  1. Any thoughts or suggestions for a prop or costume I can make by Thursday?
  2. What, if anything, could copper potentially do to listeners? Their songs, their forms, any aspect of them?
  3. Hrm... I'm not trying to contradict, I'm simply throwing out some food for thought. To be clear, I'm not sold on your theory, but it's certainly worth considering. Spoilers abound below for Warbreaker, obviously, and there are a few minor ones for Words of Radiance. To lazy to build the spoiler-cuts, so I'm letting this warning and the thread title justify why I can't be bothered. 1. Shard-severed limbs are useless, but the priest who held Nightblood and lost the color of his hand still seemed able to use it just fine. This isn't to say your theory doesn't still have merit, but like Marasi said, finding deviations in the pattern brings wisdom and knowledge. 2. Can color-drain, then, be healed? Let's say you've got a shirt with the color drained out of it. Could someone use Regrowth on it, or even just directly-infuse it with Stormlight, to restore the color? 3. Is there a Command that would give away even MORE of your breath, leaving your body color-less, perhaps even dead, in order to transfer more Breath-energy to someone? In a pinch, could someone learn this technique and Awaken something when they've no color to draw on beyond their own body? Perhaps it would require some specific Heightening... That's all for now, I think.
  4. Well, apart from all this stuff, obviously.
  5. Perhaps Edgedancers and Truthwatchers accessed the Progression Surge on pregnant horses and genetically modified a new breed in utero? Remember, according to Jasnah, 75% of radiants were non-combatants, so perhaps a group of them were horse-breeders.
  6. Source?
  7. No big deal if you sign up for the event but don't make it. There's no minimum people requirement, and it might be a good way to get some information, or even to share it. I'm sure people at the meetup would benefit from your traffic advice. You'd be helping us out a lot.
  8. When Stennimar died the first time, he was in a place across a shimmering curtain of light and color, able to see the future of our world. Where was he? The spiritual realm? The cognitive realm? Somewhere different entirely?
  9. Please feel free to join the meetup event, and share your parking advice with those of us there. Also, there is another thread for the NoVa Signing, already.
  10. If you plan to attend, please sign up for the Meetup! Perhaps we can share duties or just geek out together. Meetup Event
  11. Ah. Short of deleting it and reinstalling it, is there a way to check when the Nook version is updated?
  12. Any chance the Deleted Scene will end up on BrandonSanderson.com in the Deleted Scenes section?
  13. There's a slight chance I'll make the trek up and join you.
  14. ...but you got to meet interesting people, right?
  15. Nihongo no daiteikoku ni itte arimashita.
  16. When you see someone post "Your health is your treasure" on Facebook and you think, "With goldminds that is entirely correct."
  17. @Treb: I am sorry. I needlessly escalated our disagreement. I was aggressive and unreasonable. I should have accepted your apology with grace. I only hope your feelings on "men who have done terrible things, regret them, and deserve redemption" extends from Amaram to my humble self. @Feather: I am sorry. I did not show you the respect you were due. It was wrong of me to spead to a moderator as I did. Please forgive me.
  18. Kay I've had a new brainstorm. This is enormously speculative, so I anticipate that someone's gonna respond with a WoB that proves I have no idea what I'm talking about. ^^;;; First, it's based on the idea that fabrials use the Surges. Most specifically, Soulcasters clearly access Transformation. I suspect that as we learn more about fabrials and the Surges themselves, we'll discover more connections between the two. I realize that, as yet, we know of very few. If so, we know that Grandbows are "enhancement" fabrials; they increase the innate strength of the steel of the Grandbow. Does this imply that one of the Surges can do that? Increase native attributes of things? Enhance strength? In my theory, Elhokar accessed a Surge via his Honorblade that cracked his gemstones. Could he have accessed the one that would have enhanced Dalinar's own strength, or the powers of his Shardplate?
  19. Interesting thoughts. I like it. Here's my rough idea, though it's almost entirely speculation. Surgebinding came first. It was how Honor and Cultivation worked together to grant Investiture to mankind. Voidbinding came second. Odium showed up. We've seen hints that he takes other things and corrupts them. I'm not sure I think Voidbinding is a mix of Honor and Odium, so much as it's Odium took the thing Honor and Cultivation had, and corrupted it to serve his own purpose. Fabrials, I think they're a method humans made up themselves to access the Surges when the Radiants, Spren, and Cultivation abandoned them, and Honor died. Sort of like how aluminum has some traits in itself that interacts with allomancy, but you don't have to be an allomancer to use it (in that specific way). In all the time Rosharan's have had, perhaps they've figured out enough to make fabrials, and replicate some of the effects of Surges?
  20. Oooo, thanks, I hadn't seen that yes. Yeah, the evidence is starting to pile up. Do we have any suspicion which Order he is? On some level I'm a bit sad. Is anyone in this book going to be allowed to be interesting without being magic?
  21. "I officially hate everyone." "How does one formalize that?" "Darkness helped me find the paperwork."
  22. I'm not sold on the "Renarin is a Surgebinder" thing, though his reticence to take up a Shardblade has shaken my disbelief. I, for one, love the mental image I get when Adolin has that Blade in his hand and gives it over. "Oh, right, this thing. Uh... want it? I mean I've already got one."
  23. I concur, but I don't think it automatically means he's got a Nahel Bond... what if bearing an Honorblade grants you the ability to see the spren associated with that particular Herald?
  24. Crazy theory. Look at the specific wording. "His Lashings interfered with the gemstones that powered Shardplate." The gemstones themselves. Who do we know who had cracked gemstones in his Shardplate? Now, this is a bit odd and confusing, so follow me down the rabbit hole, and again, remember this is largely speculative. I just came up with this idea when I saw this quote on a different thread, so I haven't thought it all the way through yet. I don't even know where to begin... We know Szeth says his Surgebinding will interfere with the gemstones of Shardplate. Yet we saw Knights Radiant many times, many of them confirmed Windrunners, Surgebind in Plate perfectly fine. I realize there are a number of alternate theories and mine is no more valid than any others, but consider this: What if the Surges granted by Honorblades interfere with the Plate gemstones, but Nahel Bond Surgebinding does not? When Dalinar caught the Chasmfiend's claw to save Elhokar, he seemed to glow, and I always assumed it was because he was Surgebinding himself... but when he did so, he was standing right by Elhokar. What if Elhokar was somehow subconsciously activating the Surged granted him by his Honorblade to aid the man saving his life... and in doing so, accidentally (and unawaredly[that's not a word]) cracked eight of the gems in his own Shardplate? Just one man's crazy opinion.
  25. Eh... this is an interesting brainstorm, and I laud you for thinking so far outside the box. I'm certainly not sold on it as a whole, but I'm going to think about it more. My one question: So he kills all the spearmen, because he thinks they MIGHT also be Surgebinders simply by proximity to Kaladin... yet he lets Kaladin, the one person he really suspects of being a Surgebinder, live? Seems like a hole in the logic. You're right, and I'm sorry. I sometimes let my emotions get away from me when I've been insulted. I appreciate your gently reminder, and I will try hard to keep my cool. As someone pointed out, actually no, Amaram never offered him the Shards. He asked, "Why are you giving them up," he never said, "Here they are, take them." Hope that helps the scene add up for you.
