First time listening to one of these podcasts and man now I wish I had started sooner! I think I was smiling and grinning almost throughout the whole thing while also working on some art stuff on photoshop (which crashed at the 43min mark I think...) I have to say I absolutely love all of your enthusiasm and the way you discuss the books. I have barely anyone irl to talk with about the Cosmere (though I'm working on getting two of my friends to read the books!) so 17th Shard is my place to relax after work now~ And to think I have so many shardcasts to go through makes me happy. I wholeheartedly agree on Renarin and how adorable the scene was where Jasnah tells him they'll find a way to get through it all. Reminded me of how my aunt let me know about my asperger's symptoms and how it's alright to be a bit different. I really hope we'll get some (=a lot of) Renarin's point of view in the next book! And more Adolin. And Kholins in general. About Adolin's friendships, I think he's becoming closer friends with Kaladin, slowly but still. And I think it'll be a good thing for both of them. I should've gone to sleep already... But I wanted to write this comment out now right after listening to the shardcast instead of waiting till tomorrow (when I probably wouldn't post it anymore). Who needs sleep when there is the whole cosmere to discuss! (Oh also, I think my mind was slightly blown when I heard you all pronounce the names of the characters. So far I've been reading the books and pronounced the names in my head like I would if reading in my own language so for a moment I didn't realise you were talking about Shallan at all:'D Most of the names were similar, but very eyeopening and interesting anyway!)

Then Dalinar gets confused even further and ends up uniting the whole cosmere into one planet.

Shallan and Adolin's wedding gifts from Cosmere characters
Messydesk replied to Messydesk's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I wonder if Shallan will create another version of herself to act as the perfect or "perfect" wife... Okay most likely not since she already spends time with Adolin in each of her current versions. But it would be funny. Though I am interested in seeing how their marriage works out and how it'll evolve their relationship. These are perfectxD! Poor Marsh... I bet Kelsier set him up, promising he would come with him so people wouldn't be so scared of his appearance and then Kel ditches him and goes rummaging around the palace. And I can totally see Stormfather sending a highstorm and calling it a gift. Kaladin would consider it a gift though. MeLaan... damnation I wish she could be in Roshar causing trouble. Haha Shallan would probably draw her own version of that book! -
After finishing Oathbringer and being really disappointed we didn't get to see the actual wedding;_; I was wondering what Kaladin and Bridge Four would give Adolin as a wedding gift. Definitely not a sword like everyone else did since that would be too "normal". Adolin would deserve something similar as Shallan with those boots. First I thought about posting this on the Stormlight Archive section and list what other characters would've given them, but then I thought it would be funnier to include all Cosmere characters. So, what do you think other characters would've given Shallan and Adolin for their wedding gift? I'll start with few and probably write down some more at work today since it'll be a slow day anyway. Ruin (and probably Harmony too now that I think about it) would give an earring for each. Wit would give a lengthy insult in a form of a musical. Wayne would trade a half eaten rollkebab chouta to a sketch from Shallan's sketchpad. Jasnah would give a lecture for both about how to be in a proper relationship since single people usually give the best relationship advice anyway. Vin would give Adolin a chance to duel a Mistborn. Sazed (not yet Harmony) would give a presentation of few religions out of his copperminds to offer a replacement for dead Almighty. Pattern would happily buzz the permission to mate. Kelsier... would probably just rob them and give nothing except a smile when leaving the party with his loot.

So we do agree that Rock's strength is above others and it's not from the Stormlight. My point was about what is he made of as in what is the source of the inhuman strength (Horneaters are still a race of humans on Roshar, I don't think the blood of listeners in their ancestry alone would explain the strength) and why he possibly wasn't affected by a Shardblade the same way others are. As @king of nowhere said, Rock might be closer to the cognitive realm which could explain the cuts. I really hope we'll get more about Rock and his past in the next book.

