At the end of Oathbringer there were some strange happenings which were bound to raise suspicion Shallan's brothers show up on her wedding day without prior announcement Meridas Amaram goes on Odium's side The Assassin in White switches sides The King's Wit reveals himself to be an alien who is thousands of years old There are some fairly clever people among the leadership of the coalition., so who will be under suspiciom Shallan Wit Szeth Renarin So what can people do to clear their name?

Correct and that is the point. Gold is useless. It may look pretty, but it has no practical use. Spheres are useful. They make light. In fact you can speculate that diamonds are worth least because the church wants the poor to have light. Yes, but that is a problem. Yes, because the value of spheres is basically set by command. This is possible because the issuing authority has a monopoly on soulcasters. 5g of gold are 5g of gold. One chunk of 5g or 5 chunks of 1g. Not true for gems if you soulcast. The rational way to make gems is to use broken gems from soulcasters. Ehm. A fire in a 30% oxygen atmosphere is also a questionable idea. The Azish will dispute that. And they will challenge calling the Thaylens Vorin. Well, it is not a matter of choice.

Jasnah came back from Shadesmar without an overt perpendicularity. There was nothing special about the ship or the location whence she went into Shadesmar either. Does that mean that the Knights Radiant in principle have access to Shadesmar even while Odium's forces hold the Horneater Peaks? If so, can this be used? Will they use it? They have certainly opportunities for trade. Stormlight is essentially free to them. The Spren certainly have knowledge to give. Will they use that opportunity?

What is your favourite magic system in the cosmere?
Oltux72 replied to Adonalsium'sSpren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Allomancy. Mistborn are just too cool. Though I would pick AonDor for myself. -
Well, no. Gold and gems differ in a crucial aspect. You can melt down gold and reunite smaller objects. Gems do not allow that. Spheres are a fiat currency. Well, no. First, those rates must swing with harvests and other economic activity. And, second, their worth is determined by what could be made from the precursors. Fire has few uses that air, smoke or water would not fulfill. While a diamond can make glass. Windows are irreplacable in a sense. We have ten essences. They would use diamonds if they could. They are cheaper. Thaylenah, Reshi and the Iri. It is not a given that the Vorin parts lead economically. In fact it is likely that they will not. Keeping half the people from literacy is likely to be economically unviable. The Vorin parts of Roshar may be permanently economically disadvantaged. Newspapers, traders and other businesses. Economic development need not be driven by average consumers.

There are two ways of looking at this. Either atium flips gold to an external target or gold flips atium to the past. Purely from the effect of malatium we could not tell the difference. If we look at lerasium we need to conclude that gold alters atium. And as soon as we are at that point, all bets are off, as the second parts of the alloy are basically arbitrary in allomancy. In fact, as there are multiple alloys of atium presumably we cannot be sure that the 2x2x2x2 system of allomancy holds true. It does not even hold true for feruchemy.

OK, which concrete fabrials will have been created and/or widely deployed. Some suggestions: painrials - they are just too obvious to use if combined with a long rod or even wire the floating platform - too good for archers the bloodsucker - when Navani switched on the drying fabrial she feared it would suck the blood right out of people - usable idea in a war flame throwers - heating fabrials have the potential to be weaponized
-
The problem with that reasoning is that while the spanreed may be cheapest in manufacture, it need not be cheapest in raw materials. I fact, that is unlikely. This may indeed collapse the Rosharan currency system. They may find out that you can make a regrowth fabrial giving you perfect health with diamonds. It works only if the gem stone buys you more than the usage. Yes. But that does not rule out communal and business use of fabrials. Here we leave Earth analoga a bit behind. The spanreeds will not be used as replacement for telephones. They will kind of run like telegraph offices. You will get a poor peasantry with punctual access to Sci-Fi gadgets as services through commerce. That may radically change for the rarer kinds. One more reason you can offer commercial services with them.

What additional use would a radiant spren be? Bonding it also gives you a Blade and better control. As for a sapient spren, do they yield powers otherwise unavailable? Even so, the political backlash would need an extreme justification.

what command would you give an awakened piece of armor
Oltux72 replied to The Cardinal of Death's topic in Warbreaker
You ordered it to be like Shard Plate. That very much changes to adapt to every wearer. That has features you do not need, like the adaptability. Features it lacks, like some offensive options and undesirable features like extreme weight. That is the question. Do teh requirements grow with the complexity of the command? If so, to which degree? Even if you tell it to be a part of a human shaped set with the command? Well, no. We would like the wearer to be protected if the enemy gets the idea of using flame throwers or magical lightning -

Oltux72 replied to The Cardinal of Death's topic in Warbreaker
Meaning that there is a strong incentive to steal your armor. That said, is this intended for a single fighter? If so, why keep to a purely defensive function? "Defeat attacks on me and repair yourself" Question, can you give the pieces separate commands and order them to join in a complete set? Ordering the legs to aid your movement, a cape to hide you, a helmet to aid your senses and gauntlets to wither your enemies. -
what command would you give an awakened piece of armor
Oltux72 replied to The Cardinal of Death's topic in Warbreaker
"Protect me" is kind of obvious. Maybe "Protect me and repair yourself afterwards" And full plate is kind of necessarily in human shape. No alteration needed. -
Exactly. The humans have numerical superiority and more trained soldiers. They also enjoy naval superiority and hold most oath gates. Ugly guerillia. The Odious forces do have superiority anywhere they wish, but not everywhere. They aren't. Conventional troops are holding the line. Sort of. You attack supply lines. The KR supply intelligence, transport and reinforcements. What are they doing? He may try to attack the oath pact itself by arcane means. THat is the big question. He may need to kill Cultivation. I read it exactly the other way round. The KR have started it.

