Prediction: Odium’s champion will be Gavinor
Oltux72 replied to coolsnow7's topic in Stormlight Archive
Exactly. I still think the double kill is the outcome Odium is most likely to aim for. -
Your opinions on the Child Champion theory
Oltux72 replied to Frustration's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Alethi have a very negative view on treason. Gavinor, as he raises his sword against his country, is no longer innocent. He would be a traitor. Age does not matter. He would be willing to fight against Alethkar. -
My apologies, you are right. It cannot be that easy. Though I must ask, how sure are we that what we get in English as "Stormblessed" is a compound in Alethi?

If we go for the obvious, the central bannered spear is Kaladin, the four spears is Bridge Four and the lines are more spears that join later. Kaladin is a leader of fighters. Well, I hate to spoil any fun, but there being two glyphs, mirrored on a central axis, isn't the simplest explanation that those are the glyphs for "storm" and "bless" ? The sun perhaps? Or a symbolic representation of unity? Thrusting weapons into the disk of the sun to have them backlit is a part of traditional depictions. Why do you assume that this refers to one person? The tower does really imply a Bondsmith, but which one? The crown - well, there are many crowned people: Gavilar, Elhokar, Jasnah, Rayse ... The Knights Radiant and hereditary monarchy don't really mix. Their leader must be Radiant, likely a Bondsmith. Being one of them means bonding a spren that you cannot just pass on as inheritance. Navani by default. This is not really about what you want. If it were she wouldn't be a Bondsmith. To put it bluntly, she has sworn the oath. It comes with obligations, which supercede personal preferences. Well, the Stormfather or the Nightwatcher would pick. The link between Bondsmiths and leadership looks strong. The whole story about the Stormfather's mission depends on it. And there is the problem. He is a Windrunner and putting a Windrunner in a position of absolute leadership is problematic.

You killed a monstrous dictator to set your people free by sacrificing yourself and thereby kill almost everybody on your world. Flooding a market square with blood of people just snatched from the streets? Infants butchered to make magic items? Adolescent girls taken from villages for the sexual pleasure of their lease holders only to be executed?

If I may say so, the theories I am seeing here, lack an element of motivation. Why would anybody willingly face the Blackthorn or the Assassin in White or Stormblessed in living Plate? Yes, it would be nice to see X, fighting, but why does X suddenly feel suicidal? Even if you let them host Yelig-nar, who would fit the bill and not know what happened to Amaram and Aesudan? People don't generally throw their lives away because they are evil.

Where is the ideological difference in a battle though? Nale fought for the Singers because they owned the land. Now with Odium, who is the commander of the Singers, having decided that the fate of the land should hinge on a battle, the Singers are no longer the clear owners of the land. It seems to me that with this agreement the reason Nale and his sworn people fought at all has vanished.

Marsh still being alive shows that the existing metal survived his demise. The question is where it will go when used up. The choice of victims to abduct is peculiar. I think he is wrong and they are breeding a Mistborn. The tale of the goose with the golden eggs. And why wait for the powers? Spike them and test the spike.

Necromancy? But are you connected to the person or ist the person merely or facultatively a pointer to the land. Can you get a language from an inanimate object? What happens if you are connected to somebody who understands it because he learned the language naturally? So if it was encoded by hand, you'll understand it, but a machine used to encode would make it imcomprehensible? The target would presumably understand how to decode it and would understand the result, but has not understood or decoded the language. And one more bonus question. Can you connect to your past self? That is if you record yourself speaking a language acquired by connection, will you understand yourself later?
-
Connection lets you understand and speak languages. The most impressive feat came from Venli when she understood the returning Fused in Oathbringer. How indirectly can this ability work? If she finds a book in an extinct language, can she read it, because the author and readers understood it? If the speaker does not know what he or she is saying, i.e. an actor giving a phonetically learned speech, will she understand it? If the speaker intends not to be understood, like in the cases rare languages are used for secure radio communication or a message is written in code, will she understand it?

Desolations Catacendre Arrival of the Evil Destruction of Ashyn Fall of Elantris Where isn't it? That would be easier to answer.

The man bathes in blood. Death rates in excess of 90% are common. And there is quite some cruelty. Sounds innocent? Only until you ask yourself how thay make painrials. And that is typical. The horror can be deduced, but is never mentioned. So I would propose that we create a new label for Brandon Sanderson: grimlight

They learned something major about the Recreance It brought a worldhopper from Scadrial to a place where traders from Scadrial stop It got us Sixteen It really got Adolin the short end. He just does not know it. With the war ending in ten days his mission has become moot. Kalak was introduced I'd say that the Honorspren are for the second arc and the fuses for Book 5 got lit in the secondary issues. Brandon Sanderson is a twisty and devious narrator.

Get the Regals to the places you need Investiture. That ship sailed when they sent assassins after Jasnah and captured Lift.

