm... not with the guards..." Spark got out, nicking himself a little on the firmly held knife. "I didn't know... you were here."

The incredulous look she gave Spark made his heart sink... I better say something good, and quick.

"Look in my right trouser pocket, there is a drive there that has data from the servers at the compound (complex?). I barely got out when the alarms were going off..." Spark rambled quickly, trailing off at the end--waiting for her reply.

Spark rounded a corner, sliding into a cave.

Should be safe here he thought, out of breath.

Arighty guys, I'm in the cave. Shoot me in the arm or leg or something... I am disguised as a guard anyway...

(This is going to be painful, Spark thought retroactively...)

  5. Spark pulled out his flash drive and interface as the server booted up.
Now all I have to do is NOT trigger the system security. Do that, and I'm in.

"...1) Insert the 2 USB-A wires into the device's USB-A inputs closest to the motherboard..." Spark murmured to himself, glad he memorized the instructions. "So that should be these...," connecting the interface with 2 little clicks.

(More fiddling with the BIOS and RAID configurations...)

(I have no idea what I'm doing... :D)

"Alright, so now I wait for the machine to do its thing..."
The interface clicked and whirred as different LEDs gradually lit up.
"No detection yet..." Spark whispered uneasily to no one.

After what felt like an eternity, there was a sound like an old toaster finishing its cycle as a row of green LEDs blinked twice and lit up.
    Bingo!

"As smooth as butter..." Spark said as he pushed the flash drive into the server's port, which was the one he wasn't supposed to connect to. The server beeped happily, as if taunting him as the simple error message popped up. "Welp, I'm toast" Spark muttered as he began to realize what was happening. That's when the alarm started blaring.

    ...

They really need to make that quieter... Spark thought as he ran through the complex, a drive in his pocket (with very little data for all the trouble he went through to get it). Fortunately, the drive was programed to immediately start copying files--and got a decent chunk of data. Unfortunately, Spark had no way of knowing what was on it until he got back to a computer or mobile, and some of it was likely corrupted because he had to leave in a hurry.

He kept running, finding a door and going out--following his gut.

None of the guards noticed the one guard that lagged behind the other party of guards patrolling. And they didn't notice when he slipped away, running away from the field and into cover...

Sooo... I'm in a room with some old computers (as Spark), my plan:

Hack computers, get some data, and then fail a hack in my attempt to get more. This will trigger an alarm that (1) causes a distraction for others, and (2) puts me on a path towards running into one of the other groups. My introduction will be me (disguised as a guard) almost getting shot by one of the good guys.

I'll leave the room with a flash drive, but not have enough time to view any information.

    I'm still writing this part

Alright, so Spark's (my) goal is to find an object or device... one that is currently unknown. He is disguised as a guard somewhere in a complex of Konna's. (The 'where' isn't important at the moment.)

Meanwhile elsewhere, Spark finishes picking a lock to an out-of-the-way room.

"Gotcha!" Spark exclaims with a smile--the door opening inward. Kicking himself immediately after remembering that he is trying to be quiet. A little chagrined, Spark walks into the room and closes the door behind him. The lights are off, but that's no problem as he pulls out a pen light.

As he illuminates the room, he finds that the room is empty--except for some unpowered servers, a couple unlit screens, and two more doors.

Well, I guess I'll just look at the computers until I find something--anything that could be a clue...

He moves over to the other side if the room and powers a server on...

Please feel free to add to my side story, I hope to eventually merge with one of the groups...

Hey guys! I'm new here :D

I'd like to jump in, but I don't know how yet... Here are my thoughts thus far:

I'd like to a non-epic. Secretive and not currently known. Maybe disguised as a guard and attacks another to jump into story?

    Specialty: tech or mechanical stuff

Goal: will stop at nothing to steal back the <insert thingy here> (it has to be a good thingy)

Flaw: is not a people person; not experienced with espionage, but passable... (More?)

    Alias: Spark

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    Other things:

(I'd love some tips on formating...)

I'm working on being active on the Shard. I'm in GMT-6/MDT, my work is through Discord so ping me whenever (spockledorf#1129)

I'll throw myself in near the lab, impersonating an insignificant person? I've read back a couple of pages, but assume I have no context for anything. ;) @Mist

    Meanwhile elsewhere:

What am I doing, what am I doing, what am I doing?! Spock's thoughts screamed as he--blessedly--didn't draw too much attention walking through the complex.

If one person so much as asks me how my day is going, I'm through! Spock thought, those guys sent me here to find it--without telling me exactly what the 'it' is...

  10. Hello everyone! Thank you for all the amazing feedback! :D I haven't been to the shard in far too long a time...

Update for sheet music @FriarFritz @Cynicalwindmill @GoWibble @Trentolio @Truthwatch3r @Matrim's Dice @Experience, I typically start on it once I am finished, but it seems that many are interested in having it as soon as possible ;) so my goal is to post whatever I have for "The Wind's Pleasure" by this Saturday. (Meaning, I'm saying this so I get it done, so feel free to message me and hound me to get it done :D)

@BringerOfLight yes, I've considered writing for Hoid's stories. What holds me back is that I don't want to create a piece that wouldn't match nor live up to the stories, I feel I'm not quite ready for that... As for the different instruments, I can play the piano but nothing else really. Though I currently have an electric keyboard, and I could make it a flute, I guess... :)

@FriarFritz I written a lot of little things; a pattern here, a pattern there... (ignore the accidental pun) I post some of my work to the 17th shard, but not all of it ;) You can find me at @spockledorf.piano on Instagram

I probably should've gone in order, because I listened to the Wind's Pleasure, then Shallan's theme, then this. Nonetheless, can I, like, hire you or something? Your work is absolutely AMAZING.

Thank you so much, @Channelknight Fadran! No one has asked if they could hire me for playing piano... :) I'm glad you appreciate the piece! I saw your post on Cosmere music--I'm in! I'd love to join in on making wholesome pieces of music, I love the idea musicians coming together to make and critique each others music! Let's do it!

I had recorded an updated version of Tien's Song that accurately matches the score I made (finally!).