Why would they bother with fabrials and trapping spren, while they can alter spren directly and have the cooperation of many voidspren? Why not make true Voidbringers through a Nahel bond? Or make minions out of black smoke? Voidbringers riding the dark, smoky dragons, Nazgul style?

To persuade them to increase their number above three was seen as treasonous. So, they can, but they are not allowed to? How else can this be interpreted? The "3" is so important that even suggesting the impossible is treason? Or are there other spren that could potentially make a Bondsmith?
-
It would surprise me a lot if they will not have worked to reactivate Urithiru. On the other hand this happening off camera would be odd. So they will have been failing for most of a year. This needs an explanation. I'd speculate that it is just impossible without the Sibling going back to Urithiru. So who would be the second Bondsmith? Navani looks like the logical choice to me. It would also explain what would justify her venturing out into the field away from Urithiru. Now, this could have other reasons. There may be a big archive or university in Shadesmar. BUt then what about Urithiru?
-
In 2019? What would he he spoil if he just said Dalinar? Or 'a Bondsmith' ? This has merit by not naming the Windrunner. But the Bondsmith? By the end of Oathbringer there is only one, whose identity is well known.
-
WoB on air transport by Windrunners The wording looks suspicious to me. OK, this is quite convoluted. Are we getting a new Bondsmith?
-
I see. This thread is confusing me to an extent. Sorry. Well, the end of WoR makes quite sure that she won't be believed. Roshar does not get the difference between a project manager and a chief engineer. OK, so maybe the first step would be to list theaters/missions and try to match groups to that. I will try to make a list Urithiru (reawaken Urithiru) Urithiru (weapons development - you really cannot put that into the territory of a major member of the alliance) Herdaz & norther Alethkar (fight a guerilla war) The Shattered Plains (hold on to the last vestige of Alethkar and fight the enemy) Aimiah (reconnaisance & weapons development) Cultivation's perpendicularity (interdicting it to the enemy) behind enemy lines (espionage) The Shattered Plains (investigating the Ghostbloods) Urithiru (questioning the Heralds) West of the Purelake (preventing the enemy from joining forces) Shadesmar (research & looking for allies) The Ocean (interdicting enemy trade)
-
There are problems here. If you use a Windrunner on his own, you throw away his squires. And that is a gigantic waste. And Kaladin is a fighter, not a secret agent You would not place your chief engineer and head of R & D on the front lines. The same applies to the engineering tems. That is an emergency measure.

Let us suppose a Misting of cadmium or bendalloy or a Mistborn became a Radiant. That of course can happen. That raises the possibility that such an Allomancer would try to create a time bubble that does not include his spren. What would happen then? In answering this question we need to consider a property of speed bubbles. Hitting the border does not kill you. That is extremely odd, because it definitely should. Just consider what should happen to your brain if your heart rate changed by orders of magnitude with respect to it. Likewise having parts of your brain operate at radically different speeds is not a good idea medically speaking. So you are always either entirely in it or outside it, respectively you destroy the bubble crossing the boundary. It looks like it operates on objects which are a whole in cognitive terms, just like steel and iron usually do.. So we may assume that having one part of a linked spirit web inside a bubble and another part outside is not a good idea. And it will not work. So what would happen. The bubble immediately collapses or does not form You make two bubbles, one around you and one around the spren You sever the bond I tend to option #1. What do you think?

We are frequently assuming that medaillons are based on the feruchemy of nicrosil. That requires a leap of faith on how somebody who is not a feruchemist should be able to tap a nicrosil metalmind. But there is a way to grant such powers. Is it possible that ettmetal or its alloys give you the ability to make a hemalurgic spike that works by mere touch of the recipient? The name 'exciser' sounds pretty hemalurgical. If Kelsier really was the Survivor he had knowledge about hemalurgy and even advanced techniques used to staple back a shadow.

Why do women in The StormLight Archive cover their safehand?
Oltux72 replied to Adonalsium'sSpren's question in Cosmere Q&A
That in turn makes me wonder whether some bars and other facilities are likelier to empliy foreign women in the Vorin lands and what consequences that has had. -
Suppose you come from, say Sel, and are turned into a Cognitive Shadow on Scadrial. Are you bound to the Selish system or to Scadrial?
-
What happens if a hemalurgic construct that gained sentience by hemalurgy formed a Nahel Bond and then got its spikes ripped out? Does the spren become stupid as it cannot gain sentience from its partner? Is the bond broken?