That's an interesting point and makes it all sound better than what I had in my head. I really need to read Edgedancer to learn more about Lift, I should get around to it next week or so. I thought that in the beginning too when I first read the chapter, but I don't believe in the "more than one attacker" thing as I mentioned in the op, because of three reasons. Bisig says he saw one attacker, I think he would've mentioned if he saw more even though the Bridge Four uniform was the main focus. I don't think a Shardbearer would've needed any help even against someone with an honorblade. And why would the shardbearer ignore Rock who was probably the most dangerous of those three men? Sure he could've known that Rock is a pacifist and most likely doesn't have the blade, but he would still need to be dealt with. I think the book makes deliberate point out of it since it could've just said "they were all hit by a Shardblade and Eth was dead". And would Rock really lose against someone with a regular sword? This made me also think that maybe Rock ran into the room after Bisig and Eth were attacked, and the attacker tried hitting him with the Shardblade but was surprised how it didn't affect him like the others. The attacker already had what he wanted so he would just leave Rock to bleed instead of wondering what was going on. If it was anyone else than Kaladin asking the question how he was able to use it I would lean towards Rock's own stupidly strong arms as well, but Kaladin knew Rock was able to swing a tree trunk without the help of Stormlight, so why would he make a point of him using a Shardbow then? Why wouldn't he just think "Should've guessed Rock would be able to use one without a Plate" or something.

The title was not intended to be a pun but oh well. (I read all three SA books in a row so I could finally join the SA discussions \o/) I finished reading Oathbringer this morning I did an allnighter and almost regret it, I'm getting too old for doing those;_; and there are few things bothering me about Rock. First the obvious question asked by Kaladin "how did he use the Shardbow?" since Stormlight doesn't give you superhuman strength like Plate does, so he shouldn't have had the strength to pull back the string. I started thinking about the other things that are odd about him and remembered that in the Interludes before Part 5 Rock, Bisig, and Eth were attacked. Bisig and Eth had Shardblade wounds on them but Rock was only "sliced up good, a half dozen cuts that looked like they'd come from a knife". Why would a Shardbearer use his blade only on two of the bridgemen? And why not use it on Rock who was probably the most dangerous looking (as in looking big and strong, not mean haha) of those three? It wouldn't be so suspicious if Rock's wounds were something else than "slices" and "cuts" (even word choice like "stab" would've made it sound more like an actual knife), but it made me think that what if the Shardbearer did try to kill Rock, too, with the Blade but for some weird reason it cut him like a regular sword/knife would? According to Bisig there was one attacker in Bridge Four uniform so I don't think there would've been another attacker with a regular knife attacking Rock. I know it sounds illogical for a Shardblade to suddenly work like a regular sword on a living being but... Still. Rock has the strength to use a Shardbow and a Shardblade might not be that deadly to him. What is that storming Horneater chef made of?! I also read Bigmikey357's theory of Rock being a Lightweaver which was very interesting and has very good points about Rock's lies to the others.

I'll put my response to inside spoiler tag since it's some Stormlight stuff in a Mistborn thread.

I've been wondering the same thing, I want to believe that Spook's still alive since nowhere is it stated that he is indeed dead or how he died. And if he did rule for 100 years he would be well over the average human lifespan (around 120 was mentioned somewhere in the books, right?). Now I also started to think about Kell's body, since I too had thought for a while that he was using Spook's body. But whoever's body he's using, I wonder how his scars were visible in that memory Wax saw of him at the end of Bands of Mourning. If he was using someone else's body there shouldn't be his signature scars? And his body is long gone, TenSoon has his bones but wouldn't be able to just create him a new body out of them. Though he could've made a bald close-enough-look-a-like of Kell in hooded robes like he did earlier in the first trilogy. ...Could Kell be connected to a kandra's body? But then again, how would TenSoon have gotten himself to the other side of the sea. He would've had to eat an orca or shark or something else big enough for him to be able to fit all the necessary parts into the body. A regular sized fish would've been troublesome (VenDell told Wayne that transforming into smaller animals is problematic when he was asked about becoming a bunny).

If Mistborn becomes a musical I know few good songs. A Disney Sing Along with Kelsier: Ready To Die by Andrew WK

Hnnng I wish I could buy the leatherbound books but at the moment I am unemployed so can't afford any physical hardcovers, let alone leatherbounds;_; But that means I have more time for reading while looking for a job~ I do have a dream of buying the leatherbound book of Elantris once I have a job again and can afford nice things. I would have the personalized version since I doubt I'll be able to attend any events overseas any time soon... But one day I will!

