  1. I'm of two minds about this. On one hand, Vasher killed the woman he loved to prevent more Nightbloods being created. On the other, he did decide to entrust Vivenna with the secret to creating a third generation shardblade such as Nightblood so I could see them cooperating to make an ideal fourth generation shardblade. It's certainly plausible. We know that Nightblood is pretty much a prequel to Way of Kings so the timeline with Vasher chasing Yesteel to Roshar and deciding to stay would definitely fit. The thing which I'm most interested to see in this scenario is if Yesteel has figured out how to awaken with Stormlight. We know that hacking the magic systems is possible but Vasher hasn't figured it out despite his efforts. Yesteel seems like the more brilliant of the two from a scholarly perspective from what we learned in Warbreaker so it is possible that he figured it out and fled to Roshar to give himself a tactical advantage as the highstorms are invested to the hilt as Vasher says.
  2. Precisely. A single named attribute does not completely reflect the Shardic Intent as the Intent of a shard can be quite broad and can also experience some slight influence by the will of the Vessel. A shard such as Autonomy may believe in freeing people of their ties to society to grant them complete autonomy of their own lives. It could also seek to spread its control from world to world, creating an autonomous hive mind where agendas are unanimous. I feel like one of the primary messages Brandon is telling us with the Shards is that divine attributes when pushed to their extreme and isolated from the attributes which give it context can be a very bad thing.
  3. Welcome to the Shard, I see you've already made yourself comfortable Some questions to ponder, if you wish. If you could have access to a single Cosmere magic system what would it be and why? If you got $1000 for every IQ point lost, would you take the offer and if so how many times? Would you rather instantly access every book Brandon will ever write, with the catch that you cannot spoil or sell the books, or receive $30,000 upfront. Would you accept Taravangian's dumb/smart day situation if on your genius days (peak human IQ on Earth) you had a permanent sensation of a popcorn kernel stuck in your throat? Would you rather be of the sixth heightening or have any Honorblade of your choice?
  4. Hopefully technology has advanced to the point where humans can get cybernetic upgrades Then all of the WoB's ever uttered can be stored in an internal hard drive for perfect recollection. I'd call my hard drive a coppermind of course.
  5. I found this odd as well. As you said above, it had to be Marsh as Ruin's main pawn from a narrative perspective as Marsh would then be in a position to resist Ruin at that one key moment. I guess Ruin's in world logic might have been to demoralise Vin and co. as they watch their former friend become their greatest foe. Ruin did enjoy toying with people and he probably felt so confident in his control over Marsh that he neglected the strength of Marsh's resolve. I think the feruchemical Atium spikes were made in between Final Empire and Well of Ascension by the Inquisitors that attacked the Synod (filled with Feruchemist's to harvest from) under Ruin's influence. Marsh was not fully under Ruin's control at this stage and due to this as well as the decrease in potency of hemallurgic spikes over time, the Inquisitors that attacked the Synod would have been granted the spikes ahead of Marsh. Edit: @MountainKing you copy and paste the url of the separate post you want to quote. Also, you can quote fragments of someone's post by highlighting the specific text and clicking 'quote this'
  6. When you get consistent, high quality books and still wait impatiently for the next book while poor Rothfuss and Martin fans wonder if they will ever get the next book.
  7. When we saw the Nightwatcher in OB she seemed almost childish. She has quite a shallow understanding of human nature and can be seen to grow visibly frustrated when she doesn't understand Dalinar's more complex request. My theory is that Cultivation is trying to,well, cultivate the Nightwatcher by giving it Dalinar's memories. Dalinar's painful memories might help in educating the Nightwatcher on the subject of human nature leading to increased maturity or growth, which would fit Cultivation's intent. We see the Stormfather become more sympathetic towards the Radiants involved in the Recreance through his bond with Dalinar so there is some textual precedent for godspren maturing somewhat.
  8. Why would Cultivation not join Honor on Roshar? Well we know that Honor and Cultivation were romantically involved so maybe Tanavast and Cultivation's vessel were also romantically involved. If this were the case then there could be a theoretical parallel universe where someone other than Tanavast ascended to become Honor causing Cultivation to roam around solo for a while instead of settling down with Honor. Then, if Cultivation were to come across Harmony in these circumstances she might be inclined to intervene due to her intent as she is all about growth and change and the paradise Harmony created inhibits this process of growth and change. You even see this when Harmony rants at Wax telling him he made things too easy for humanity and that they should have invented radios by now.
  9. I do think things were not all rosy between Honor and Cultivation as Honor slipped into insanity. However, the single biggest piece of evidence against the Ghostbloods being agents of Cultivation is that Cultivation is very much opposed to Odium while the Ghostbloods are sitting on the fence with their whole'We must not let either side gain dominance yet' rhetoric.
  10. Yeah that's my bad about Cultivation's intent. She might feel that Scadrians are incapable of true growth when Harmony gives everything to them on a platter so she might be opposed to the idea of Harmony. There's also the WoB that her Intent is complementary to Ruin... She is definitely tangled up in Roshar and is Invested there in more than one sense. Considering 'Trell' is attacking Scadrial 15 years after the events in Stormlight 5 (also roughly at the start of Stormlight 6) there isn't a realistic future where Cultivation completely abandons Roshar and decides to make Scadrial her new dominion. In a parallel Cosmere where Cultivation is not on Roshar she would actually be a strong candidate for Trell.