The Threnodite invasion of Iri was really unexpected when Cucisesh opened a portal for the Shades.

Thinking about this, one thing became clear to me. Odium won the false Desolation. Due to the false Desolation The Knights Radiant disbanded The alliance between man and Spren was shattered. The Skybreakers split off. The Singers could not develop independently for millenia and lose the appetite to fight to avenge something that happened in the remote past He made sure the Parshmen who regained forms would be in the mood for revenge He prevented the advances Surgebinders would make in millenia of study of Arcane Arts All this he achieved by sacrificing Ba-Ado-Mishram. He wanted her to be captuired. It was a trap and they fell for it. The SIngers lost everything, but their lives. But for Odium the Singers are a means to an end. The Singers losing is not the same as Odium losing. The true losers of the False Desolation were the Spren. Odium dealt a real blow to those he otherwise could not touch. The Recreance was his feat.

Hi, I am trying to find a title that is no spoiler. Their plan opens up a question. Why don't they capture a few Regals and have them provide Voidlight as slave labor?

Evolution of Singers and its effect on how the fused function
Oltux72 replied to Cyprian Wiley's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No. That fossil seems to have been of a mollusc. Roshar does not have them, at least on land or in shallow waters. Roshar surely has fossilzed cremlings. A few tens of thousands of years are enough for that. In fact, I doubt Vasher has any idea how old fossils really are. She was the leader of several desolations wasn't she? So we have not seen her, but there are indications. Nale can. As far as we have data, it is possible. -

Roshar has things made by fiat and you can see them: the Singers The Singers make no sense within the rest of Roshar's fauna. They have no antennas and too few limbs and looking like human beings. -

That we must take to mean that Vasher is sure that Nalthis is too young to have macroscopic fossils. However, he does not know how old Roshar is. The age of Nalthis and Roshar are independent. That could bound Ba-Ado-Mishram. They made be able to form a Nahel bond. Yes, we have to talk why they cannot take a new form. I'd say the simplest answer is that their gemheart is full. No additional Spren fits. -

Oltux72 replied to Cyprian Wiley's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Roshar has families of related animals. Their science has a systematics of chrysalis shapes. That takes tens of millions of years minimum. Vasher cannot know what deep sea animals Roshar has or had. Their science is not up to that task and he hardly can do original research or would want to. He was not bounded in that sense. She never changed to "Ulim-form". He was inside her body in the way Timbre can be. Timbre does not cast out the Spren giving her Envoyform. Yet they cast out the Spren in the gemheart, or the Fused would not have specific forms according to brand. -
We chose. You may look at this as significant in a moral sense, but it also contains information. The most important implication is that they did not know about deadeyes. We must assume, though we are not explicitely told, that the capture of Ba-Ado-Mishram caused them to form. That means we must forget the psychological explanation for the Recreance. It never made much sense. If you do not know about deadeyes the human side of the Knights Radiant cannot end their orders. Spren are immortal. They could just rebond. If you made the common decision to end them, you'd literally do nothing and let time and old age solve your problem. So the Spren together with the physical beings decided. Nor would they have chosen so unanimously. If you look at modern Radiants like Jasnah, a significant number among the Radiants must have considered wiping out the Singers to be a stroke of luck, not a tragedy. Problem solved forever and gotten a useful addition to the work force. But how long did it last? I'll be up front: hours, possibly even just minutes, at most a few days. Why? No deadeyes means no dead Blades. That means that surely if this takes weeks or longer some of the Knights left over would have investigated those Blades without any precedent. And that means that they would have heared the Scream. And that is incompatible with the Spren being surprised with the consequences of the Recreance. (Yes, Maralayam could have been among the very first group. That is against all likelihood. That is grasping at straws.) So why did they do it? It seems to me that the temporal connection to the capture of Ba-Ado-Mishram is too close to be random chance. I propose that the Recreance was an arcane ritual designed to mitigate or reverse the damage done by the capture of Ba-Ado-Mishram. They knew something we do not know and they were in a hurry.
-
They wouldn't. But they would always tell the story of how man arrived on Roshar. Any Rosharan with Stoneshaping and an ounce of historical interest.cannot consider man native to Roshar. The stones may not tell them whence man came, but would they really have a limited capacity for worldhopping and not look at the other planets of their stellar system? With an order of Radiants active i exploration?

Theory on aluminium in light of events in RoW
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That is the prediction you make when you assume that Investiture is just Investiture, respectively that all Investiture is equal. (We are in a naming controversy) I think that Identity is not Investiture. (Or not Investiture in the sense that Stormlight or normal Allomancy are Investiture - again naming). Yes, this theory rests on Kinetic Investirue, Inherent Investiture, Identity, Fortune and Connection being distincr categories. That is not a huge drawback. Given that you can store Identity in aluminium I fail to see how Identity can just be another kind of Investiture under any theory.