That's a good point. I also started wondering that maybe there were songs before TLR took control but were destroyed and forgotten like all the religions were. I think there could've been a Keeper specialized in songs but who got killed before passing on the copperminds... And I had completely forgotten the mention of Radio technology! If that doesn't give us some singing in Scadrial then there has to be something wrong:'D And I have to agree with your statement about Wayne... Maybe whistling and humming is distracting enough for him but straight out singing, even with soft voice, would be too much. I'm reading Way of Kings right now and got to page 100something last night, I did note the second occasion you mentioned and that made me think "well at least there IS some on-screen singing in Sanderson's books so it's not completely left out". Also, I'm so happy to see this thread got so many interesting responses! I was afraid it would be too boring of a subject since it's not really a big topic for possible theories...
-
So last week when I was finishing the Bands of Mourning I started thinking "would Wayne be good at singing too?" since he's so good at accents and likes to whistle. I thought about it a bit further and realized that he has indeed done accents, whistled, and even hummed, but never actually sang. Does he not like singing for some reason? I believe he would be able to sing at least on some decent level since singing is, to some extend, possible to learn by practising despite the voice you have. Then I started thinking back to the first trilogy, there were balls with dance and music but no singing. I could understand if the Lord Ruler had forbidden singing for some weird reason, but then again, wouldn't people like Kell then go against it and sing just because? Even if singing was "forgotten" it wouldn't be difficult to "rediscover" since it's more or less something anyone can do. Is there a reason why no one is singing even though music and dancing and even humming is a thing? I haven't yet read enough other Sanderson's works to know whether it's a common thing in his books or just in the world of Mistborn... Anyway, the original question I had in mind that branched into this wider thought process was: Does Wayne like to sing? What do you all think? I would love to either hear him sing or hear a reason for why he doesn't sing in the last book of Wax and Wayne series. Maybe he did sing when he was younger but some girl laughed at him and he swore to never do it again?

I'll definitely give the Alleyverse a better look tomorrow, from what I read about it tonight it seems really interesting:) Though I should probably read the Stormlight archive before hopping into the RP. I finished Emperor's Soul today so I can move on to Way of Kings now~ But, that gives me plenty of time to lurk around and try to make sure I understand how RPing works before I hop into it:D
-
I have to admit I have never actually roleplayed even though I'm interested in it. I'm just such a chicken I create a character and then never have the courage to actually get involved with any RP:'D I haven't checked out the Mistborn Adventure Game yet but I'm very much interested in it. I wouldn't mind trying some RPing sometime, but first I need to learn more about it (like how it generally works, rules etc. I'm a newb).

Thank you Rebecca and Sorana! I use my phone to read e-books too, I'm not ready to invest into a pad yet so I'll have to bear with the small screen and read only 1/3 of a page at a time... Thank Harmony I found the Way of Kings as a paperback from the city library so I can read that the proper way

My current username (Messydesk) is a rather recent one since I needed a name to use on an instagram account I made for my handcrafts. I don't like to use my full actual name anywhere online apart from my resume. Messydesk is quite literal and refers to my desk being always messy no matter how often I organize it. I thought it would be easier to keep it clean if I had a separate desk for my handcrafts from my desk for PC and drawings. Now I have two messy desks. Sooo I decided to embrace the creative chaos. I also intend to stick to this username for longer than any of my previous ones. (Also, since Messydesk is a bit long to sign any of the illustrations I make I usually just shorten it to MdA and the year of the drawing, A refers to Art here.) Other older usernames I have used and were kinda fond of are ScytheDancer, my very first username online I think, picked that one since DancingBlade (reference to Smash Bros Melee) was taken and I liked scythes at the time. Well, still do. I also used NorthChild a lot which referred to my location in the world, and my current username in Guild Wars 2 is a shorter version of that: Northy. Then I realized it sounds like "Naughty" so I now just use my first name when I play with my friends and guildies. I've always been a bit jealous to people who have been able to stick to only one username, I have a friend who has been using her artist name ever since I met her in high school.

Thank you:D! Thank you! I was in the exact same situation, desperate to finish reading the trilogy so I bought the e-book and read it on my phone. Even though it was sometimes uncomfortable and I was constantly checking the page count (I always keep fiddling the next page or pages till next chapter when I read) I eventually started liking the e-format enough to buy the Wax and Wayne series in e-books too. I decided to buy the English versions in e-format and then buy the physical Finnish versions once they are translated since my bookshelf space is limited... We'll see how long that decision holds though since I really would want to buy the hardcover versions of Wax and Wayne series x)

My favorite metal is brass since I would love to have a personal Soother to relieve my stress and anxiety from time to time, doesn't matter if it's only numbing the feelings temporarily. I would've been happy to hang out with Breeze and be his little helper in exchange of some Soothing instead of telling him to stop pushing my feelings:'D The metal I would like to be able to burn myself would probably be bendalloy to give me more time to think before I speak so I wouldn't be so awkward. Though I guess it would become twice as akward if I caught the opponent in my speedbubble too... Hmm. Maybe feruchemical zinc would be more suitable for that. Though I do like steel too, would be cool to "dance" in the air by pushing on various metal anchors:D