  11. Ninja-ing you is probably my greatest achievement so far on these forums Nah we know for certain that the spike came from the dead inquisitors in Luthadel, not Sazed. zas678 Why on earth does Marsh have a Feruchemical atium spike? You've said that Ironeyes is in fact Marsh. Did Ruin spike someone for him? Or did Sazed grant him the power? Brandon Sanderson Dead inquisitors Vin killed. Some were granted the spike for reasons I haven't spoken of yet.
  12. I made a post discussing this very thing just a few days ago Very short story: I think Ruin intended on destroying as many worlds as he could which would take a very long time. His inquisitors act as his ground forces and would need to live very long lives to turn Ruin's plan into a reality.
  13. Brandon confirms that Trellium is from a shard that we know and the nine shards that were known at the time (this is in the WoB footnote) were as follows; Devotion Dominion Preservation Ruin Honor Cultivation Odium Endowment Autononomy Devotion, Dominion and Honor are all splintered. Endowment believes strongly in non-interference and attacking Scadrial would be against her intent. Cultivation is in the Roshar system and attacking Scadrial would be against her intent. Preservation and Ruin have become Harmony so that's not an option for obvious reasons. That leaves only Odium and Autonomy. Odium is scared of Harmony according to Brandon so a head on confrontation just 15 years after the events in the first half of Stormlight Archive seems a little bit far fetched. I doubt Odium escapes the Roshar system while splintering Cultivation in the first five books of Stomlight which leaves Autonomy as the only remaining option.
  14. A-bronze works similarly to white sand in that it detects kinetic investiture. I'd imagine the creation of a hemallurgic spike would fall under the bracket of kinetic investiture and if this were the case then A-bronze could detect the creation of a hemallurgic spike. Note: We see Wit use A-bronze in WoR which detects Shallan's lightweaving so we know that A-bronze picks up on kinetic investiture from any Cosmere magic system. The nature of hemallurgy in stapling someone's soul onto yours while the investiture 'leaks' out of the spike would appear to be kinetic.
  15. In your position I'd probably next read Warbreaker, Elantris and Emperors Soul . As @Voidus said above, if you're feeling particularly adventurous you could always start The Stormlight Archive next, beginning with Way of Kings. It's pretty heavy on the world building and you might enjoy it more if you are more familiar with Brandon's writing. When you start Mistborn Era 2 next then be sure to read Bands of Mourning before Secret History. Most importantly, enjoy the wild ride
  16. I'm out of rep to give but know that I couldn't agree more that Zane is a horrible character. There are well written dislkeable characters... and then there's Zane off in the corner, skulking about and taking up valuable 'screen time'. Also, Stick jokes have become far too overused. I guess this is what happens when fans are waiting years for the next book.
  17. Welcome to the Shard @Jay_moore49! Just some quick questions: What is your favourite magic system? Which secret society is the most interesting?
  18. And if you have read other cosmere works:
  19. Yeah, I agree. I was thinking more that the higher burn rate enabled by duralumin combined with the constant Atium supply would allow continuous near instantaneous compounding as without duralumin the compounding will occur at a fixed burn rate which will limit the ability to store age in the long run I'm pretty sure Brandon has said that it is possible to revert to a foetal stage by over tapping Atium metalminds. I'll have to try and find the WoB... Edit: Found a relevant WoB Questioner What happens if you burn duralumin while Compounding? Brandon Sanderson Duralumin while Compounding. So, what duralumin does is it burns out of all of your metal in one burst. So it doesn't necessarily gain you power, it makes it all happen at the same time. The same thing would happen. Questioner Could you turn into a baby? Brandon Sanderson Oh, you could totally turn into a baby. That is within the power of using that, doing <health wrong>, yeah you could totally... You'd be really dangerous. Questioner But it wouldn't really do much? Brandon Sanderson Oh it would have explosive... it does things really fast. That's what it does. Yes you could achieve very powerful sudden effects through that. It'd be scary. Controlling it can be dangerous, regardless of which metal you use.
  20. Good point, I forgot about the artificial limit of metalmind capacity based on its size. I wonder if some of the issues you listed above could be circumvented by burning the Atium metalminds with duralumin. The rate at which you could compound would increase exponentially.
  21. This is exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't matter how inefficient the process of compounding Atium becomes because it's such a small drop in the bucket when looking at the power level of a shard. Yeah, the kind of timeframe in which the Atium compounding process would become so inefficient that the costs are greater than the benefits (for Ruin) is likely after the heat death of the Universe. Compounding a moderate amount of Atium is incredibly potent as @Calderis pointed out above. Now imagine the possibilities with an endless supply of Atium...
  22. 1. If you could get $1000 for every IQ point lost, would you do it and if so how many times? 2. Would you rather have leg sized fingers or finger sized legs? 3. Would you rather be able to burn a minute worth of Atium every week or be a Copper Ferring? Why did you choose in this way? 4. Would you rather have every movie you watch slowly turn into Shrek or every song you listen to turn into Allstar by Smashmouth? 5. Would you rather have immediate access to every book Brandon will ever write or $50,000 (you can't spoil or sell the books)? 6. Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or depression? 7. What order of the Knights Radiant would you belong to and why? 8. Would you rather be fluent in every language ever conceived, including fictional languages, or gain mastery of a single musical instrument? 9. Would you accept Taravangian's smart/dumb day situation if the bane was that on above average days you feel like a popcorn kernel is stuck in your throat? (Anyone can feel free to answer these)
  23. I write these words on whiteboards for anything not set on a sleek surface designed for educational purposes cannot be trusted.
  24. Order type: Survivor Spren: Hathsin Spren; Bond to individuals with traits similar to The Survivor of Hathsin Ideals: 1.