By Harmony these are awesome! Kelsier vs Inquisitor was sending shivers down my spine and I started remembering the fight between them... It's pretty much a perfect theme for that fight since it tells the story of the fight. Inquisitor being strong, strange/unknown, and menacing while Kelsier being the hope and fighting with all he's got to turn the fight around. damnation I miss reading that part of the book. Though my favorite one out of these gotta be Wayne's theme. Sure I'm biased here since Wayne is my second favorite character in the Mistborn series, but I think your interpretation fits him so well:D I was actually expecting it to be more ”light(hearted) and smooth” kind of melody (I don't know how to describe music tbh, I'm more of a visual artist so please bear with me) but was happily surprised to hear the more ”rough and strong” version since Wayne is such a rough character. He's fun and quirky, almost never shuts up and still kicks chull instead of being all talk. I especially liked the difference in the rhythm (or tempo? I'm hopeless I know.) since it goes with his use of bendalloy, but also with his habit of picking up accents. Great work on all of them! I'll definitely put one or two of them on my mp3 player (yes I'm ancient like that) when I go out on a walk and brainstorm stuff:D

Hello everyone! I'm Messydesk because my desk is always more or less messy and after years of struggling against it I've finally learnt to embrace it instead. That said, about a month ago I gave The Mistborn series a try. I hadn't been reading much since Lord of the Rings and Althalus in middle school (over 10 years ago, ouch) due to various reasons, I kept dropping books I had started and only read comics for a long time. I just couldn't get into any modern fantasy or sci-fi books at all. I had heard of Mistborn earlier and had it on a post-it note stuck on my bookshelf's glass door along with some other titles, but I never really took the time to look into it. Until, I was in my local bookstore with a friend and noticed an interesting looking book on the shelf. It was called "Usvasyntyinen: viimeinen valtakunta" and I was wondering why it sounded so familiar. Well, it was the Finnish translation of Mistborn: The Final Empire. I was intrigued and finally decided to give it a read. And boy do I regret not picking it up sooner! I read the first book and then bought the second one. After that I was looking forward to reading the third one but apparently the Finnish version of it will be released in December 2018. damnation. So I checked the city library for the English version but it was not going to be available for two weeks. I was growing desperate and decided to do something unexpected: buy an e-book. I know e-books are very popular and common but I'm such an old-fashioned relic who absolutely loves physical books, especially hard covers. Anyway, I read the third book and then moved on to Mistborn: Secret History, being a Kelsier fangirl I just had to know what happened to him. After that I had accepted the fact that if I wanted to read the Wax and Wayne series I would have to buy the e-books, since those were not available at all even in the city library. But reading them was the best decision of my life. Sorry for the long intro:D I don't know how long these introductions are meant to be but since I have a lot to say might as well write them here now before moving to the other parts of the forum. I haven't been actively a part of any fandom in years so I was a bit hesitant to join here, but the Sanderson fandom seems so friendly and interesting I decided to hop in. I also have practically no one in real life to talk with about these books (Sanderson's works are still quite new here) so these forums seemed like the best place to join:D I was also working on some art last night and needed to find the symbols for all the metals, instead of actually being productive I ended up reading Mistborn memes and incorrect quotes for two hours and giggling like an idiot. Good thing I live alone. I think the two main things in Sanderson's books that keep me invested and hooked are the characters and mysteries that can be solved by using logic. I love how varied and non-cliche the characters are. Kelsier is still my favorite one even though Wayne comes very close second. The female characters are also very well written in the series, especially I grew to love Steris due to her being strong and useful without becoming a physical fighter like the others. And she knew when it was wise to stay out of the way. That's something I don't see often. I could write an essay about the characters and why I love each and every one of them but I'll leave that to the proper parts of the forum:D Anyway, thanks for reading my little wall of text and I'm looking forward to being part of this community! I'm also picking up the Way of Kings next so I can have something to distract me from the fact that the next ( and last;_; ) Wax and Wayne book will be released next year. I'm also interested in this Hoid character I see mentioned often in the fandom... Everyone have a great day and see you here in the forums! -Messydesk ps. About e-books, I actually have started to like them a bit more since google books has a dictionary feature that is so helpful when I encounter new words in English. I iz learning!
